NERW on WMEX's return date and programming

Eli,

After the effort and time you put into tracking and documenting the reach of WMEX's 100-watt night-time signal, I would suspect Ed Perry owes you some compensation.

As someone who must supplant my income by being a part-time Uber driver, I was being paid while doing some of that "research".

(During the pandemic, I have only been doing take-out food deliveries with Uber using the "UberEats" service, I became afraid to take people in my car in mid-March. I figure that taking food, with all the precautions, is somewhat safer, but even only doing food deliveries I've driven though all those areas and more).

Eli,

Thank you for the report, and kudos to you adjusting in these tough times.

Sister station...
WBMS 1460 Brockton MA and its 101.1 FM translator begin/resume local programming tomorrow a la WMEX--local oldies DJs by day such as Lindsy Parker

WMEX is now running programming called MeTV FM.

It's the MeTV oldies/classic hits radio channel. WMEX is running it when they don't have live DJ's. It started last Monday night at 6 PM.

It's running on WMEX weekday nights after 6 PM after Larry Justice's live weekday mid-day shows, and Joe McMillan's live weekday afternoon shows, and weekend afternoons and nights after Jimmy Jay's live weekend morning shows.

I thought WMEX might have kept simulcasting Ron Dwyer's WATD weekend afternoon oldies shows, and the WATD Saturday evening oldies shows, but I guess not.

Hopefully they're getting some compensation for it. Typically MeTV offers free advertising for the radio on their TV channel.

Weigel doesn't own a TV in the Boston area, but I imagine some of the cable companies carry MeTV.

There are plugs for the TV network on the radio broadcast.

In addition to on-air Ch. 5.2 in Boston, MeTV is also on 10.2 from Providence.

Just switched back to WMEX, and it is now simulcasting Ron Dwyer's WATD Saturday afternoon oldies show. It had been broadcasting the MeTV Radio oldies channel earlier this afternoon.

This is their first week with the MeTV feed, guess they're still working out the schedule, but Dwyer's oldies show is great and the WMEX day signal is steadier up here than WATD's, so I'm glad it's being simulcast again.

And that promo should have an overlay of the WMEX logo and call letters.

It should, but the promo I saw on the TV channel was national, not local, and was just a promo mentioning the national radio network without mentioning any specific affiliate radio station.

I was told that WMEX will be working more local identification (their own promos, jingles, etc...) into available slots in the automation that runs the network feed on the station. Maybe they can also supply some identifying television promos to run in local avails to Ch. 5.2.

It's very simple. Tell Ed Perry to speak with his MeTV FM rep, whoever he dealt with to get the service, and they'll tell him what's involved. Otherwise he's giving away his air signal for free.

They’ll get to it. It’s a small staff dealing with many things right now, having just put two stations (that they rebuilt) on the air within the past two months. I was told it’s on the agenda.

Just F.Y.I. MeTV runs a satellite broadcast across the country, most notably in the midwest. In Chicago, they literally broadcast on 87.7 FM, the old analog frequency for channel 6. They actually bring in some fairly decent radio ratings there!

a "FrankenRadio" on 87.76, which the FCC has said have to be off the air soon.

It is a analog LPTV station with minimal visual content, that some FM radios can pick up the audio of

They can not operate as a radio station, they are exploiting a loophole allowing analog LPTV to operate in a digital world

It is just a coincidence that Analog TV used frequency modulation for sound transmission ( and AM for Video and phase modulation for color information... color burst anyone? !) and Channel 6 Analog TV audio could be detected by a FM radio just under the very bottom of the band at 88Mhz

7/13/2021 is the last day the analog Channel 6 stations can be on the air

good riddance to them

Unfortunately , if not replaced by an ATSC signal, It probably won't take long before pirates take over the frequency.
