Never talk smack about the Simpsons

Dude, I don't dispute YOUR experience with them. But MY experience with them has been less than desireable. I mentioned in my post that Simpson is a nice feller...IF you don't work for him... The only person I can say would be worse than to work for than Simpson was the old Bob Stevens of the ill-fated "97KYN" fame in NW PA.

Cary is good at remembering names & and schmoozing. He schmoozes better than the best. He also is proficient at doublespeak and conspiracy theories. I have had personal encounters where Cary made no attempt to be authentic with me, be a man, and resolve some unfounded assumption he had made against me. It borderlined on being antagonistic.

I'm tickled pink you have such a wonderful, warm, fuzzy relationship with Cary. I just wish I had been one of them.<P ID="signature">______________

Well let's just ask the question then...my screen name has been the same forever and I proudly tell people who I am (although I am quite prepared for you to back that one up by saying that's because of my ego)

How many screen names have you had? How many times have you had to change them because people began reacting negatively to your posts because they said you never had anything nice to say at all? We try and post some discussion or criticism or opinions on this site and all you can fire back with is that I am making this a not so nice to be place because I am back! Oh comeon....grow up a little. I am quite frankly sick to death of your negativity as are many of the people on this forum. I get emails from them asking me what is your beef?

Do you suppose for a little bit maybe you could join the rest of us and try to talk about the business instead of the people you feel the need to bash?

Sure there are people on this board who tell me they disagree with me at times. I have even been told on occasion I am totally full of it and that's fine by me too. You wanna take that stance, be my guest...you won't be the first OR the last...but let's all try and be adult and get off the human bashing...The Simpsons...Me...the tooth fairy...WHOEVER...Even I don't do that...I may say I do not like Forever Broadcasting, or how I perceive them...but I never said a word about Carol, Kirby or any of the people behind the company. I don't even know them so its not my place. Unless you are in my circle of friends, you don't know me either...so a little respect and decency would be appreciated!

Yes, the Simpsons made millions off of me.

You are so da*n blind you couldn't see the truth if it hit you upside the head like a tube sock filled with wood screws. "Thanks Skip Khroncke" for that line.

As I said in my post, I didn't deserve more than what I was paid. I did get experience that has paid off when I moved to larger markets.

Again, if you have any nads, identify yourself KeystoneJock.

I do everytime.

Re: Math-impaired, but cute!

Okay, so you didn't deserve more than minimum-wage at that time. Why? Because you weren't any good, right? All I said that started all this commotion was that it wasn't good radio. Radio stations paying minimum wage tend not to be very good. Why is that such a difficult concept to grasp?

And why is it so hard to see that AMN has made millions doing it this way?

If you really need guidance on this stuff, just sit down with a 6-pack and a calculator and multiply the average number of spots per hour by the average estimated rate (ask the sales staff). Now multiply that by 6 days per week (Sunday billing is always minimal), then multiply that by 52 weeks. That'll give you a rough estimate of total revenue. Now look around and count the employees and take a guess at how much they make, add it all up and multiply that number by two. That'll give you a rough estimate of total expenses. Now subtract the expenses from the revenue, and that's your PROFIT. Rough, yeah, but fairly accurate. Now do it for each of their stations. How many? A dozen?

Again, your naivete is charming. Some of us go to school for this stuff ("business administration") and it helps us to be better negotiators as employees. Even as jocks.

> Again, if you have any nads, identify yourself KeystoneJock. I do everytime.

Nads got nothing to do with it. There's a difference between personal email and industry board posting. This is an industry board. Anonymity allows us all to discuss issues relating to the radio industry without fear of reprisal or embarrassment. If we have questions, we can ask them. If we have comments we can make them. It allows everyone to share information and insights that may be valuable. It allows us to learn.

A bunch of you on this board seem to have turned it into a personal email swap among friends. And since you are among friends, you all know each other anyway. I'm just here for the radio stuff.

So, have things changed?

> Unless things have changed within the last three years, if
> you like $5.15 an hour with zero benefits, the Simpson sweat
> shop is the place to be!

Well, have they? Posters have blasted me for suggesting that "competitive" AT wages in State College should be in the $30,000+ range, but have shared that "noncompetitive" jocks are getting $17K-$20K. Is AMN up to the "noncompetitive" range, yet? And health insurance should be a given, shouldn't it? Could it possibly be true that they're not even offering health coverage to their employees?

You know this whole post is a waste of time. Why are we all bickering back and forth? Look if you worked for Cary in the past and got burned, you probably deserved it. Cary is a great guy, 50 years and still going, I think that has a lot to say in and of itself. I walked in the door of WGMR in the late 90's and didn't know a thing. In one book I tied evenings with the Jock at WBHV at the time. I didn't go to Cary and Ted for a raise. Why? I had something from them that was more important than money and that was respect. Cary and Ted took the time to help me evolve into the jock that I am today. As I try to do with my jocks. So lets just end this now and say if you have a problem with Cary or Ted keep it to yourself. Why air dairty laundry, espically if you have no clue what the hell you are talking about? As for the rest of you on this board that feel it is mature to go around bashing other people to make yourself feel better wether it be ego or whatever. Just shut up. Everytime I get on here there is some sort of pissing match going on. It is getting really stupid. Lets talk about what can be improved at other stations or the stations we work for in a peaceful manner. If you can't play nice don't play at all. Look at the other boards and tell me if you see anybody bashing other people. NO! You know why? Cause they are mature, So GROW UP!!!!!

I am soooooo sick of these pesonal slams on The Simpsons...on me...on whoever. What happened to the gold old days when we all just consipred to go beat up Mr. Froggy at his next remote appearance?

You say you don't know me. Well you've been rather negative ABOUT ME for someone who does not even know me. Let's look back at a few of my favorite fork tongued comments you managed to post about someone you don't know. I just wanted to point them out in case you have forgotten.

>Yes, but WE aren't having any fun now that you're back. That's just my own opinion. Please feel free to agree to disagree with me Hitman.

>How did I know it would be Steve Hilton that would make this kind of comment?

>I can get behind Harlow on this one but you? Nah...you flip sides back and forth too much based on who will find favor with your statements because you can't take being challenged.

Its interesting how in a post when I say I believe I know who you are...that you dropped a different handle or at least stopped using it for a while and now I am mistaken....suddenly I do not have a right to say anything about you because I do not know you and you do not know me.

For someone who does not know me, look at your own words. You seem to have a bit of a problem with someone you don't even know wouldn't you say? If someone does not like my stance, whatever... but to totally diss me when I back up something Harlow already said with my own 2 cents and I get dissed because ITS ME. Then you try and wiggle out of the things you said by saying I must have you confused with someone else and that you don't know me and I don't know you??? Well unless someone has hijacked your name or something you seem to have quite a problem with a guy you don't know? Very interesting.

Anyway, if I was mistaken about who you really are, I apoligize. I will say though that their writing style and yours are very similar. So much so, its uncanny. But you say I had it wrong so maybe I did. I'd rather be wrong anyway because that person knows I sent them an email about something out of kindness and genuine concern and shortly afterward, that same person told someone I know a few very unkind things about me as if the message I sent them was mean and hateful when instead all I wanted to do was make sure they were on their toes rerarding something that may be coming up for them. I won't discuss the messages conveyed back and forth between them and me or between them and my friend out of respect for the people involved...but if they read this post they know who they are. Your writing sounded an awful lot like theirs and well...I just wanted to try and get to the bottom as to what in the world they had against me...but if you are not them, I guess that message falls on deaf ears. All the more then, if you are not them...then I really DO NOT know you..so a little respect for me please. I try and show the same. Read back through ALL my posts...I may insult companies or practices...I don't think I ever attacked a specific person on this forum ever with exception to it being 100% tongue in cheek in which case that is obvious.

If your worry is about personal slams then you won't need to worry about one on this statement. I agree with you just like I agreed with Harlow about it.

No, I don't know you. I know OF you. I know you work on the new G101. Other than that, nothing, except what you post here.

> Yes, but WE aren't having any fun now that you're back.

You call this bashing? I call it a dig. A harmless dig. Here's what I think a bash might be like: "Mr. Hilton, you're an ass" (that was just an example, I'm NOT calling you an ass). Personally, I have no idea if you're an ass.

> >How did I know it would be Steve Hilton that would make
> this kind of comment?

After lurking and reading long enough, I've been able to pick up on your patterns. I can sometimes figure out how people are going to comment on a topic. Your style of commentary is unique and happens to stand out. In a way, I'd take it as a compliment.

> I can get behind Harlow on this one but you? Nah...you flip
> sides back and forth too much based on who will find favor

Same thought as above. You have a unique style of response. You do flip back and forth. When there is a comment that doesn't sit in your favor, you flip-flop. I can't figure out what you really think and what is just defensiveness.

> Its interesting how in a post when I say I believe I know

Well, it's the only handle I have. Since my name is Victoria and I wear Victoria's Secret bras (sorry for TMI), it seemed catchy.

> For someone who does not know me, look at your own words.
> You seem to have a bit of a problem with someone you don't

I don't have any problem with you personally. I'm merely reacting to your posts. It seems you may be overly sensitive. I thought being in radio required a thick skin.

Can't do anything about that. Hopefully, the person you refer to is somewhat articulate.

I'm afraid you have me confused with an entirely different human. Sorry. I've never received and email from you or anyone else on this board. And it would be awfully difficult to say anything, mean or otherwise to anyone else because I don't KNOW you.

One thing I picked up on in your paragraph: you say you emailed someone to give them information you thought would be helpful to them. Seems like a nice thing to do. The problem it appears is with the other third party. If you did write someone a kind email and then you found out from a third party that the person turned around and said something to someone else, like there was a lack of thankfulness, then why not just ask the person you wrote to if what you heard was true? Just an observation of the beaten path there for you.

> I try and show the same. Read back through ALL my posts...I

Alright...perhaps you aren't who I thought you were and if not like I said...SORRY...Yep...I think we can both move forward from here all the same.

And you asked me why I would not just ask that person what the issue is. Well, I don't see the reason...I did not do ANYTHING to them...we had some good conversations about the biz (even if we did not agree all the time) and then the next thing you know...I hear that I am called more or less a liability. I won't go into the exact text...but it was...well uncalled for so if they read this message...don't know what's up...but I will think twice before I even try and be helpful and kind again if that's the reaction I get.

I don't get the flip-flopping thing though. I will admit when I am wrong if someone brings up something that makes me think a little...but Hilary Clinton I am not...This Boy tends to make up his mind and KEEP IT! Just ask those who do know me.

By the way...do you listen??? Comments appreciated about the station as a whole.

Mr. Keystone Jockey
You sound very learned in the ways of radio industry. I would like to ask you to be a favor for me.
I am looking for a mentor in radio and you seem to be the smartest guy on the board. You do amazing multiplication. Did you learn of this in “business administration” (I have started to put “quote marks” around things and it makes me sound smarter. You are already a “mentor” to me!) My cousin has a “business administration” degree and it has helped him as a negotiator. No. Wait. He is a WalMart check out boy. But often negotiates between paper and plastic.
My last job in the industry did not work out to well I have to tell you. I was the WOWWoodchuck mascot. I passed out in the parking lot during a remote at the car show. Have you ever experienced heat exhaustion. You don’t really get sleepy as the name suggests. So misleading. I woke to hundreds of kids chanting, “Look! Look ! The Woodchuck is drunk! The Woodchuck is drunk!” Let me tell you, Mr. Jock, I learned it is not professional to beat a child with a Woodchuck costume head. So I have that going for me.
Anyway I am tired of making minimum wage and being spat at by little children. I’m sure you know the feeling.
My friend, the Gooch, says he’s afraid I will turn into a soulless radio suit wannabe, who will only help erode a once creative force into the bland corporate machine it has become, one that will soon cease as a functional medium.
But, hey, 30 large a year. Screw the Gooch. We can work at WalMart anyway. You know, “business administration.”
Anyway, You totally “rock,” my friend!

Re: Math-impaired, but cute!

Dear Mr. Hoo:

Oh, you don't want me to ment you. You'd be courting the possibility of ending up like me, pissing away your career on industry boards, swapping lies with others of our ilk. And this ilk is bad enough already! Mascotry is a wonderful craft. Hope it helps to know that there are those out there in Radioland who really, truly think you're enjoying yourself sweating like a (fill in the blank) in your costume head while prancing around a car lot on a hundred degree Saturday. Hooray For Hollywood! Or Port Matilda! Ain't showbiz GREAT!!!?

KJ

PS: WOWW was a great station, wasn't it? It always had that, er, uh "Wow" factor.
