New 10PM show on KTVK

Carey Pena announced on Facebook that KTVK is launching a new show next month which will air at 10PM. Carey has been signed as one host and she said a new male host will join her. No other news on what type of show it will be.

Beverly Kidd will continue to anchor the News at Nine.

Will Cary still anchor the weekend late news too?

Must not have been enough work on "3 On Your Side" to keep her busy.

WOW, how many new shows are being rolled out? Who wants to bet that they are basically going to be various clones of Now@9? (get your iPads ready!).

I bet Steve Ryan will anchor both Saturday and Sunday. He seems to be an enthusiastic guy.

No, this isn't like that. If they are hiring a new male anchor, please make said male anchor your anchor for GEAZ and 9pm too. Channel 3 has been doing a good job for a while now...it's just that we like 10's news team better.

Now I'm concerned about their Varsity Zone high school sports show, which has only run for two years. Will it stay? move to 10:30? be banished altogether?

A male anchor would really help the atmosphere conveyed by their newscasts. A two-anchor format brings more life to the program.

I actually don't mind 3TV's lower key approach. 10's graphics are ridiculously distracting!

Just because 10 and 12 are the most watched newscasts doesn't mean everybody has to like them. I prefer 3 over 10, and 15 or 5 over 12.

As for "Now@9," will it be supplanted by "Right This Minute" (the national production from the old 3TV team that the Scripps group has partnered with)? There's no way they're going to pull "Sonoran Living," since they make money off the paid segments there.

LOL :D

Love the "Weird Building Name@4"!

It's too bad someone couldn't put a few resources covering the news of Northern Arizona. In theory, the Arizona Nightly News on 12 would be an hour-long newscast covering the news of Arizona (from the Valley northward). 12 basically lied to us when they shut down 2 News in Flagstaff. They said that they would have two reporters based in Flagstaff. AFAIK, they only had one and not sure if that one still exists.

Suggestion: How about on Thursday nights at 6:30 (could even be made nightly if successful) on channel 3, there'd a weekly report on Northern Arizona? I think personally it'd be a good news investment with ratings guaranteed because there's no competitor. For format, you could probably focus in on a few "zone areas": Flagstaff, Kingman, Prescott, the White Mountains, and/or the Navajo Nation. There'd be additional content online.

In most areas, the papers are really the only local news source. NAN ("Northern Arizona News") could probably have some local sports and a couple reporters who provide coverage for the Varsity Zone show.

Another potential nickname for 3TV's new newscast: Twitter@10 :D

And let me modify 12's new show: Weird Building Name LIVE@4 :D

Let's keep going:

Facebook@5

MySpace@Midnight (is that still around?)

We need a name for Google+

They could even start it as a weekly "features" (positive news) show, anchored by Scott Light and Tram Mai. It could be named "R66 Live" (shorthand for Route 66, since 12 likes weird abbreviations). Sorry, I just couldn't resist... :D

I am in the middle of watching this new 10 pm show and I do not know what to make of it. It just doesn't stand out. The few promos I saw, I was expecting something different, something more. This to me is a major let down. Part of my problem, expectations too high. 3TV must have wanted to jump back into the 10 p.m. game. I remember the 10 p.m. newscast when I first moved here, I also remember the 8 p.m. newscast they used to have as well. Oh well, back to Channel 10.

Charlie.

I, too, watched the debut of 3TV News at 10. I kept thinking "what's so different about this?". It came across as an refreshed/updated version of 3TV News at 9 with two anchors. I kept waiting for the social media elements. Besides Carey's gesture at a screen with Facebook on it, a couple mentions of social media, and a question from Facebook for the TSA, there was no fresh social media content.

Honestly, I wonder if this is a way to introduce Fields Moseley to the Phoenix audience and eventually making him the main co-anchor at KTVK. GEAZ and 3TV News at 9 could use solid co-anchors and a general updating/refreshing.

The new newscast is certainly no "Twitter@10", not even close!
