NEW AM STATION!

...and this will last how long?

The last time 1540 had a viable format, Ronald Reagan was still President. Same can be said for 1400. Sad. This makes me think back to the days prior to Ike, when Lyda Ann Thomas came on the air and said "We have to rely on Houston for NWS weather updates, as the Island has no local radio service." By my last count Galveston has 3 stations licensed to it (if you count KHCB, which is supposedly leaving Galveston for the greener pastures of League City) and the MAYOR of the COL has no idea the 3 stations even exist?!? Thanks for the info regarding KGBC. Please also inform us when they flip it again next month.

You make a good point. It's about fifty miles southeast of downtown Houston and Galveston has two AM's, one full-power FM and two full-power TV stations licensed to it, none of which have a local presence. It's no wonder Ms. Thomas made that statement. Oh, and for the record KGBC is still listed in the FCC database as "licensed and silent."
