New Calls/Format For 105.5 Cape May Court House?

I see that Equity has changed the call letters in 105.5 in Cape May Court House from WGBZ to WSNQ.....Also all mentionings of 105.5 on 99.3's website has been removed (there used to be a small 105.5 in their logo).......Can we see a format change coming soon?

Don't get excited, as Equity changed calls on 93.1 from WDTH to WEZW last year (?). Sent these boards into a tizzy wondering if they would break from "The Touch". To date, nothing.

Yes, you are correct....I took 93.1 into consideration when I posted (93.1 became WEZW in Sept 2006)......Again Equity did take 105.5 off the 99.3's logo which might be sign that a change might come......So a format change might be a possibility but not set in stone like you said.

99.3 The Buzz comes in well even in the southernmost part of Cape May. On paper, it doesn't look like it should come in strong there, but because it's near the water, the everpresent tropo makes it stronger than it should be.

Same with WAYV, which is why I have always questioned the feasibility of the 102.3 repeater. I believe the same goes for 96.1 WTTH. Personally, I would love to hear WCMC on FM.

On the radio-locator coverage maps, southern Cape May is in the 40 dBu contours of the respective stations. A relay made sense on paper. If there were no water, the relays would be useful. The marine layer over the ocean allows for stronger reception. You can hear WFPG and WAYV every day on the south shore of Long Island.

It would seem Equity might be preparing to spin off some of their stations. Would be a nice move for an owner to sewwp up these properties to give Coastal a run for their (advertising) dollars in Cape May County by taking these signals local (again).

What is half of nothing?
Coastal is supposedly in deep debt.

Zackster, you're quite the jokester.

Nick, the marine layer, or "salt water path" affects AM & SW transmission, not FM. However, the lack of buildings and flat coastland may aid in FM reception as there's nothing to impede the signal. Also, the coast encourages troposheric "channeling" of FM & VHF TV. In the BC days (Before Cable) we could watch NYC television with a high-gain antenna, tower, amplifier and rotor when conditions were right.

I'll keep my thoughts of repeating a full Class B signal just 30 miles away.

If your competition is WSJO and WSJQ, why not grab WSNQ (which happens to be right between 104.9 and 106.7)? Not that anyone listening to The Buzz on 105.5 would ever write down WSNQ if someone asks.

For those playing the home game:
104.9 WSJO
105.5 WSNQ
106.7 WSJQ

Zack is right..During a brief stint at that broadcast joke, every two weeks the staff would race to the bank to get their payroll check cashed before the account was emptied. The management style is based on the broadway play "The Producers". Half of the advertising is trade. Coastal is a joke to the other broadcasters in the Cape/Atlantic market, EVEn to Gary Fisher and Equity. But back on tread, Equity has been bouncing call and signals for awhile now. I doubt they will give up anything in Cape May County.

Isn't the Buzz #1? why mess with that?

The big thing would be taking the stations back to local ownership, and thus serving the community that they serve, instead of just being a relay of an Atlantic county signal. In that case. The Buzz would survive, but maybe with a different name/branding. But, it would be focused on Cape May County. Whatever the name, it will still be heard booming from all T-shirt shops on the Wildwood boardwalk.

I'm sorry i know that A C needed a hip hop r and b station bad but does anyone else miss the all dance BUZZ that was gaining steam and ratings in the book right before equity bought it? I wish one of the rockers would have flipped instead...the beach needs a dance station...remember BOSS97???It had a small cult following...People from South Jersey would try to tune it in and listen to it in static...Then the BUZZ was finally getting it right(despite a horrid sindicated morning show,no midday host, a really bad drive time host (sorry Ted Noah but you did have a great taste in music as a programer)...they were making stides as a local fun station. I was just on the Ocean City boardwalk. One store had the Shark on,one had WAYV on, one Had FPG on.12 had Serius radio on with there dance station on...(i counted because I got curious after I entered the 4th different store with dance on).Someone should jump on this opportunity to fill a major void down the shore.Didn't a couple of stations just change ownership.........................

Yeah, a couple stations changed ownership. But they would be foolish to put dance on one of the signals (altho some might make the argument that The Ace could use a new direction). Also, I'd have to say that, since Equity took over and made that modification to Rhythmic CHR, they are rather successful. if the original Buzz was doing good as a "danse stayshun", I'd think they'd still be doing it that way and someone else would have flipped RCHR.

I said they were sucessful. You also can leave your "stayshun" crap in your head. It was successful and furthermore look how long it took A C to add a Hip Hop station because"it wouldn't work". I know these new owners aren't bringing a dance station in. I was just writing about what the shore could use because of the sirius dance boardwalk thing not to mention that A C has a huge club industry that is heavy dance....but let me guess Rob if radio isn't doing it now it can't be profitable right?? explain all the dance songs that are getting adds along with the hip hop that is sampling house and club and even established r and b singers like Neyo and Chris Brown have dance leaning songs out right now....Think out of the box a little and realize that sometimes change is good and that what can work in one market doesn't always dictate what is good in another market...let me guess are you a consultant Rob cause your negative attitude and condesending comments don't "rock"

I'm not saying a dance station would or wouldn't work at the shore, but consider this:

(1) You CAN NOT make a multi-million dollar BUSINESS decision on what 15 stores on the boardwalk have on. If you program to the $.99 stores and the $4.99 t'shirt stores, those are the advertisers you will get. Thousands of people every year attend concerts by the Ocean City Pops at the Music Pier -- should a station play their music full time?

(2) February isn't a big party month at the shore. What do you do in the winter when all of the boardwalk stores are closed and all of the boardwalk walkers have disappeared?

(3) Radio is not cool to the people partying at the night clubs at Borgata every weekend. Are you going to do a remote with roll banner duct taped to the wall and give out bumperstickers?

(4) Between WAYV, SoJo, Q107, and The Buzz, another CHR-kinda station would be a tough sell.

You've already hit the nail on the head. If you want dance music, pay $13/month for it.

Amen! I put the "danse stayshun" jab in there to emote a response. So, mission accomplished there. Again, if the Buzz were so successful as a dance station, don't you think Gary Fisher would have kept the Buzz the same? He saw a hole that many of us observers, regardless of formatic preference saw, and neatly patched up that hole. And, might I add, quite successfully.

Atlantic just bought into the all-important "money demos". The Shark has the upper demo, the Ace works in the lower echelon. This is a good flank against WZXL who, in my opinion, still is running directionless. Then, you have Kool 98.3 for the boomers who like more of the pop product. Add OND to the mix and they will have a top cluster in no time. DONT MONKEY WITH IT!!! Especially, by slapping an obscure format, with limited following, just to appease the few fans of that genre.

To instigator

On Sat. Nights I try to bring some dance to South Jersey during my mixshow on Q107.. You can't have a completely dance station cause in the winter it would be tough to pull off.. But during the week if you throw a few here and there you got it ( David Guetta , Cascada, September and ect..) ... If you ever heard 95.3 Party in Orlando in the late 90's and early 2000's they pulled it off....

Hip Hop songs now are all pushing 130 bpm and also using the 4/4 sound... Just look at (Dj Laz, Neyo, Chris Brown and ect...) there is a market for dance music...

It seems the Buzz didn't know which Direction it wanted to go for a while. Under Equity's Umbrella it went to Rhythmic to Urban and Back to Rhythmic last year. Ratings was still good the whole time though
