New CHR for DFW?

I don't see 103.7 switching because that would open up Clear Channel to put on a new AC station. Shall we say 97.1 which right now is not doing real well. I think 103.7 will stay as is.

Clear Channel did have a AC format already, that flopped. Remember "Sunny 97.1"?

Didn't 105.3 just switch to sports recently? It doesn't seem logical to blow off a station that hasn't had a chance to get its feet wet.

They're locked in with sports through (at least) the end of October (wishful thinking) as they carry the Rangers baseball games.

Good point about 97.1. And can anyone please explain to me the reasoning (or lack thereof) of one company having two rock stations that overlap? KZPS is doing a great job with classic rock while Edge is ahead of Eagle in the ratings with new rock. Why dilute the numbers for those two with another station? Granted, 97.1's numbers are low, but what they do have could be a boost for the other two stations.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought the whole point to choosing a particular format was to fill a niche. If you dissect 97.1, you could logically remove the "classic rock" because sister station KZPS is filling that hole. You could then remove the "new rock" because Edge is serving that audience. You are left with the screamer rock that Edge won't play. I know Slipnot, Pantera and Mudvayne have their fans, but they are the younger end of the demo and the same demo that led to 97.1 being flipped back in 2004.

Maybe Clear Channel would consider doing an FM talk. ::)

I still think 98.7. Cash cow or not, isn't oldies a dying format anyway?

Oldies (industry defined as 60'sa based music) is a tough sell as it is demographicall out of the salable demos for the most part. Classic hits defined as 70's based music, is an easier sale as the demos are predominantly under 55.

Why do numerous movies like Hairspray sell $150,000,000 in tickets, have an average audience age of mid twenties, and have
soundtacks based on 1960s music, yet a radio station carrying that same music is chasing an unsalable demo? Maybe it's not the music,
but the way it's presented?
