Not ever. Look for FM to go to talk-talk-talk. Look for you and your friends to go to satellite or mp3 players for music-music-music.

That said, people have been bitching about talk-talk-talk for years and as result, the radio personality or jock is almost extinct (except for talk radio and morning drive). Local personalities made radio live. Local personalities made a bunch of records into a show. Local personalities got people listening, and talking and coming out for events - and most important, buying sponsors' products. Local personalities are what we remember when we think about the AM Top 40 stations where we heard this music when it was hits, not Oldies. Problem is too many researchers and programmers pay attention to what people say.

Yeah right. Just like 8 tracks & cassettes were gonna kill music radio. Satellite radio serves a very small niche audience, and will continue to be a bit player for the forseeable future. Mp3 players are nothing more than a modern walkman. Not everyone (especially in the oldies demographic) wants to be bothered to download a library of bad-sounding mp3 files...most of us have families, jobs, lives, etc and music takes a distant back seat to these.

The trouble with nostalgia is that we only remember what we want to remember. For every Joey Reynolds, John Landecker, Real Don Steele, etc there were hundreds of copycat jocks and marginally talented hacks who thought that somehow talking a lot made them "personalities". True personalities were few & far between, even back in the "good old days". You're forgetting that we radio geeks don't listen like most listeners do. Most listeners just want the dj to shut up and play the hits. Maybe when you were 17 it was cool to see the local dj doing a remote from some used car lot or gas station grand opening, but that was then, this is now.
