NEW CONSERVATIVE TALK STATION

He appears to be well connected in the local GOP, so he likely can get some commitments from like-minded people.
For this reason, I believe a Spanish Conservative News/Talk radio station would be a successful move, far more successful than further diluting the existing English Conservative News/Talk assortment in the Houston Metropolitan Area.

In the Univision radio sale to Latino Media Network, there was opposition filed by someone in the Miami area who was concerned that this would result in the loss of a Conservative voice for the Hispanic community. According to a Radio Insight article, this potential void would be filled by Spanish News/Talk provided by Salem.

This indicates that there is definitely a market for Spanish Conservative News/Talk. Now, there is a difference between Hispanics is South Florida and Hispanics in Houston, however more than one researcher has stated that Cuban immigrants are more enlightened than Mexican and Central American immigrants. Enlightenment is construed as access to information. KYST has the potential to provide enlightenment to a traditionally-underserved population.
He can't do much worse than he had been with the previous format.
To which previous format are you referring? Are you referring to an English or Spanish language previous format?

The one he's running now until Jan 1.

Based on what we've seen from this owner, "enlightenment" is not his goal. If it was, Wendy Bell is the wrong way to go.

That's the definition of "launch." The headline says "lauch." Which, to some, would indicate that ownership of the latest right-wing talker in the market is not too sharp. Har har har. More likely, the website is outsourced and is maintained elsewhere.

I concur. As I have stated elsewhere in this thread, I believe the licensee should lauch a Spanish Conservative News/Talk radio station, and it seems that Salem has something already available for syndication. "For the Enlightened Hispanic Listener."

Not according to their website. Just Spanish Christian format.

SPANISH LANGUAGE TEACHING AND TALK - RADIO LUZ
Salem Espanol produces Hispanic Christian radio with excellence in markets across the country. Our goal is to reach the rapidly growing Hispanic community through quality Christian and family themed content.

They may have been thinking about doing something like that, but it's not available now.

Unfortunately everyone, including tge majority of LPFMs, are engaged in Spanish Religious content, ti the point of over saturation. However, I don’t see anyone filling the Spanish Conservative News/Talk niche. Perhaps there are too few enlightened Hispanics to justify the investment.

That is a single station, not the Salem network. The station focuses on Cuban news, and wouldn't work in Houston.
It is owned by Salem. That is the beginning. Salem intends on making it happen. In Houston, it would cater to a different Hispanic audience.

But on what station? Any likely candidates Salem could pry a signal from? And is Salem in a financial position to do so?
As discussed in another thread, Salem wanted KLAT, but the Soros organization put a lot of money into and made the purchase. They are looking to make it nationwide. I think KQUE (formerly KFRD) would be a good place. I do not know when it will happen in Houston. I can only say that they want to do it. If they think it is viable, they will make it happen.

As I said in my post (see #149), Salem may have been thinking about it, but it's not available now. So what I said is true.

And it's pretty clear from what Matt has been saying that he wants KYST to be English.

Given the long, rich history of KLVL's service to the Hispanic community, Gabriel Arango's phone would be given a ring, too (if it were me). The signal ain't much on the west side, but is solid in the heavily Hispanic East End, Manchester, ship channel, Pasadena, San Jac, etc.

From what I've been reading, iHeart would also like to get into the Spanish news business, similar to BIN.

Obviously the issue for them is the ownership cap. But if the FCC loosens the cap, they might also be a player,
