NEW FM for sale?!

WHOA, hold up! I stand corrected. I guess I should have checked the facility IDs before I guessed the station. Sorry KVBE...

The Facility IDs show up as KADD and KADD-1 on 93.5 FM. It shows as currently off the air.

You know, by just doing a very basic "Radio-Locator" signal search around the Las Vegas valley, I don't really see any reason why this station KADD on 93.5 FM couldn't be moved to Black Mountain. The only signal even very close would be a little 80 watt translator in Beatty. Does anybody see any reason this couldn't be moved into Vegas? I'm sure somebody has already looked into this, but I like to know the reason why it's not in Vegas already.

If you could move it into Vegas, $5 million would be a great price.

All my research is not yet comlete but I believe Vegas is VERY "over radioed" and paying 5 mil in this economy, in a slumping place is out of line. Sorry.

There are MANY better ways to increase your money than LV Radio. Also, LV will be an awful place to live as the water runs dry, and gets alot more expensive on the way.

Second-adjacent to 93.1 on Potosi, third-adjacent to 94.1 on Black. The best they can do is a rimshot/booster combo.

Once again, Fybush makes me look like a dunce... I need to think before I type. What is the spacing requirement for a third-adjacent?

And who says $5 mil is out of line? Even if Vegas is Over-radioed, it's still the #33 market. I have seen Mom and Pops thrive in towns of less than 10,000 people. I think $5 mil is too much for a Rimshot/Booster. But if it were in the middle of town, I'd buy it!

Mr. J said; "And who says $5 mil is out of line? Even if Vegas is Over-radioed, it's still the #33 market."

OMG...you answered your own question. It IS VERY over radioed - and just because it's market 33....there are only so many "national buys" and surviving on porn store business advertising may wear thin. The (much larger) CHICAGO radio market has a few places losing money.

But, a fool and his money are soon parted....and Mr. J, "There is a sucker born every minute." Be my guest. I hope you have a rich daddy.

I don't believe $5 million would be out of line at all for this signal.....if it had decent market coverage. Unfortunately, when it was broadcasting in 2008, its signal in the market was extremely weak. Its coverage is worse than KJUL or KVBE. Any operator would have a hard time turning on a profit on this station if they paid $1 million for it.....yet alone 5x that amount.

We have few if any Porn stores advertising here. Lot's of strip clubs, but the general advertising we carry is no different than the stuff in other markets where I have worked, like Denver, Tucson, Modesto, Buffalo and Long Island. It bugs me when peoople think that LV is one big porn hole. This is a family town, with a couple of million people making a living, most of them not in the gaming or sex worker business. Prostitution in LV is illegal, and no more prevalent than any other big city.
We may be over radioed, but there are intellignet people buying into this market and making it work by hard work and good radio. There's always some losers, whether it's Las Vegas or Podunk.

Yep, like Al Capone in Chicago.

Good. It won't be so "family friendly" when the water troubles get in the way.

Ok, 3 points.

1. If you compare the license to KVBE, the tower coordinates are the same (same Tower). The HAAT is the same (same Antenna). And ERP is the same (same signal pattern). Unless the data I am reading is incorrect, they are essentially the same signal. You can check for yourselves.

2. I agree $5 mil for an un-built rimshot is pure stupidity. However, I said I thought $5 mil was a good price if you could move it into town. However, Fybush straightened me out on that.

3. As Bilco pionted out, there is a huge city beyond the strip. There are nearly 2 million people within range of a 100kw station in Vegas. If you can't make money off 2 million people, it's because your business model sucks. It's not the signals fault.

And what on earth if your Problem with Vegas?! I'm a Vegas native born and raised. Yeah, it's a desert! But the state depends on Las Vegas, so they are already building a pipe line from northern Nevada to get water to Las Vegas. Do you really think the whole town will just pack up and leave because it "ran out of water?" Come on... That's just dumb!! Every city and every state has issues they have to deal with.

Well, I'm retired (sold 4 radio stations, construction permits, towers full of antennas, and real estate in 1985 when things were MUCH more sane) and I really don't care, anyway.

I hope you get the rimshop for 5 mil and see how GREAT (HA!) it'll be. I don't envy anybody doing this now.

Best of luck!

From what I can tell none of the 3 stations owners have spent anything in the millions range to buy these stations or to construct them. One of the stations that broadcasts from the same antenna recently sold for less than $100,000. Radio owners always seems to be looking for suckers.

There are no stupid questions! In this case, it's 105 km for C-to-C spacing for second or third adjacency. It's 105.54 km from the KADD/KVBE site to Black Mountain.

There are over 40 stations serving the market... and radio billing is off 40% in the last couple of years. That's perhaps the worst decline of any major US market. There is around 15% unemployment, the population has shrunk by as much as 200,000, and there is no immediate recovery in sight. Oh, and Lake Mead is about 100 feet below the average level of the previous decades.

In that environment, even the best signals will be challenged to make money, and then only if they are part of significnt clusters, not stand-alones. The bad signals will likely have no chance, business model or not. Too many stations, horrible losses in market revenue and a distressed economy are elements of a very bad radio market for many years to come.
