New format in Houston???????????

How about Guitar Hero 101.

The station will feature all the songs featured on the game mixed in with the best guitar songs ever recorded. That way you can memorize the notes while you drive or stuck at work.
 
At what frequency was KQUE FM at????And what years ????? Can anybody from that era tell me??? Also a tejano station on FM would be good.
 
KQUE was 102.9. It was the sister station to 1230 KNUZ. KQUE came on in the early 1960s and was owned by Texas Coast Broadcasters, David H. Morris, President.
 
It seems like it was a CC station at one point. Whoever bought it in 1997 dropped the longtime Standards format and replaced it with Hot AC "102.9 The Planet". That lasted all of a year until it ultimately became Univision's flagship as "Estereo Latino" in May 1998.

It was actually a pretty decent station. I had some airchecks on cassettes but unfortunately, the cheap cassettes I bought weren't dependable at all.
 
Anything is possible, but I wouldn't expect it considering the failures of the last incarnation of the format.

When I first moved to Houston I remember flipping around seeing what was here and what I would program in on my car radio. KQUE played a kd lang song and then Mambo Italiano by Rosemary Clooney. I punched it in to save immediately. I miss that station a lot.
 
i would just love to see another modern alternative station come around ............we only have one!

no offense but i think we have enough spanish crap on the fm and am dial were in america i don't mind some spanish stations but i would just love to see 1 go away on FM

Well, I remember it DID do well here, but it went to the Mexican Broadcasting Group, er, Liberman. They only want to take up space with something Spanish-formatted and doesn't care about ratings. Just being cheaply ran. Like smooth jazz, jammin/movin/etc., would do very well here on a city grade signal. (I smooth jazz is floundering now, but you know what I mean.) Speaking of Movin, doesn't Maria Todd from the "good" Sam Malone Morning Show work in San Fran for CBS? 95.7 could bring her down and pick up Sam b4 he gets canned from Mix, and recreate the old morning show for Movin. This and the interesting music mix would get good ratings, or at least better ratings for 95.7.

First off, I don't know what rock have you been living under, but Houston just lost ONE spanish station. So your wish has been granted.

Spanish Crap? I have yet to see one station play "Spanish Crap". Please name the station that plays Spanish Crap because last I checked, there are Regional Mexican Stations, Spanish Adult Hits, and Spanish AC/Contemporary. No Spanish Crap.
(P.S., I know you may be tired of hearing this, but Spanish is a language, not a format, but just as you are tired of hearing this, we are ALSO tired of hearing "Spanish Station", or in your case "Spanish Crap")


Also, I think Houston would benefit more with an Active Rock, Alternative Rock is just too soft nowdays with groups like Hinder, but just my two cents.

No it wasnt...it was a Gulfstar station (company owned by Steve Hicks) when it was the Planet (was more progressive or alternative AC than HOT iirc)...and when GulfStar merged with Evergreen (Owned by brother Tom Hicks) to form AMFM (which later merged with CC), 102.9 was spun to Tichner, now Univision. CC never owned 102.9 in Houston (they do own 102.9 in Dallas but thats another story)...
 
Steve Hicks also owned many of the Beaumont stations now owned by CC, including KLVI. Sadly, it was the last time these stations were run decently.
 
My 68 year old mother wanted an ipod for Christmas, so I bought her one. Then, she went out and bought the device where she can run her old LP's and burn them to a cd (so then I can teach her to load them onto her ipod). This is a woman who doesn't have call waiting on her land line and is also the person who doesn't want voice mail on her car phone because she can't figure it out. I have a point. Here we are in one of largest cities in the US and my Mom and Dad can't hear the music they want to hear. Radio (or lack of selections) has promoted this couple to move AWAY from radio. They were the ones who grew up on this medium and now we have pushed them aside. For what? I'm not trying to make any kind of statement but.... it's just kind of sad. Not saying Standards is the answer but a good Oldies like they want to hear would be nice.

And look, I didn't even say anything mean about Clear Channel.

Is my memory fading that badly?!? Didn't KHYS/KTJM flip from the Jammin' Oldies format to AC or some derivitive of to take the Planet's audience when KKPN/KLTN went Regional Mexican? Or was it the other way around? If so, I'm sorry. I still don't remember KTJM's "98.5 The Jam" doing well ratings wise. That station has went through sooooooo many formats since the old days as Port Arthur's KPAC.
