New format in Houston???????????

We need a station like WKTU 103.5 in New York. That would be sweet, check em out at www.ktu.com.
Have you even been to New York? I personally think KTU is not the best sounding Rhytmic AC station. You would have think that it would be doing better because it is on the biggest market of the U.S. Just goes to show that there is even bad programming in the biggest market.........They are no longer the KTU they were with Dance.

Is my memory fading that badly?!? Didn't KHYS/KTJM flip from the Jammin' Oldies format to AC or some derivitive of to take the Planet's audience when KKPN/KLTN went Regional Mexican? Or was it the other way around? If so, I'm sorry. I still don't remember KTJM's "98.5 The Jam" doing well ratings wise. That station has went through sooooooo many formats since the old days as Port Arthur's KPAC.

KYHS did pull a 3 + share as Jammin Oldies...they sounded pretty good (except for the DJs).....CC screwed up when they moved it out to the Devers tower and changed the Urban/Soul format to match what was on Majic at the time..I had a coworker (who had engineered at KENR, pre KRBE AM days) back in the 70s....he loved KPAC-FM/KHYS's format when it was in Port Arthur....but sure enough, Clear Channel screwed it up when they put it on the Devers tower and tried to make it sound like a "big" market station..IF they had left it alone, it would have kicked Majic's butt all over the place..(aka: something different and NEW....and it sounded GOOD!)...but noooo, the CONsultants at CC just had to screw it all up...
As I said though, 98.5 did pull good ratings for a while as Jammin Oldies..Stephanie, the PD and morning gal at the time, I worked with later and she showed me the ratings....not bad for a rimshot...LBI I dont think has done as well ever since buying 98.5 (I could be wrong but if they have, it hasnt been much)...
Of course I worked at KPAC when it was a measly 3KW at 500ft into a pylon antenna that put most of its signal out over Sabine Lake!!!! It really sucked then before the changes from the beautiful music and then alt rock formats...(before the move to the 2000ft tower)...

I think something like Jammin 105.9 might be good for Houston.

That format was done before. Do you remember Jammin' oldies 98.5 and 103.3. That was the format which displaced Smooth FM 98.5 and 103.3 in 1997.

I mentioned earlier in this thread.

Actually, Mr. Tiller, I believe that was the Dance formatted Kiss 98-5/Kiss again 103-3. I still believe that we need a Rhythmic AC, despite if it has been done here before. It did well here.

It seems like it was a CC station at one point. Whoever bought it in 1997 dropped the longtime Standards format and replaced it with Hot AC "102.9 The Planet". That lasted all of a year until it ultimately became Univision's flagship as "Estereo Latino" in May 1998.
It was actually a pretty decent station. I had some airchecks on cassettes but unfortunately, the cheap cassettes I bought weren't dependable at all.

I have the last hour of KKPN "102.9 The Planet" on tape. Put away for safe keeping. I think I have it in mp3 format too.

Daing, the only thing I was able to find where two 10 minute airchecks of 106.5 KQQK, and they aren't even dated. It does say the date of a Kumbia Kings concert, so I may be able to look up the year.
