New Format On WWWN-FM To Debut This Afternoon

I just listened to the clip. My first thought was "Is this for real?" That was absolutely horrible. Sounded like a couple of college kids first shifts on the school radio station.

From what little I heard yesterday (which goes to show you how uninterested I am in listening to this trainwreck) I thought the on air presentation was straight out of "amateur hour"! If this station cracks a 1.0 share I would be shocked! At least the previous modern rock format garnered almost a 2.0 share.

I listened to a little more this evening & based on what I heard the people presenting the news sound like broadcasting school students.
I think you're being generous in predicting a 1.0 share.

Put up a stream is easier and it gives you a better idea how it sounds than a single aircheck from a couple of minutes.

HAHHAHA! Finally had a chance to listen to that audio clip. Hilarious and meant to be so. I'm going to listen again ....

I told you I'd listen to it again. Still very funny!

Did anyone notice the music sounds a lot like something from the beds available at the Fox News Radio affiliates site?

I'm sorry, but for those of you who think this is all part of the "stunting", I can't see how. That audio clip that was posted was an EPIC FAIL. Even if it is "stunting", why in the world put that on the air in the #3 market in the country? I'd run Blue Grass music, and call it Banjo 101 with chickens and cows in the background before I'd let what was on that clip hit the air.

Deep pockets don't equal programming genius.

I absolutely agree.

Attached is a press release issued today by Merlin.
It indicates that WWWN launched as an all news station today, 7/31/11. There is a large list of key staff members. They are marketing it as "Chicago's only 24 hour all news station."
Can anyone from the Chicago area discuss the current programming?
The many posts dwelling on a clip of a segment that occurred two days ago shed little light on what the station actually sounds like now.

Are they not able to pick up 780 AM or 105.9 FM at Merlin?

No that's not good. This would be a disaster if they can't even hit that 1.0 share and end up competing with the outlying suburban stations that barely get a 0.5 share in the city!

Oh, just to be clear, my comments should not be taken as criticism towards those who work at school radio stations as they put forth a better effort than the personnel at the new WWWN!

LMAO. This is classic Randy. He's screwing with all of us.

Well this would be even classic by Randy's standards! ;D

If this is not the final format, then I can see him going one of two ways. Either he programs an AC format now that he forced Fresh 105.9 to blow up their station for a news simulcast of sister station WBBM (though Fresh will continue on 105.9 HD2). Or he puts back the modern rock format under the guise of creating buzz. I doubt the latter would happen, so this is all an elaborate stunt, AC would probably the way he goes.

And yes, before anyone else says it, I suppose "Energy 101.1" is still a remote possibility too! ;)
