New Format On WWWN-FM To Debut This Afternoon

Beh! I'll pass on this version of a news station and keep listening to WBBM, especially after it hits 105.9 FM.

I was listening on the way home to 101.1 last night. I started yawning more...lol...

WWWN on FM 101.1 does not make like a WINS 1010 in NYC. The "feel" of the AM
is lost by being on the FM...not sure this market can support 2 news stations, recall
it's been tried before...anyone remember WNIS? (also on 101.1) WNUS 1390 had to
go even though they were first with the all-news format. High dial position and
terrible night coverage in the N/NW Burbs at night was their demise...

I'll remain a listener to 105.9/780 (The AM when out of range of the FM, of course!)

Wither the Westinghouse-era WMAQ/670? If it weren't for the Viacom/CBS merger (that forced WSCR's move to 670), who knows how long Q would have lasted?

I liked the news on WMAQ. I preferred it to WBBM.

OMG! It's been one day! Comparisons to NIS are unfair. That was 30 years ago.

And this is not going to be won or lost on one book. If Merlin's people can get their act together and be competitive to WBBM, who knows what will happen?

Out of town so can't listen to the station because they have no stream -- a pretty basic tool these days. Have heard airchecks and they leave a lot to be desired. They also lack any cohesive social media presence. The Facebook page is a joke as is the website itself http://www.fmnewschicago.com. And when you click on the Twitter icon, takes you to this message: Sorry, that page doesn’t exist!

Honestly, very surprised Randy Michaels put his name (and money) on such a half-baked launch.

Well we now know why Randy A.K.A. Radioactive is holding the Watseka FM. It's a great place to park call letters. It was WMLF, Then WWWN and now WKQX. Will he finally use the Frequency as the New WKQX????

Is WWWN still using the Q101 studios? Or did they move in with The Loop?

One of them was in the Merchandise Mart, IIRC...

Emmis moved the Loop into Q101's studios on the second floor of the Mart (they moved downstairs a long time ago) when they bought the station from Bonneville.

And Robert Murphy said at least once during his stint that he was broadcasting from "The Mancow Memorial Studio."

From what little I heard yesterday (which goes to show you how uninterested I am in listening to this trainwreck)...

A poster with the words "music fan" in his name who's not crazy about a spoken word format - gee, what are the odds?

Did WKQX relocate to a different part of the Merchandise Mart after NBC sold it to Emmis (and WMAQ/670 moved with WMAQ/5 over to the NBC Tower) or has it always been there literally since the NBC days?

It's been on the second floor of the Mart since the late 90s or so. About 20 years ago, the Mart tried a general shopping mall concept on their first two floors, and with the exception of a food court next to the L stop on the second floor, it failed miserably. I believe that the Merlin cluster studios are where part of a Carson Pirie Scott department store branch used to be. Q101 had stayed on the 17th floor for some time after NBC moved out and for a while they had company with Metro Traffic until *they* merged with Shadow and moved out. It seems to me that in addition, NextMedia also has (or used to have) sales offices and even some automation for some of their stations in the Mart.
