"New" KFRC and John Mack Flanagan Airchecks

The great Tom Richard, David Palmer and longtime KFRC employee Mike Krupicka have donated several outstanding airchecks to the radio museum, and they are now online on the website:

The KFRC airchecks include The Slim One (Leslie Nelson), a great unscoped hour-and-a-half of Dr. Don Rose (1976), Bobby Ocean's Last Show (1986 Edition) and the complete "Making Of A Classic" history of The Amazing AM (also from 1986):

The John Mack 'checks include great recordings from KFRC (1978), KWSS (1988) and KSFO/KYA-FM (1990):

All of the new additions are marked, strangely enough, with little "new" flags for easy idfentification.

Enjoy!

Dave, those John Mack Flanagan airchecks are out of sight! That is radio! This proves after listening to Johns air checks, the bay Area needs JMF back on the air! The 1990 KSFO/KYA were great! Leave it to you to dig up some of the Best Radio from the past! Wow! Youve gotta get my Wolfman Jack/ John Mack Flanagan tape from me it was 1991, when John Had Wolfman Jack on his show! You can have it Dave, the whole collection! I have Chris Edwards doing "The Golden Gate Greats" on 1260 KYA filling in for Candi Chamberlin in 1979 August to be exact! Kenny in Concord

Kenny, now that our new baby (and mama) are settling back in at home, I'm getting more museum website work done. I'll give you a call early next week.

Thanks!

Do you know when the KSAN & KOME pages will be up along with airchecks? I would appreciate it.

I'll try to get some KOME stuff up today. I conversated with KOME alumna Jona Denz-Hamilton via email recently about building a complete KOME tribute, along the lines of the great "Jive 95" website (www.Jive95.com) that KSAN's alumni have built.

The KOME tribute will be at www.KOMEspot.com

I've put off doing a full KSAN collection page, mostly because the Jive 95 people have done such a great job of their own.

We also have some amazing new KSOL 107.7, Hot Hits KITS (Flip Fryer and Tom Gilligan) and KMEL (Sonny Joe Fox) recordings from 1986 that will be loaded up today...

By the way, the reason it takes a while to get some of this done is because I'm doing nearly all of the writing. If anybody would like to contribute a few articles about Bay Area radio stations, please contact me through the museum website. (And thank you.)

JMF is a hack. Stop talking about him in the same breath as Osh, Chucker, DDR and other Bay Area legends.

Jimmythebassett, your last post is way off! You obviously have no idea of what your talking about, John Mack Flanagan has done more for Bay Area Radio and is a Bay Area and Beyond Legend, Your comments are yours and yours alone.!!!!!!!!!! I really doubt you could ever do Radio like JMF, Todays DJs should learn from his shows, how to do radio, And Dave Jackson, thanks for the most recent "Inductees" into the Bay Area hall of fame!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kenny in Concord Dig up more of the KSFO/KYA days , Can you find Joel Parker Antrim? He was with JMF at KCBS FM97.3 in 1981

JMF is one of the all-time greats. He did PM Drive at KFRC longer than just about anyone, and with good reason.
And we're talking about the years when the Big 610 was station of the year for year after year after year.

Besides being one of the greats on the air, he's one of the best off-air as well. If you ever met the man you'd know.
His attitude was always super positive and he was always generous with his time for listener and co-worker alike.
There was a time when you could tune in at 9 am on KFRC and get JMF and Bobby Ocean one right after the other.
It was one of the finest blocks of programming ever. Not long after JMF moved to afternoons and lit up the drive home.
Ocean is one of the elite of the radio industry and John Mack is right up there with him.

It's tragic that he's not working full-time in SF anymore, especially for the listener.

I can't believe I have an old air check of J. Parker Antrim from when he was at KSJO back in 1975 when the former hard rocker was doing top-40, and another air check of Paula Kelly and J.P. pulling the plug on the old KYA/KSFO at mid-night over 20 years ago...where has the time gone?

I sort of wish I lived in the Bay Area back with the legends you have air checks for. I was fortunate enough to live near Philadelphia in this era and heard Philadelphia's own broadcast legends back in their day. While looking at the air checks from KFRC, my reason for responding is I know Dr. Don Rose did some broadcast work in Philadelphia. There was also a Beau Weaver who was on WIFI 92 in Philadelphia. Is this the same person?

What a hoot listening to the music of this era, and someone actually winning Byron McGregor's The American. I had that on 45! Will I eventually hear "Mill Valley, California" too?

Thanks.

Dr. Don did indeed work at WFIL in Philadelphia. He was a wonderful man and a top air-talent. As for the Beau Weaver we know from KILT, KFRC and even KHJ, well his resume' doesn't list him as ever having done time at WIFI. Must've been someone else using the name. That's been a common occurrence in the world of radio forever. That's why Eric Chase has been Paul Christy in Houston the last 2 decades or so. But he'll always be El Chasero to me!

Greetings BossRadio tell me where to send the air check of KSJO and I'll get it to you. It's about 1 hour long and the recording is fair to good I'll let you be the judge. It's a trip to hear KSJO promoting concerts like The Capt. and Tonille. Long time listeners to this station probably don't remember it turning "bubblegum" for about a year, being that KSJO was mostly a hard rocker until the summer of '75 and changed formats for about a year then flipped back to rock ( I think they just assume it was always a rocker) I'll also send you my air checks of (double x radio) KX-RX, (solid gold hits) 15 AM KHTT with the flip to all business radio (1500 KSJX) and my (super 16) KLIV collection (circa 1975-1980) air checks complete with newscasts of the day.

DX (and everyone else),

The mailing address is:

BAY AREA RADIO MUSEUM, INC.
4847 HOPYARD ROAD #3-245
PLEASANTON, CA 94588

(And no, that's not the actual location of the museum; it's simply my business address.)

I must make one major correction to my original post here -- the great new KFRC airchecks featuring The Slim One, Bobby Ocean and the "Making of a Classic," were actually provided by James Baker.

My only excuse is that I still haven't had a full night's sleep in nearly three weeks, but I want to make sure that Mr. Baker's generous contribution to the museum is publicly acknowledged.

If you haven't heard them yet, have yourself a listen at:

And now, back to changing diapers...
