Don't know how else to describe it, but KRLD this week is transitioning in a bunch of new sounders. Right now a mix of the old and the new. They do this periodically; one I remember dropped the actual day of the Fort Hood shooting.
Jack, Fan or Spot? Which one do you sacrifice for the migration @Holstead? That's the current conundrum Audacy Dallas is facing.Time for them to move to FM...A *good* FM. A general market, 100kw, Cedar Hill stick.
KRLD is not an FM format. Not in its current incarnation. They might as well sign off between 9AM and 3PM and after 7.Jack, Fan or Spot? Which one do you sacrifice for the migration
KRLD could just swap the AM and FM formats.
Judging by their ID they are actually on multiple sticks on HD2. By multiple I mean 3 or 4, likely all Audacy-owned.
Emporor Jerry won't like thatKRLD could just swap the AM and FM formats.
100 percent agree! It's an aging format and an aging staff. They have some talented people, but not ready for FM. They barely cut the internet.KRLD is not an FM format. Not in its current incarnation. They might as well sign off between 9AM and 3PM and after 7.
The only news station that has benefited financially with an FM simulcast is WINS. KRLD is not WINS. Not even close.
They make more money with the sports format.
I wish KRLD-AM would go all-news and get rid of the talk shows at night and paid programs on the weekend.
IIRC The last new 24 / 7 news operation in the South was 106.7 in Atlanta. It failed. IMHO Cumulus under Dickey was not the company to attempt this, but that is a whole other tread. A lot of folks on this site believe that "red" states are not fertile grounds for "All News" formats. Georgia is a "purple" state with Atlanta is a relatively "blue". Dallas Fort Worth is a bigger market than Atlanta so number wise it may be a possible there could be a big enough group to have a decent P1 verses Atlanta. I am sure someone has / will do the research to figure this out.I wish KRLD-AM would go all-news and get rid of the talk shows at night and paid programs on the weekend.
I'd dump KVIL...Jack, Fan or Spot? Which one do you sacrifice for the migration @Holstead? That's the current conundrum Audacy Dallas is facing.
I'd dump KVIL...
Oh yeah. I know the difficulty. I just wish we had an all-news option. a "news utility" if you will.. where you know that whenever you tune in, you'll get a live newscast. It's not easy.. at all. but I think it can be done in a market this size. It's hard to do because there's so little money in overnights and weekends. And good talent wants that time off.

I am up overnight most nights and know the problem well. It would take a commitment from a broadcaster that does not currently exist in this market. It would be costly and risky. I think it would pay off, but it's not my dime either. It would have to be a subscription system, where they people who want it would pay for it. Because advertisers won't.
What advertisers WANT are infomercials, where they can sell their products for more than :30.
Stay up some night and watch cable news after midnight. Tell me what you see.
Ain't going to happen. It's all about the pennies they get.I wish KRLD-AM would go all-news and get rid of the talk shows at night and paid programs on the weekend.
