New Liners for Jack FM

Thanks guys!!!

Hey guys..I don't post here much and I am not in radio..I am a passionate listener..I travel alot for work and happened to be in Baltimore and Nashville the day they were Jacked off...My intention for this thread was what most people got..to have some fun and take the arrogance of the Jack FM liners, sound, attitude and ownership to the next level....have fun....Jack FM won't last....
Ok..another one.......
Having the balls to be bad-104-3 Jack FM

it appears the truth hurts

My post was ALL about radio.

Radio pros and wannabees alike whine and cry about radio being all sterile and limited to 250 song playlists- then, a new format comes out that's fresh and different and because (so far)they have no jocks and they replaced a few beloved oldies stations (which sucks), nearly all we see is a smarmy negativity toward it (Jack), why it's so bad and predictions of it's nearly immediate demise.

If you've been reading about V.H. stations on many of these boards, the mis-truths about it abound- how it's "already losing steam" and "is in trouble" when most of them have been on-air less than 6 months. Whether we like or agree with the JACK approach, the proliferation of venom toward it is really amazing and pretty sad.

There's nothing sarcastic about that. About 90% of the people on these boards are anonymous- at least I have an Email address for off-board communication.

And, I'm not the only one who feels this way.

I don't get why my Jackronyms were deleted. here goes on a liner.

Sadly none of this energy goes toward making your radio stations better. Isn't THAT radio's biggest problem?

I think the problem as most people see it and which is causing the strong reactions is... these Jack stations are reacting to the ipod and downloadable music wave and trying to be something they aren't. Your IPOD on shuffle!

No one in their right mind is going to pick a radio station with 10+ minutes of commercials an hour over their own IPOD with their own musical tastes on shuffle with NO COMMERCIALS...

All the Jacks are doing is taking the last things radio has up on digital recording and music devices and throwing it out the window! People should be able to turn to radio for the time, their local weather, traffic and some laughs... Its the music AND personality of radio that keeps our listeners coming back despite the commercials.... lose the personality and why would anyone choice the music and commercials of radio over endless personal music choices without commcerials on other music delivery methods?

All these stations seem to be doing is taking heritage stations off the dial and pushing more people to other forms of music listening... online streaming, their own created collections on an IPOD-like device or even XM radio, once radio loses a listener its extremely hard to ever get them back. I think all the Jack stations can accomplish is sharing listeners not making new ones.

People who find other forms of musical fulfillment need a huge reason to tune back to radio, something they can't get anywhere else, someone they like, a promotion, something they really want to win or something they feel drastically affects their lives. Sweeper, Song, Sweeper, Song, Sweeper, and Commercial Stop Set formatted radio isn't going to do it!
______________

Actually, there are few 50 year olds in nursing homes. My father was in a nursing home at age 70 and he was the youngest one there. Most people in nursing homes would not only have disliked the old format on 104.3, they would be unfamiliar with the music.

More liners

Our boss hates you, but we think you're too dumb to care. 104-3, Jack-FM.

The same crap you've heard elsewhere - but we pretend it's different! 104-3, Jack-FM.

Millions of dollars of tireless market research - all carefully disregarded. 104-3, Jack-FM.

If you're over 40, flip the station. We don't want your kind around here. 104-3, Jack-FM.

Phil Collins. Every hour, on the hour. 104-3, Jack-FM.

The most self-important station this side of The Drive. 104-3, Jack-FM.
Edited by Sodboy13 on 07/17/05 08:11 PM.

the truth pt 2

You're totally right in your premise- EXCEPT, the fact is JACK's "iPod on shuffle" thing is only imaging and NOT the true intent of the format. Doesn't anybody get imaging and positioning anymore? A liner is heard and it's taken literally (mostly by those looking for ANY reason to hate the station that replaced their Oldies). It's just IMAGING- trying to speak listeners' langugage and like it or not that image certainly does resonate with listeners tired of 250 song playlists, repetitive jocks and same-sounding commercials.

I'll also remind everybody that the jockless nature of most JACK stations will likely NOT BE LONG TERM.

Bottom line: give them the chance to fully develop. Most new radio stations, regardless of format, start off without personalities.

The JACK concept is not likely to cure radio's ills, but it is also not the only example of what's wrong with radio.

Creativity is good indeed

AY-MEN!!!

All of this anti-Jack negative energy. That is indeed part of what is wrong with radio today.

I can imagine Mr. Jack saying this...

"Jack researches whatever he plays, but he wants you to think that it is stuff he feels like playing from his own record collection on the fly. (Pause) Suckers!" Then, "Jack-FM laughing all the way to the bank and guess who is pushing the wheelbarrel full of money?"

Though, residents of the Shady Valley Nursing Home would have likely prefered the repetitive playlist and melodies of the old 104.3 than the 'new-fangled' tunes of 104.3 Jack FM.

Re: Creativity is good indeed

First off, grab the closest dictionary, and look up the noun "satire." Then maybe you'll get this thread.

Secondly, I am nothing but positive about Jack-FM. I'm positive that the format sounds like crap-on-a-stick, and I'm positive that if the trend toward nationally homogenized jockless formats continues, I won't be able to make a living in this field for much longer.

Yes, that`s the dirty little secret about JACK-FM. The
corporate honchos all get that slightly maniacial look
in their eye when they think "My God, we pulled it off,
an entire format without any talent." Pretty soon, the
savings alone becomes addictive, and three months with
no jocks lends itself to six months. I think it`s a
safe bet that between now and Christmas, 104.3 sees no
air talent talking up those memorable songs.

Re: More liners

You want personality, you've come to the wrong place...104-3 Jack FM.

Trust me, we have little or none of that here in Denver on our Jack station. Get out you VH1, Billboard or any other music book that you can buy at a bookstore and follow along as they read sections from it about artists. I'm SO over the "musicologist" thing out here. KBCO, The Mountain and KCUV all do the "musicologist" thing and it's some of the most boring crap to listen too. No one outside of morning drive out here is the least bit entertaining to listen too. The hope was Jack's "screw you" attitude would have translated to the station. Nope. And from what I've heard (with my ears and from others) is they all sound the same. Get ready to hear about J. Geils playing in BFE, Nebraska on this date in 1975. How's that for live, local and entertaining?

they still don't get it

And this is where all the Jack haters are wrong-- JACK IS NOT "corporate" radio's "dirty little secret" to put on "entire format without any talent"!
How many times do you have to hear it to get it? What you're saying is simply not true and is indicitave of the negative, defeatist "everything about corporate radio today sucks" mindset.

Is it a perfect radio world- no. Are you guys doing anything to make it better- also, no. If all of you put that energy toward MAKING RADIO BETTER vs. just whining and tearing it down, perhaps satellite radio and iPods wouldn't be so popular.

And what's worse is the same drivel keeps getting repeated over & over again. It's like many of you view radio through s&#t colored glasses.

In case you've forgotten, at least Biondi, Winston and Brown are still under multi-year contracts and Infinity still has to pay them, whether they're on the main station, the Internet stream/HD sideband or not. Brown and Winston are still board-oping at Jack in their shifts, as are the rest of the staff except Biondi and Perry, and getting paid a lot to just press buttons and voice one or two spots a week (in the case of Winston and Brown). Infinity's not saving that much money, if any--and if they want to buy Biondi, Winston and Brown out, you know damn well that they won't let Infinity buy 'em out cheap, unless they've got a new gig lined up (in which case Infinity could then hit 'em with a no-compete).

Jack's target demo is 35-54. So much for that cheap shot.

Guess you really want to hear "My Girl" for the ten millionth time while Dick Biondi tells you to drive safely and don't drink and drive.

How long has KJKK Dallas been on and can you read me off their entire airstaff? If the flagship is any indication....... the 1 solo on air person is in AM Drive and she is not even the AM Drive person. Their web site pegs her as.... " Brenda brings the news and traffic. " Very comforting.

Read above.

I am going to repeat, I have no problem with Jack or the concept. I do have a problem when people are misinformed or try to avoide the truth.

JACK Canada is you "friend", JACK is cool.

JACK US, it has been made clear within the industry, that they will be jockless for as long as possible and when the jockless phase wears off, you will find low key liner readers. (Both aimed at lowest common denominator and money saving measures).
