New Miami Station on 880 Khz

They probably intend to put more anti-cuba talk and how it would be better with them in charge lol

There you go again.

There is no "anti-Cuba" talk on Miami radio. There is plenty of talk about the leadership, going back to the 60's. But the Cuban exile community is pro-Cuba... just not pro-Castro (either of them).

In any case, you have no way of knowing that the station will even be in Spanish, let alone a talk station. It might be religious, or in Kreyol, or even brokered.... if it ever gets built. an 8 tower night directional is a very costly and difficult proposition, even if diplexed. I'd question whether a pure Dade signal is worth it.

aargh...back to topic.....

Can anyone tell whether this DA would even drop a decent signal over Miami?? Or are we talking "WSRF-type" here??

Interesting to note that it's diplexing with 1080...Wonder if Salem has its' eyes on it. They are pushing their new "Radio Luz" initiative in markets like Boston, but have yet to put it on here in Miami (didn't even displace Christian Talk/Teaching when it moved off of WKAT).

Ha ha just what Miami needs...another AM radio station that nobody listens to. Guess they've never heard "Less is More".

It has a call sign now (WZAB) and according to the application the applicant owns no other stations. Hmm.. the mystery deepens.

That is bizarre. Most of it's 10 mv/m coverage is over Black and Hispanic populations... neither of which groups would have much interest if any in that kind of music.

In this day and age that doesn't mean anything anymore. They could sign on with an LMA to a major operator that already has stations in the market.

With that signal, who would want it?

This new signal is not worth arguing about. Just more static on the AM dial. There are still some
people naive enough to think that getting ANY radio license is a path to riches. Where have they been?

What areas specifically does it put a good signal over??? The FCC website shows the pattern but I can't actually see what areas the signal will cover.

It's located at the 1070 site in the Glades. To South, good signal to about Kendall Drive, and east over S Miami, Gables, Downtown, Liberty City, Airport, Hialeah, OpaLoka, probably most of NMB and the beaches.

Black, Hispanic and old folks on the beach. 50's oldies? No way it can work. Nearly all signal is in the Dade County area-.

Miami-Ft. Lauderdale/Re: New Miami Station on 880 Khz

Salem Media of Miami Announces New Radio Station
October 06, 2008: 01:45 PM EST

Salem Media of Miami (NASDAQ: SALM) gets its newest radio station, WZAB (880AM) The Biz, an all-business station. WZAB (880AM) The Biz adds to Salem Miami's roster of stations that includes WMCU (1080AM) and WKAT (1360AM).

Joe D. Davis, President of Salem's Radio Division, states, "Encouraged by the success of our business-formatted KDOW (1220AM) in San Francisco, we identified Miami as another market where we expect this increasingly popular format to be successful. Everyone is concerned about their jobs, their money, and their future. This dynamic body of timely content speaks to those concerns and provides a huge opportunity for our advertisers and for the Miami metro."

Tony Calatayud, General Manager, adds, "We are thrilled on commencing the only business station in South Florida. In this day and age, financial news affects all people, of all walks in a direct fashion. Information in these challenging times is key and no one else on the radio dial will be able to keep South Florida better informed than The Biz."

.....and No one in South Florida will be able to hear The Biz.

from here in my perch in Pembroke Pines (which one would deduce would be a big area filled with a 'Biz Target audience'), all I get is splatter from WINZ on 880.

Now really, not that it's a favorite format of mine, but Salem, don't you think "Radio Luz" would've been the 'no brainer'?

Marginal at best in the daytime up here in Lauderdale, a total wash after sundown.

Salem is so close to liquidating all of their assets and getting out of the biz it's scary. Let's face it, the satellite/pay-to-play model is about to fold. Why they insist on trying new formats they're not experienced with at this late date is beyond me. ???

Well, its not gonna be a top biller thats for sure,, But I may have maybe slightly disagree with David Eduardo on this one,, Which I rarely do, cause he knows his stuff,, But Alot of 50s and 60s oldies was like Black Urban Doo WOop type stuff, and then the 60s mowtown,, both of which could have a following with an older Black and Hispanic population.. Sure,, I dont think an Oldies station that focused on stuff like The Beattles and Hippy music would work,,, but an Oldies Urban leaned station just might.. But like you guys say,,,, I wouldnt take that signal if they gave it to me,, All its gonna do is make it more difficult to hear WCBS,,,, which with that signal,, I bet WCBS would still be heard loud and clear in parts of the Miami Palm Beaches,,Homestead,,area,,, especially if its gonna be a daytimer,, which it would almost have to be.

With that said,, Miami could use an FM Oldies station,, and need I say th dreaded D-Word.. a Dance station,,, but who if anyone could or would roll with these formats in Miami,,, My guess at this time is Nobody,, since in most markets, both these formats are usually Bottom Feeders,, but who on FM in Miami is doing bad enough with their format, to take a plunge and try one or both of these formats in their Cluster.... I guess you could call Radio Exxito 105.5 a Dance station to a point, but its a Billingual station with their tower in the worst place of all,,, the middle of the keys, and the 50kw signal barely touches on Miami or Keywest,, though their studios are based in Homestead.. However they are also attempting to target North beach Cuba listeners.
