New morning host at WGST-AM

“I am also hoping that if I play my cards right, my new colleagues at WGST will take me to The Varsity to celebrate, where I once had the best hot dog of my life.”

What colleagues?

A libertarian who voted for Obama, yeah.
That'll work here, right. The guy has
no ratings in Philly and he'll be on GST?
Smell huge success. LOL

What an executive decision that was. Well, when you are out of money because of no ratings, what are you going to do? Then, with this decision, the ratings go even lower, how do you pay the light bill? Then, hopefully, they will sell the station. One more question, Why in the world would you need a pd to program an all sydicated station? Get rid of him, the GM, the president, the regional vp, and the CEO and maybe you could hire some talent. What a waste.

I've seen Smerconish a lot on cable networks such as CNN and FOX News in primetime. He's a solid talk guy, smart and a good thinker.

But, local he is not. Frankly, is anyone surprised WGST is going with a syndicated host?

I am reminded of an ad for a Monty Python movie from years ago... "Now playing at a theater near you-- if it is not playing at a theater near you....MOVE!!!" That's the way I'm feeling about local drive-time radio. It looks like if I want a quality, locally produced, entertaining and informative drive time radio program, I'm going to have to move somewhere else.

Hey, this business model works for WGKA, look how well they are doing.

I saw where CC gave up a bunch of AM's maybe GST will be next. Why spend any money if your going to unload it?

Clear Channels's music stations are now being operated off a national schedule now. Same songs on many of their stations of that format. CC does not care if it is local or not.

Speaking of WGST...I am curious...do they still have a local news department?

Snappy retort of the year!

Do they still have a news dept? Let's see, they won eight AP awards last year including best newscast. Computers can't do that.

There are some good people at WGST, real good people. I hate to see them suffer through the slow, painful decline of a once great radio station.

SMELL is the key word in that quote!

Another nail in local talk radio's coffin. With the loss of the GST Morning Drive, all we have left for a discussion of local issues is the first hour of Boortz, Herman Cain and Sports Talk (790 and 680). It's sad, but inevitable (I guess), to see this happening before our very eyes. I may be in the minority but I thought Boortz and Hannity were much better to listen to when they competed against each other locally. I guess those days are gone for good.

That hot dog was very important. It gives him tremendous credibility to be a host in Atlanta.

$10 says he works Stone Mountain into his first show. $5 bonus on mentioning Peachtree streets.

GST fired most of the news people who won the AP awards last year. This is the last step toward completely throwing in the towel. It's obvious Scott Lindy is there to program the Bull and doesn't give a flying rats behind about the talk station. BTW, the leftover morning news guy, Mike Conti (who did NOT win one of those awards last year but works cheaper than the guys who did), is also from Philly. Two guys from Philadelphia on the Braves station. What a f*ing joke.

Hannity was MUCH better when he was on WGST. Now he is a chore to listen to. Boortz gets softer by the year. Martha Zoller is great on WDUN, but they got rid of her 11:00 hour for someone else. Glenn Beck is sounding better, but that may just be Boortz sounding worse.
