New morning show on The End - "Mornings with Red"

I'm surprised that nobody has commented on this -- at least not in the posts I've read.

Apparently, Whitney "Red" Knoerlein is the new host of The End's morning show. She comes from WWDC ("DC101") and a fan blog says she'll be in town on July 19th. The show starts in August.

A couple of websites refer to an Entercom press release:
Entercom Modern Rock mainstay KNDD (107.7 The End)/Seattle announces its new morning show, hosted by Whitney "Red" Knoerlin [sic]. Red begins her new gig starting in August and will be heard weekdays from 5:30-10 a.m. She most recently hosted middays at WWDC (DC101)/Washington, D.C. under her first name.

"I am incredibly stoked and grateful for the opportunity to join such an epic team," Red said. "Is this the part where I make a joke about the rain?"

KNDD PD Mike Kaplan says, "I’m thrilled she’s on the team! Red’s clever, honest…and in for one rough winter."

The station says that "Mornings with Red" will be a "community-driven, digitally interactive experience utilizing The End’s full array of online and mobile applications." The show will also include an hour and seven minutes of Non-Stop End-to-End Music each weekday morning.

Personally, I hope that her DC101 blog (http://www.dc101.com/pages/whitney.html) and MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/whitneyonair) don't reflect the sum total of her personality. Not sure if I want to spend my morning listening to "good stoner topics" from a self-described slacker who is "stoked" to join such an "epic" team. Lots of music is a good thing, but it sounds like they're going after the "young rocker" demo... and that ain't me.

I was hoping for Kevin & Bean. Oh, well...

If it's not someone that hasn't been on The End before (Marco, No Name, Norman B, Reid) or someone nobody knows about, I don't think anyone here cares.

I'll give a listen when she starts but from what I quickly see on her blog and hear on a few radio clips I doubt it will be destination radio for me.

Caught a few minutes of Dick Rosetti filling in on the Mountain.

If the Mountain is going for more End playlist, maybe they hook up with some of those ex-End DJs eventually on a regular basis.

Not a big deal with me, just sayin' I could see it.

Nothing like promoting your new morning talent. Not a peep of it on the End's website. ??? Wouldn't it be nice to start getting the word out to your audience?

Also it appears they have canned their night chick. Do they have someone else lined up or is this just another cost cutting thing?

That is disappointing if that's the case. Jordin (sp?) seemed to be about the best-sounding talent over there. I didn't want to say "hardest working" because while I don't like former GRCC student Pounder's style, he works very hard.

I should add 2 other things I noticed:
a) no End "Beach House" this year on Alki :-(
b) Entercom also fired the only female air talent from KNRK- 94/7 in Portland. They extended the solo-man morning show an additional hour, do the "iPod dance" in midday and then switch to poor Gustav for 7 hours!

DAMN....for a minute, I thought Red Robinson got a new gig hosting mornings on KNDD....Why not? Red (Robinson)'s magic touch can make Silversun Pickups as cool as The Beatles or Elvis.........

Looks like more than just Jordin Silver gone (and suddenly, too -- her End blog page was wiped clean out of existence in the last couple of days). "Abbey" is no longer on the schedule page, either. While she wasn't fantastic, Jordin definitely didn't ignore the music (at least the times I heard her). She had potential. (Interesting side note: her MySpace page lists her income as "$60,000 to $75,000." How easy is it to replace a pretty good talent for less?)

Is August 1 going to me some kind of magic overhaul date?

Harms... you read this board... care to give us some inside scoop??

Please, please, KNDD... don't make this into some wannabe junior rocker station programmed by the cast of Half Baked. It's already really sad that one has to hop around in four-minute increments between a half-dozen stations to find something vaguely interesting to listen to in the car. At least I've got KROQ2 and Classic Live105 streaming at home.

I've just flipped by for short stints but Red sounds alright, mabe better than that.

Sounds a lot like Jordin Silver to me- pitch, delivery and personality wise- but maybe more depth on the music and in the craft.

I thought maybe there would be a lot of Red-producer banter about Hollywood or sex making it like Corolla Or Loveline but from the snatches I've heard it is all about music or Seattle. Seattle as seen by a newcomer.

It isn't smashing but so far it isn't bad and it certainly could have been.
Lazlo & Co. was real bad in my opinion.

I had a chance to hear Red on DC101 (which by the way is a very good active rock station), and found her to be pretty good actually. In fact as jocks go on the station, she was a star who garnered a big station send-off party.

So before you pile-on with the assumption that unless it's some jock from Seattle's past she can't be any good, at least give her a chance to get her feet wet.

I still say Red Robinson would totally ROCK on ANY station.......

I'm reserving judgment until I actually hear something other than her dippy quasi-news bits (lose those, PLEASE!). Seems to be more music than talk -- at least when I've tuned in -- which, if the news bits are examples of her humor, is definitely a good thing. Red, the snarky socio-political asides sound phony. You're a well-paid professional working for a major corporation, not some skater kid outfitted by Goodwill.

As another poster pointed out... at least you're not Lazlo.

I know it is considered impolite but it applies to the schtick or style- how old is she? Mid to late 20s or definitely in her 30s?

If she in still in her 20s then the hip to the kids stuff might be more passable than otherwise.

One of the quips that I thought was too far was about Paramore and a possible break-up not being true and she said something like "not something to cut yourself about".

Re: The End

P.S. Harms, I don't know if it is your choice or company directive but those teases "and I'll tell you in 7 minutes" are pretty annoying to me. If you have a thought, I'd say complete it or at least after one song or one commercial break. If they work, do what you gotta do but I think it is likely ineffective but I am just guessing because they are ineffective on me. After a few times waiting that didn't seem like 7 minutes.

So, I am actually a DC resident and formally a listener of Whitney "Red" from DC101. She was really nothing more than a glorified groupie with both feet in the past as far as her taste in music goes. Never open to play any new music. Or maybe that was just the station??? [EDIT]
Hope she's got a different image for Seattle.
