New Owner of KAPS / KBRC in Mount Vernon

New owner of KAPS and KBRC in Mount Vernon. He was introduced to the staff today. Heritage Northwest Radio family son takes over the reins. Have you guessed it yet? Most recently with Cheap Channel and with BiCoastal Media in SW Washington... well?

If true, it's about time somebody took that trainwreck over.

If I TRULY had my way (when....oh when....), KAPS would be full-time LOCAL originating Full Service Spanish AC. KBRC would be (English) LOCAL originating Full Service AC or Full Service Classic Hits (a'la KLOG). It would be a better deal for Skagit County radio listeners than more BORING "Bird Crap" that KBRC/KAPS has been feeding us since at least 1997....

That is if they can find ANY Skagit County RADIO listeners anymore..........

They have turntables? Remind me what they were used for.

Who, Randy, who?

Of course, they've been through a few changes sine you and I worked up at the Brick...KBRC, a service of the Pioneer Broadcorping Castration. :D

Nothing filed with the FCC that I've seen.

And as much as I love local radio - with Seattle, Bellingham and various Canadian signals booming into this area this is a tough sell on the streets. At least in Aberdeen and Yakima and Klamath Falls you know you've got listeners - in these umbrella markets it's very tough.

Whoever has it...good luck and good hunting...

OMG I remember a particular night after a Husky game we ended up back at the BRICK "K-BRC" and did a whole lot of HEAVY partying at the old station... the old adobe building. Good times Scott. What happened to Pepper??

Randy, you must be talkin' about John. If so, he's got a good track record for developing revenues.

RR-

Don't know about Pepper Rae. Fun girl, for certain. Did end up DJing for her wedding reception, so there's a twist, huh? After that, we all went our many various ways. As did the station. The adobe building is long gone, flooded out and never replaced. Too bad, was a pretty cool old art deco place with lots of interesting memories. Hope the new owners find a niche...JDW is correct, many signals in that umbrella market.

Here's a trip to make you feel older...the kid who was (possibly) conceived in the adobe building's "production" studio is now a 21 yo junior at Western up in Bellingham. Gives new meaning to the word "production!" Hee hee.

Anyways, glad you are still in radio and keeping it as live and local as reasonable in Mason County.

One of my stations is KBKW. Used to be owned by John's dad. My morning talk show host is Doug McDowell. He worked at the Mt. Vernon stations during the time-frame you're talking about. I'm getting the fun stories from Doug.

You might want to ask Doug about a phone call I made to him at the station KBRC in Mount Vernon while he was doing his show. I think I'd been there about a month or two when this happened. We talked about some things we'd never want on the air... Doug puts me on hold and comes back to the phone and says- "Crap! All of that was just on the air! Costello says we're both fired!" One of many McDowell stories Bill.
