DJ Big Bink coming to Columbus as the PD at Power 107 WCKX. Working the 3-7 shift M-F. Moving Nia Noelle moving 10-3 M-F. Pretty good shake up. Now they need to adjust the morning show and get rid of those two by adding Russ Par instead. :-\

Yeah and add some actual mix shows on Friday and Saturday nights, heck maybe even upgrade the playlist by adding newer songs to the playlist quicker like some of the better urban stations in other markets. :)
Anyone know where he's from or where he's worked previously?

I wonder what they did with Marcus? I heard him on the radio yesterday. In regards to the morning show, Konata has been there too long and to me acts fake. I also know some people that know him and say that he has a "big head" because of him being on the morning show. Misty is nice but can get on your nerves alot if you listen long enough. I agree with the mix shows and update their play lists more. Sometimes you can hear the same song with-in an hour and half.

I haven't been to Dallas in a while but I'm familar with 979 the Beat. They actual compete with my all time fav urban station KKDA K-104 (I listen to that station online quite often) so hopefully we can hear some change here on Power and hopefully very soon :)
I never understood the lack of mixshows in general for an urban radio station especially at night on the weekends. I agree with ur take on Konata (i dont know him personally but dude does seem to have a big head and his head is huge also LOL), Misty is cool but a little can go a long way (not sure shes an actual radio person but I've heard alot worse) not sure whats gonna happen to Marcus he always seemed like he was being held back a little but he was ok. I've always prayed for another urban station to provide some much needed competition and possibly improve Power so whatever changes may be coming with this new PD I welcome them cuz I for one am tired of having such a lack luster urban radio station :)

The Sunday show you're referring to Street Soldiers. I would assume it's staying? Power's been looking for a new PD for a long time. Listening now and they have Nia in middays with a new throwback mix at noon. Maybe Big Bink will cook up something for the 5pm hour unless they're using the produced mixshows that are sent in. I listened to a little bit of The Beat today and they have a SLIGHT rhythmic lean playing more Rihanna and Baby Bash. Imaging was a lot better too with Rickey Smiley in the morning. Now THAT is something I would listen to.

the imaging on Power can use a ton of improvement. does the rotation sound any differnet today (been at work all day and I think I listened to the Fan on the way into work this morning LOL) As for Big Bink from what my people in the DFW say he used to mix alot himself on the Beat and though he was pretty good a lot of them still prefered K-104 (take that for what its worth, K-104 is a locally owned station in a major market which is rare and they've done there own thing and done it well for 30 years plus and going now.) The Beat does list itself as a Rhythmic

The imaging is NOTHING like most of the R1 stations, however today, it does sound a lot better. The songs are overlaying with the imaging and it sounds a lot more "big city". The music rotation doesn't sound a lot different, but I never thought the rotation was all that bad, just the songs IN rotation. I see The Beat and K104 are almost even in the Dallas-Fort Worth book with K104 only behind ahead a little in PPM.

Hey, I like the "big city" radio sound and hey if The Beat and K-104 were close then I think thats a good thing and the people who enjoy that music are the real winners, IMO.
and I did mean the actual songs in rotation LOL
the only other R1 mainstream urban stations I've really ever heard where The Wiz in Cinncy, Z107 in Cleveland and The Boxx in Houston, all of who sound better music and imagining wise then Power has ever sounded here

I like the big city sound too, hopefully more of it comes this way. I'll be listening to Big Bink at 3.

The Wiz gets boring from time to time, but they're a lot better than Power, and they perform a lot better than Power. Z107 is very good too. Never heard the Houston station.

I don't get to hear the Wiz that often but when I'm down that way I do like it much better than Power here, Z107 is hands down the best of the 3 here in Ohio IMO. I used to listen to the Boxx alot when I lived down there, when it 1st started it was awesome but I hear its flat now a days from having no competition at all. The last competator they had was an Univision owned Rhythmic Party 104.9 and that was an awesome station, I think the PD was Mean Green (a producer who worked with Master P and UGK) most of the other jocks were hispanic and good. they played alot of hip-hop (especially texas and southern hip-hop) along with a lot of rhythmic artist (baby bash, natalie, gemini etc.) and they didn't sleep on r&b either, had nightly mix shows and they were in the mix all weekend for any and every little holiday, I used to love listening to there Sat night mix show live from whatever club they were at and the best part about it was the host would usually have a celebrity there co-hosting (I remember one night Young Buck was there and u could tell he had several drinks, dude missed his flight outta town cuz he was having too good of a time at the club LOL) it went until 4am central (5am our time) so I'd come home from DJing or what ever and turn them on and it was a blast. I know their ratings were always behind The Boxx (IMO inferior signal) but sadly Univision moved them to a 100,00 rimshot signal @ 93.3 which was way out in Port Arthur and they werent out there long before Univision pink slipped the entire airstaff of Party and a few of there other local station there in Houston and flipped it to some sort of Spanish AC in a cost cutting move. Sad how it seems all of the good stations die swift and suddenly like that LOL

sure thing bro, i'm a radio head turned DJ from a young age. I was blessed to grow up in Shreveport, LA. who always had multiple urban/urban AC stations with great jocks/personalities and with us being right down the road from Dallas, TX and Houston, TX when we were visiting family there I could DX stations from there, even New Orleans, LA. and Jackson, MS. I've just always had a love for good radio, especially good urban radio (hip-hop, R&B and old school) and I knew every station and ever town. so when i moved here it hurt, Power used to be on that terrible signal out in London, OH and they played no hip-hop at all, their quiet storm started at 7pm (which I thought was funny cuz during the summer the sun would still be out) I remember Hot 105/Hot 107 was the default station of choice cuz they play Top 40 safe Hip-Hop and R&B (and the same exact mix show every Fri and Sat night, when I say exact I mean they put the tape in and pressed play every weekend the same mix show) but it was all we had hear other than the jukebox network LOL
I loved traveling home which I did often cuz from about Nashville, TN on down I always heard songs etc that I didnt get to hear up here in Ohio (and sadly still there are tons of songs I hear online on K-104 or the 2 Shreveport urbans KMJJ and KBTT that I dont hear on the radio here ever or even for several months here. heck if u lived here u'd think that r&b was dead LOL) anyways, I'll hit u up, man. I've been meaning to check out ur online station too, haven't had a chance to do so yet but I've heard good things about it on here :)

Thanks man! I've heard a lot of things about Hot 105/107 that I wished I would've been around for. I forget what they called 1075 then when they had urban on 1063.

Power was urban WCKX 106.3 Power 106.3 (from that dang London tower then at 3,000 watts - which was worst because WWJM New Lexington, OH. was at 106.3 then as well, I dont think their ERP was much at all but out east especially pickerington where I lived it was horrible to pick up)

WJZA 107.5 started out as an Urban AC and simply weny by "WJZA" (funny they were an Urban AC but they played some Hip-Hop tracks, I'm not sure the year they started but it was around the time California Love was out cuz I remember that was one for the 1st songs they played)

As much as I wasn't used to the Hot 105/Hot 107 combo I'd love to have it here now. to describe it best was a combo of WNCI and Power but the Hip-Hop they played was of the super safe conservative type (no Dre Day but Rumpshaker and Sweet Potato Pie all day LOL) but they were up on their SWV, Unabelievable, type tracks

Yeah, I'm familiar with those top 40/rhythmic-leaning stations. We need a new station like that here. Big Bink is officially on and sounds good, but needs to get familiar with the automation :D

yeah, I've got my sony walkman rigged at work to pick up that "powerful" Power 107 signal, I love his delivery (it reminds me of the personality styles that I"m used to back home etc. and yeah he has no producer/board operator (if they even use those anymore - I know I'm dating myself even at the ripe old age of 37 LOL) but its funny how it almost sounds like a new station, Spiderman's uncle was right, one man can make a difference LOL

His delivery is good! He does have Tessa from the PMC there to help him, but he's still learning. As far as the overall sound today, sounds a lot better.

FYI... I started my career at Hot 105. Those mix shows were live. I know because I was stuck in the studio every Fri & Sat nite watching the Vu meters and usually writing my college papers.
