New Pirate in Town

I wish I had the balls to go on the air and then post a web site!

When I operated a pirate station in 1990-1991, I was afraid to even use mail drops and re-mailers.

Being in Chicago, I knew they'd find me soon enough, even though there was no signal on 7.415 Mhz.

I remember being in Nashville, TN, and having a friend go over to my apartment and put the station on the air.
I was able to pick it up with a 20 dollar shortwave portable. It sure gave me chills to hear my own hand-built transmitter
500 miles away.

But THESE people must want a VERY short pirate career indeed, if they have phone nos. and a web site!
Too much publicity is an invite for Uncle Charlie.

It doesn't really mean anything about the websites or phone numbers. In Brooklyn NY there are over 20 pirate stations with phone numbers and websites, and have never got caught. People complained to the FCC all the time, but the FCC doesn't do anything about it.

Yes, but there are far fewer pirates here in the ATL area, in fact one was shut down last year, the one operating on 101.1 (or thereabouts) in Stone Mountain.

Also, there is an FCC field office in Gwinnett.

These guys have brass balls and will be shut down within the month, I guarantee.

Atlanta's Carribean population is growing with no radio station catering to its culture. 101.1 FM was a pirate station that played reggae music as well as the BLAZIN 98.9 pirate. I think its actually a good thing someone has the balls to cater to the Carribean folks here in ATL. Reggae and Dancehall music is a huge music format with very little media exposure. This station won't hurt WHTA nor WVEE because neither station plays reggae unless its during a mixshow.

You'd think that one of the AMs that has gone dark/flipped to Spanish would've considered going to a Caribbean format. The audience for reggae and dancehall is there.

But 94.5? That's a less than ideal frequency choice. Isn't there a J93.3 translator on that channel? Also, it's too close to comfort to both Star and Bull. 103.7 would be the best freq for a pirate in Atlanta proper.

89.3 WRFG does a lot of this kind of programming.

They are actually on the airwaves at 94.5, and in Mcdonough on the southside of town, they come through pretty clearly...(better than 96.7 or WGST)

With the pirate status, the phone numbers, and the website...They are either brave or stupid. Let me think on it a little while. :-\

i live in gwinnett and they come in strong early in the morning /////////hey guys broadcast during the day no guts no glory..................

Comes in in Gwinnett? That must mean the antenna is very high up. My guess...he's in an upper floor of one of the many tall downtown condo buildings.

I listened all the way from downtown to Douglasville this evening. Signal was pretty good out to Six Flags....noisy after that.
The music was pretty good.....too bad the FCC boys will be 'round to get em shortly.
They are doing manicures for the first five ladies tomorrow for Valentines Day at one of their sponsors.....

Yep...the FCC will shut it down. And Clear Channel marches on. @*#=~+ the FCC... #*%#^*(!_%&^

Listened to 94.5 last night going s on 285 and they were taking live calls, running in delay and had RDS information.......signal was pretty good!

Holy Crap! RDS even. Damn! Maybe they'll get HD and multicast. I hear them on 85n inside 285. There was some noise but sounded good.

does any one know what time they broadcast they are always on when i leave for work at 5am,the signal is very strong, its one thing for sure its not a whole house transmitter lolllll ;D could it be a ramsey transmitter huh,,,,,,,,,,,, ::)
