New Rock station coming to DFW?

Just asking. In the past you've complained when some Audacy stations diverged from alternative songs.
When I’ve complained about Audacy stations diverging it’s because they yanked from the pop chart. Pulling crossovers from Active Rock and Triple A is on brand for Alt, pulling from pop (instead of pop pulling from Alt) is something I find antithetical to Alt’s identity.

What is the source for Ben and Skin coming back to 97.1 to host afternoons? All I have seen is they’ve started a YouTube show since they’re no longer on the air yet still under contract.

Such as who? When Audacy went all-in on Alternative post-merger with the launches in New York, Dallas, Orlando and elsewhere the plan was to rebuild the format around Billie Eilish, Imagine Dragons and other Pop/Alt artists. iHeart pulled the rug out from under them by crossing Eilish over to pop and they lost their core artists they intended to build the brands and concerts around.

Although, from a current chart perspective, Mediabase only has two rock charts: Active Rock and Alternative.

From what I've been told that's simply because they wanted a quantifier to differentiate from Alternative Rock and Classic Rock.

Mediabase used to have Mainstream Rock alongside the others. They dropped it at the end of 2015 with rock music having become less fragmented, and reclassified the Mainstream Rock stations into either Active Rock or Classic Rock formats.

To me the term 'Active' means there's new music being added, there's a recurrent category, in other words there's 'activity' on the chart. Classic Rock stations rarely-to-never play anything new and there's not a lot of activity on that chart apart from songs slowly aging in and out, or making small moves up and down.

The primary clients for music charts are the record labels. Some music lovers complain about the shortage of new music being played by active rock stations. One reason might be the lack of record label promotion. In some formats, aggressive record promotion leads to more new music airplay. Not so in the rock format.

Woody in the mornings. Starting soon.

I just ran errands for an hour. I can't tell you how long it's been since I've been able to say I didn't hear ONE song that shouldn't be on the Eagle.

PD on Mid Days.

That makes me so happy.

Now, that's an hour - and we have some tweaking, but an entire hour is AWESOME to hear.

Ben and Skin on afternoons.

Do you have any idea how it does in ratings?

You're asking about Woody? Here's a look at how he ranked 2 years ago in LA:

At the time, he was beating KROQ. My understanding is that's no longer the case.

Last time we checked, the Kraddick Morning Show at Kiss is #1 in Dallas.

I was out of town for the flip but managed to stream it. I finally got a chance to listen to The Eagle. It sounds great. It was a good “welcome home” gift. By the way, was the launch at 10:00 on the dot? On the stream it didn’t start until about 1 after the hour.

Thanks for the info @TheBigA - It's almost impossible for me not to have heard of him, so that at least says something. I looked them up and listened to some clips. It wasn't bad. It wasn't edgy, and just your usual middle of the road iheart stuff you hear everywhere. If he comes on and blows me away, I'll be more than happy to eat crow.

I kind of don't want to lose my buzz. I listened a lot today and the music is very good. Not at ALL times, but more often than not, they're hitting it. The image is awesome. I hope they continue to use voices from the bands. EXTREMELY smart thing to do on a ROCK station.

The Eagle, a lot UNLIKE a lot of the MidWest stations you guys keep mentioning like WMMR and WMMS - has a line that's further. You can play classic rock all day in Detroit, Toledo, Cleveland, Cinci, etc. Florida is directly the opposite. In Florida, they'll listen to a full hour of brand NEW music. Here it's in the middle. People like their music hard, but they don't want too much of it to be TOO new. The music today represented that, right in the pocket.

Now, if the iHeart Media wind blows, my opinion may be completely different as soon as tomorrow . . . so. 🐸 *WEBN REFERENCE*

You mean like WJRR or WXTB? Two very different stations. WJRR seems to play more new stuff, WXTB plays less.

Both play their top currents no more than 4 times a day. Which is about the same for the other rockers.

The people in Philly don't like Woody. They think he talks to much. Anything will be an improvement over the last 18 months.

My guess is they'll take the Woody pieces and mix them with local music decisions.

I haven't heard 98 Rock in a long while, but I remember back in the day with Brad Hardin, it was incredibly hard and new.

Funny that now he's in charge of making all the classic rock decisions for Active Rock stations and it's tons of oldies.

Where in Florida? There are 4 Floridas in radio: South FM (Miami / Ft Lauderdale /Ft. Myers)), central FL (Orlando / Tampa) South Georgia ( Jacksonville, Lake City, even Gainsville / Ocala) and South Alabama (Tallahassee to Pensacola.
