New rumor

I read on another board that Dallas is supposed to be getting another urban in the spring. They are saying that one of the spanish stations is flipping with Big Boy's Neighborhood in the mornings. Personally I think it could just be Casa re-launching and putting Big Boy on in the mornings. After all, their new PD is from California, and that's where Big Boy is based out of.

Buc, I got a friend of mine on the West Coast that hipped me to the same words. Big Boy is getting pick ups and considerations all over the place. Baisden is pissed and Banks is looking over his back. Yeah, bigger rumor is ABC has been calling. All I have is a frat brother of mine in radio telling me that, so I haven't thrown that out there... but there you have it.

CASA would be great with him. Wonder what Domino thinks? ;D

V, you know Doug Banks is no longer doing mornings? His show will be an afternoon syndicated show now. I think Big Boy is taking over some of his affiliates and Steve Harvey is getting the rest.

Hey Domino, give us the scoop.

Hmmmmm......Now that would be interesting.

I've heard all kinds of stuff. The biggest rumor I heard was Liberman shopping the 106.7 frequency to ESPN Deportes. As far as Morning show changes at KZZA. Last I saw, Mean Mauri and the crew had decent numbers so unless the cost factor is an issue I wouldn't see why they would pull them off

So if not 106.7, what other spanish station would it be?.....

KFZO 99.1 perhaps? It has never caught KZZA, and Univision programs urbans in other markets (currently KBBT San Antonio, KPTY Houston, KKSS Albuquerque; used to also have KBTQ Brownsville). So, creating a Hispanic-friendly outlet like KPWR Los Angles, where Big Boy's morning show originates, or KBBT here would seem plausible.

Wouldn't the Univision cluster be the only candidate? Liberman doesn't have any non-Spanish-language outlets other ones it LMAs out like 104.9 here. Also, I don't think it uses any syndicated fare (seems to use a model of running lean with in-house people for programming) -- so creating an urban and using syndicated shows seems out of their business model.

What about that 98.3 frequency? How are they doing?

98.3 is doing so-so and if Liberman was going to dump a signal it could be that one (maybe). KZZA mornings has good numbers and they are going in the right direction so I really don't think they will dump that signal.

Liberman still own 104.9, If they were to dump a signal it should be that one. .

99.1 has the Luis Jimenez Show and that's not going anywhere. No chance on Big Boy popping up there.

To me its kind of funny that someone wants ESPN Deportes on a FM signal it won't do much on ratings. The only thing I can think of is that they want to get the Big 3's money (Cowboys, Mavs and Rangers).

If they put hip hop on 104.9, that would be suicide. First off, the signal is horrible. Second, it would be overshadowed by K104. Therefore, it wouldn't have a fighting chance. I'd rather see 106.7 or 98.3, because I just don't see Univision flipping any of their signals here to urban.

FYI...KZMP-FM 104.9 is a class C1; it has an application to move up to a class C0 and move to the site where the 94.5/100.7/103.3 rimshots are. So, at some point, its signal should be more competitive...

Maybe so, chip, but providing the application is approved KZMP will barely be a Class C0 due to contour protection toward Mexia. When it comes to building penetration, in terms of raw power they'd be at a disadvantage with 42kW compared with KSOC, for instance, which runs 96kW:

KSOC coverage: www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FM1103521.html

Of course, as I mentioned, it is going to a C0; the others are full C's. Compared to what it has now, if the application is granted, it will add 1.4 million people to its 60 dBu contour (according to the KZMP-FM application papers), which would be a marked improvement over the current over what it has now.

True, and does this market really need another shot in the arm of Soulja Boy and any random dude claiming Dirty South? How about some skilled black talk or what's that format... um... jazz, I think they call it and CBS screwed? ;)

But the rumor is one of the Spanish-language outlets will flip. With KEGL's flip, only Univision and Liberman own Spanish-language outlets. Both of those program outlets geared at Hispanics...not middle-aged blacks or suburban whites. The urban format can be an effective draw for Hispanic audiences...Univision's KBBT "98.5 the Beat" has been at the top of the ratings there since it signed on in 2000.

I still think, if the rumor is true, given the choices -- Liberman or Univision -- it will be one of the Univision stations to flip based on their histories. So, I think it means KFZO since KESS-FM isn't going anywhere and KLNO will only grow with KEGL gone. I wouldn't be surprised to see a KPTY "Party" Houston variant on KFZO.

Don't get me wrong. I would love to hear a "mixshow-friendly" to compete with 97.9, because K104 sure isn't.

Who owns 107.1? I just feel like if you're going to do hip hop, it need to be on a strong signal to compete with 97.9 and 104.

107.1 is Weak. 106.9 Overrides it. Its next to impossible to Get it in Wylie...
So if107.1 was to flip it woulnt hurt anyone... And i cant fin who owns 107.1 Because
I dont know the Calls

107.1 is Tarrant County and west only and always has been. It's probably a lot better than it used to be when it was at 106.7, but it's still going to be almost all Tarrant County. I used to live at Hulen and Vickery, and I could hear the old KCYT 106.7 just fine on my home stereo. However, I didn't have that much luck with it on my Walkman and clock radio. The car radio got it fine, too, but it was gone well before I ever got to work at Park Row and Bowen in Arlington. The station was never really my cup of tea, though I did occasionally listen to both the standards format and the KMRT-FM Amor simulcast from 1480.

107.1 is now Estero Latino owned by Univision. Has been since they bought it and it was on 106.7. The funny thing about the history of it and what is now 106.7. When Entravision bought 106.5 to move it in they got Unvision to move to 107.1 and they would move to 106.7. To allow that Entravision wasn't allowed to do Spanish so hence KKDL 106.7 and know Casa. Estero Latino signal is a Tarrant county signal and I believe allows Univision to sell advertising at a much cheaper price to get the "lower hanging fruit" of business thats out there. While KESS FM and KLNO are a bit more higher priced. As far as 104.9 Liberman is leasing it so its generating cash flow with no out going expences. If I had the cash and were to change the format of 106.7 I would try Jazz and improve on the opportunity lost by CBS.
