New station on 103.9 FM ?

The past couple of nights I've heard religious programming on 103.9 in the Donelson area when driving to work. It sounds local and clear as a bell. Is this a new station?

If it is, it's not legal..... (or it's DX)

I just double-checked on the FCC website, there are no permits or licenses for 103.9 within 50km of the Channel 4 tower in West Nashville. (used only because I know the geographic coordinates by heart...)

103.9 seems to be a popular place for pirates around here. I've got to go over by the airport after work tonight, will take a listen.

I know this is slightly off topic but has the 105.5 translator changed ownership I've heard k-love for 2 days now and there aren't any full stations broadcasting klove on 105.5 on this side of the Rockies.

The K-Love affiliate you heard on 105.5 was actually out of Millington, TN in the Memphis suburbs. I picked it up last Sunday for almost 2 hours before CSN kicked back in.

I was in the Elm Hill Pike/Briley Parkway area to the west (going towards downtown) in case that helps.

When I first came to Nashville all those years ago, I was told there were two missing frequencies in this market: 97.1 and 103.9. Since then, we've watched 97.1 come to life (some would say "life" is debatable!), but the closest I've seen anything happen at 103.9 was Brentwood Baptist's use of the freq for awhile. Maybe a church close to Elm Hill and Briley now uses it?

103.9 is the frequency that WNSR had planned to use for their FM drop-in...
from Drakesboro, KY...via the WUBT tower in Cross Plains. numbers just didn't add up...

I could have told them in 20 seconds that wouldn't work.....

The 70dBu contour of a full-facility Class A FM station extends a bit over 16km - about ten miles.

The WUBT tower is a whole lot further than ten miles from Drakesboro! (a quick estimate is about 50 miles.....)

The Drakesboro station *was* built. It seems to operate a few days a year with a variety of programming - sometimes simulcasting WNSR, sometimes with different music formats.

The last several trips up The Pennyrile, Drakesboro has been OFF THE AIR....

So? No LPFM or FMT or such listed? Would be fun to trace this one in the next day or two, as I go to Church up in Donelson... Radio-CSI (Communication Sleuth Investigator)...Coming to a cable channel near you? Mix that format with "Cheaters" and it would a comedy... ;D

Yep, Drakesboro is off a LOT more than it's on...

Nope, no LPFMs or translators. There are a few applications for new translators on file, but the FCC hasn't acted on them yet.

103.9 is not usable for a LPFM in Nashville (yet). 600KHz separation from full-power stations is still not permitted. That's not met with regard to WKDF and The Zone. (ironically, 400KHz separation is allowed; that's why WRFN was allowed to move from 98.9 to 107.1...)

Yeah the FMT rules allow the closer 'squeeze'.. "Tempted by the fruit of another... Tempted but the truth is discoverd... What's been goin' on... Since you've been gone... There's no other, to be tempted by the fruit of another... Tempted but the truth is uncovered..." Love that song....

I just dropped my girlfriend off at her house between donelson pike, mcgavock pike, and lebanon road. The 103.9 signal was very strong there. Almost as if it was coming from the 99.3 tower site behind the old Castner Knott (Ace) building. It definitely isn't a dinky Ramsey kit, as I can still pull it in on my kitchen radio here in Old Hickory Village.

if 103.9 was on Wednesday, it doesn't carry very far: I listened along Elm Hill from Fesslers
all the way east to Bell Road out by the lake...nothing but occasional splatter from WUCZ.
I'll cruise past Donelson Plaza on the way in...

I don't believe it was on this morning. If it was, it wasn't near as strong as at night because all I heard this morning in OH was static and WUCZ bleed as well.

I drove Lebanon Road into downtown from Stewart's Ferry...nothing on 103.9
Froggy 103.7 from Murray...WUCZ on 104.1...nothing else.

I was driving near Summit Medical Center around 9:30 p.m. and heard religious programming from the BOTT radio network on 103.9. There was even a local weather update for the Nashville area. I thought 98.7 was BOTT's Nashville translator.

Bleed or broadbanding from a out of wack xmitter? Humm.. You're in the area for 1160.. They have their outlet up there on that end of town??

It was coming in really strong on 103.9, not 103.7 or 104.1

same thing Friday night @ 8:30pm...103.9 simulcasting 1160..and no sign of anything on ther usual 98.7:
legal or not (I'm guessing paperwor just hasn't been posted)...Bott has moved their night-time "Cuban Interference Protection"
signal from 98.7 to 103.9. I bet WANT is pleased...and bet that Bill Barry is involved...that's why I think it's legal.
