New station on 103.9 FM ?

I noticed awhile ago that WANT has a CP for a location closer to Nashville with more power. Maybe that's relevant. I never understood how 98.7 was even possible. WHOP has a fairly strong signal in Hermitage, yet is obliterated (obviously) by WAMB. Bad news for Part 15 people, like myself, that use 103.9!

WHOP's protected contour extends 63km, about 40 miles. The 40dBu F(50.10) interfering contour of WCRT-FM1 extends 29km. The two stations are 113km apart -- so they meet the rules by about 6-7 miles.

I wonder what would happen if someone filed to move a LPFM to 103.9?

I'd think 94.9 would be a decent choice for Part 15 operation.

I was driving near Summit Medical Center around 9:30 p.m. and heard religious programming from the BOTT radio network on 103.9. There was even a local weather update for the Nashville area. I thought 98.7 was BOTT's Nashville translator.

Bott applied to move WCRT's translator from 98.7 to 103.9 in February, and that's almost certainly what you were hearing. Here's the application: https://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/w...t=25&appn=101344503&formid=911&fac_num=166220. Check out Exhibit and Attachment 32.

I can't speak for 94.9 on the west side of town, but on the east side 95.1 WGGC and especially 94.7 WGSQ are strong. Stronger than WPRT and 93.7 in many spots. I think WHOP is one of those signals that gets out better than it's listed on paper. WCVQ seems to be the opposite.

On the west side it's pretty open. I mean, WGGC is plenty loud (WGSQ a bit less so) but not loud enough to "spill over" into any decent 94.9 signal.

92.5 in Owensboro definitely falls into the "gets out better than it's listed on paper" category.

The FCC's propagation curves are based on a few assumptions. Two of which are flat terrain and a receiving antenna 30 feet high. Around here, neither assumption is reasonable!

Yes, 92.5's signal is ridiculous. Speaking of WANT, I've known they do R & B on Friday and Saturday nights with "Fantastic Fred" (if you've never listened it's definitely different), but tonight I noticed they were doing hits from the 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's. It was good stuff. Buddy Holly to Billy Idol. It was nice to hear much of that on the radio again locally (WKOM comes in rarely). I like listening to their normal music format, as they're an FM version of 650, but have often wondered why they choose country when there's 6 FM country stations covering Wilson county. For those that feel oldies won't bring in the doe on a Nashville station, what are the thoughts on "Oldies 98.9" ? Especially now that it seems 98.7 is out of their way. It's rare they make the Nashville books since there are 3 stronger country stations, but if people found an "oldies fix" would they tune in? (I sure as heck would). Obviously the signal is sub-par in western metro, yet have translators in the boro if I'm not mistaken.

It must be a lot easier to get approval to get a translator moved. WTRO in Dyersburg has moved their FM translator twice in the past couple of years. It was originally on 102.5, then 102.1, and now 101.7. I wish they had stayed on one of the other frequencies. On either of the first two there was no problem with interference from another station where I live in Alamo, but on 101.7 there is also a K-LOVE translator in Brownsville, and the two battle over which will come in. I think WTRO's last move was a bad one. K-LOVE was there first, and WTRO should have stayed on one of the other frequencies or picked another one to move to.

Used to, but those translators (at 101.9 and 100.5) currently simulcast WGNS AM 1450.

WANT covers Murfreesboro quite well, actually.

To answer your question, it will never happen. First, 98.9/1490 are a heritage country simulcast in Wilson County. Second, There's no money to do it. If our owner "had" money, I wouldn't be a seasonal employee! (Lebanon HS football postgame out of town score wrangler/Lebanon HS basketball statistician) Besides, if it was up to me, it would be an all sports station, with this lineup: 2 local hacks in the mornings 6 to 11 am, all three hours of Jim Rome 11 am to 2 pm, 1 local hack afternoons 2 to 6 pm, 2 local hacks with an evening show 6 pm to midnight, 1 local hack overnights 12 to 6 am.

Semi-dumb question...

Since both translators are on the same tower... why relay WGNS on *both* of them??

"Since both translators are on the same tower... why relay WGNS on *both* of them??"

Good question - what a waste of a frequency. I'm surprised WPRT hasn't tried to get 101.9. I had forgotten WANT didn't use 100.5 anymore.

Because they can do that and keep another AM from having 'Ola on one...

By the way.. 103.9 is operating as a 'dusk to dawn' supplier of 1160 (Bott).. They must have an STA or something like Berry had in his old WAMB days... Anyone found documentation on it? Bott is very old school conservative and I could not see them doing anything close to going over the guidelines...

Thanks Romer.. It won't open.. FCC said it can't be viewed.. Must mean the Big Guy Above and All around us is in talks directly with the little Gods of the airwaves.. ;D Sounds clean and could get it from Cool Springs in, from the south...

Skipper...the FCC site in condensed form showed Bott moving from 98.7 to 103.9
because of WANT'S CP to move furher west...which would have caused 98.7 to cease.

It the same STA they had as WAMB, just amended for a different frequency. (not very "T", it's been active for more than ten years!) It's 100% above board. (OK, 99.999% -- I have heard the thing on the air during the day, but only twice in ten years...)

Thanks.. I knew BOTT would never go around the rules.. That's for sure.. And for 98.9's allocation, I am happy they can maximize their efforts.. Any owner wants to get the max out of the allocation...
