New subchannel for WFAA

Verizon FIOS and DishNetwork do not carry any of WFAA's subchannels which is why I have OTA too. No idea if TWC does and I would be shocked if DirecTV did.

Time Warner carries This TV(WFAA 8.3) on its systems in D/FW. They also carry 8.2, KXAS 5.2 and 5.3

So, in theory this channel debuts on Monday. Can't find anything about it on wfaa.com. Just wondering if anyone has heard anything?

Can someone check if This TV perhaps got moved to 52-2? Not sure about it, just wondering.

- Trip

The "thistv" website (http://dallas.thistv.com/) does indeed show K31GL 31.3 as its affiliate here.

I have not been able to check to see if it's there yet, but that might also explain why 31.5 showed up a few days ago. Perhaps 31.5 is where they'll move "HOT-TV."

This TV is not as good as it could be, but it's pretty decent. I'm glad we're not losing it.

Trip --

The 13 kW flamethrower is still simulcasting 52-1 on its 52-2 subchannel in standard def. In this thread, it appears that ThisTV will be on K31GL's 31-3 subchannel.

8.3 is currently 480i 16:9

At least now we know how they dealt with the bandwidth issue: they simply downconverted to 480i!

Actually 8.3 isn't 16:9; the PSIP info says 4:3, but the 16:9 broadcast I saw was "squeezed" rather than being cropped or letterboxed, which produced an "Avatar" effect (everyone looked 10 feet tall).

In contrast, 8.2 is 480i 16:9, and one can choose cropped, letterboxed, or Avatar from a typical converter box according to taste.

Speaking of 8.2, it looks like they revamped the format and did away with the mini-windows. I still prefer 5.2, though.

What I see is 16:9 on both 8.2 and 8.3. I also see the standard format on 8.2 with the mini-windows.

Maybe they changed it back. I'll look again tonight.

I sent an Email to WFAA asking where This TV is moving, guess what, its not staying on 31.3, looks like WFAA forgot that WB closed shop though ;)
Thank you for writing.

Effective on December 6, 2010, This TV Network will be airing on KDAF/ WB33 /Channel 33.3.

Let us know if we can be of additional assistance.

Best regards,

I strongly suspect the person at WFAA does not know that K31GL exists. This person probably thought when they heard "31.3" that whoever told them that must have meant "33.3"

Kind of sad that they don't know more about the business they are in However, it probably does explain when we'll see This TV hit 31.3.

Sure enough, they did change it back. 8.2 has the mini-windows again and 8.3 is back to 16:9. But I swear both were as I described them last night!

As of tonight 31.3 is still Hot TV and 31.5 is still blank. December 6 will be a long time to wait for the return of This TV!

So KDAF will pick up This TV on 33.3 next month as well as Antenna TV on 33.2 at the beginning of next year? Glad to hear this. Now if RTV could move over to a full power station, but 31.4 will do.
