New Talk Radio in Town

scmidlapp said:
That's all good and well, but can you name me ONE local talk show host who is not already on WILK?
I can't think of one. If they hadn't cut Paula Deignan loose she would probably have been able to do a pretty good job, but aside from her who else can you think of?? Rob Neyhard? Is he even interested? There are a lot of good unemployed radio people floating around the area but none of them could really be considered a talk show host.

Huh? Kevin, Nancy and Steve were NOT even conventional "broadcasters" before becoming talk show hosts.

I'm sure some of the heavy brass at 94.3 is saying if Imus doesn't do well in the ratings in the first 2 books, they can dump his show and make the change. Unfortunately, too little too late! The harm is already done. They are hoping out of their pockets that Imus is enough to make a difference in the ratings to save money! A local news/talk team that takes calls from their listeners on issues in their coverage area plus traffic reports and breaking news would do much better than trying to hope for the best from someone who is syndicated and past his prime!

Webster, Rock107 comes to mind. Rumors swirling for months that he's looking to bail for a talk show which until now had to have been at WILK or nothing.

But he's been there forever and has to be making a decent piece of change so could they afford him? Still it'd be a good show. Throw Rock107s Ruth Miller in there with him and watch out Nancy and Kevin.

Imus in the Morning has become more of a news/talk show anyway. It is much different now from the shock-jock Imus days.

That is, when it's not busy being a Fox Business Network shill...

It appears 94.3 will sacrifice morning drive and noon to 3 in hopes of doing well elsewhere...

Sacrificing Noon-3? Laura Ingraham is not a shock-jock and she is one of the top talk radio hosts in America...

True, but when you think about it, Laura's show will be a tape-delayed roadblock in the middle of an otherwise all-live, all-syndicated lineup.

Kevin, Nancy & Steve may not have been conventional broadcasters but they were people who were known to have opinions on things, and they were very vocal in whatever media with those opinions. Corbett had his newspaper column and Kevin had been bouncing from TV station to radio station for years. Outside of Webster can you think of one person locally who could handle a three hour talkfest? Radio or otherwise? I can't...and I don't think the heads at Bold Gold could either. They probably thought of Webster but figured they couldn't meet his salary requirements. Going all national is the best move for them. Why put someone untried, unknown or both at the front?

Operators going all syndicated are being pennywise, pound foolish. Entertaining, compelling local talent (especially in AM Drive) will bring in endorsements $$$. You'll get to profitability quicker instead of just filling local avails during syndicated programming. I worked with a guy who more than doubled his income because of endoresements (well into the six figures).

According to your "requirements" Mike McGlynn from the voice would be an excellent host...Of course, the prospector on Rock 107 does a weekly rant, maybe that can fill 4 hours a day 5 days a week....

What's the problem? The River is still on 94.3. AM 730 and 1440 are still dark. Bold Gold seems surprised the sale actually cleared.

From Facebook:
