New Talk Station

Tried to listen last nite from near ASU, could barely hear it, same Don and Kim.

Listening to Culinary Confessions today with Kim and Don, I noticed that the show sounds much better on the Lumberyard than 96.1 FM. This is surprising to me because I believe an FM station should sound better than any AM station, but Culinary Confessions on 1440 AM sounds louder, richer and more vibrant than on 96.1 FM. I know this is due to the fact that the show is run out of Sandusky's studios and piped straight to the 1440 transmitter, but it's interesting to see in this day and age an AM station like the Lumberyard that sounds better than an FM station.

Sandusky engineers do a really good job of making the talk shows and music on the Goldmine sound fantastic (except for the times when the Miner 49er's go on strike!) ;D Arguably, the Lumberyard sounds better than the distorted sound I get out of my subscription-paid satellite radio! :p

The audio on 12~Sixty even sounds better than 96~One! Why they're using a stereo generator on that weak FM signal remains a mystery..just adds to the noise. Guess the thinking behind the AM/FM simulcast is two crappy signals equal one!

It's 8pm and 1260/96.1 is airing Roger Hedgecock. I thought Jeffry said he didn't want to do talking-points and blame-game talk. Yawn.

Turn the tables, Eric. Call up Jeffry and yell at him! ;D

There are conservative hosts that are worth the listen (Neal Boortz and Dennis Miller, especially when the latter doesn't have the usual talking-point guests on, for example), but Roger Hedgecock makes Lars Larson's Pacific Northwest-centric show sound like quality radio.

I've only heard bits of the station when I can get it, at my office, in my building it doesn't penetrate the walls, and at home at night its a no go.

I'm glad there is another station and applaud Jeffry for getting it done.

That said, the morning show is pretty lame. Its gentle midwestern humor, seriously..yooper jokes? I just can't see the audience here in town...maybe when hoards of 75 year old snow birds breach our border, but its like a bunch of Minnesotans reading the jokes from Reader's Digest. About as edgy as a marshmellow.

It could be worse. They could be running Bob & Sheri.

Dear god...Bob & Sheri...I had forgotten just how bad radio could be...

...anyone know what time Person To Person is on? And we'll bet Phil Hendrie is so glad to be back on Phoenix Apache Junction radio!

The way Phil Hendrie is going, he will be happy to get a job as a Wal Mart greeter. He is a complete bastard.

Is person to person better than coast to coast?

Matt Gerson is better than George Noory. Question answered by Los Buckeye Boyz ;D

Update...they did shut off the stereo pilot on the 96.1 translator, and I do admit that it has better reception after they did so. However, this didn't happen to improve their programming.

I'm going to check out this station. I suddenly need something interesting that I like to listen to between 7 and 10pm when I don't feel like listening to music.
