New Time for The Lost 45's

Re: New Time for The Lost 45s 7 to Midnight, 5 hours!

Charlie Dore was great! Not only did she talk about her international hit "Pilot Of The Airwaves" and the Top 10 she wrote for Sheena Easton ("Strut") she also named a song of hers that George Harrison's widow played for her...which George recorded before he died. His widow, Olivia, wants to keep it private, so it will most likely never be heard, but a great story nonetheless!

Duh. I just read the comment on how "The Lost 45s" has become a 'bore' for one board member :)

I am so sorry! Thanks for the constructive criticism. I will use it wisely and wonder if you work at all in radio, lol. It takes 40 hours per week to produce and create that boring show. Go listen to your Beatles collection again...perhaps The Partdridge Family were too cool for you!

Always having fun and thankfully still doing it,

I really enjoyed the Mary Weiss interview and the music as well! :D

I am happy to be hearing you play more 80's titles also. :)

Thanks Barry!

Re: New Time for The Lost 45s 7 to Midnight, 5 hours!

Thanks! Glad you liked it.

Mary Weiss of the Shangri-Las told us so much...I knew Billy Joel played piano on some of their songs, but never knew one of their charted hits was about rape. Now, the song makes sense!

This Sunday is Al Jarreau and he's just plain fun when talking about his hits, including the Theme from Moonlighting! Then, it's Chuck Mangione, The Manhattan Transfer and Mark Hudson of The Hudson Brothers (and writer of hits for Aerosmith much later).

Re: New Time for The Lost 45s 7 to Midnight, 5 hours! Sundays.

Any of you heard the Elvis/Lisa Marie Presley 'duet' of "Don't Cry Daddy" that she did at a live concert (a la Natalie and Nat King Cole)? Very interesting. I'll play it this Sunday in honor of her 41st birthday, gulp. She's no Elvis...

I think I heard it once on Jay Gordon's "Elvis Only" show.

Re: New Time for The Lost 45s 7 to Midnight, 5 hours! Sundays.

Good place for it!

Should a request for "My Ding-a-Ling" by Chuck Berry be a part of our "Body Parts" box set??

It's something to ponder.

Sure, why not? I still think it's too bad that was his only #1 hit, though, after none of his groundbreaking 1950s hits got to the very top of the chart.

Many people think Berry wrote the song (he certainly embellished it in his version), but the original version goes back to Dave Bartholomew (Fats Domino's bandleader) in 1952, and there was a cover version by R&B group The Bees in 1954 with the title "Toy Bell".

Re: New Time for The Lost 45s 7 to Midnight, 5 hours! Sundays.

But "Toy Bell" and "My Tambourine" (its second title) aren't body parts!

"Little Willy" by The Sweet also fits...but, the FCC might be listening and we aren't adults any longer.

not to get too far off topic but wasn't Cindy Laupers "She Bop" about self gratification?

And I heard once that the group 10CC's name was a reference to the average amount of male ejaculate.

Any truth to that Barry?

Re: New Time for The Lost 45s 7 to Midnight, 5 hours! Sundays.

I wouldn't say I am an 'expert' on this subject, but yes, both facts are true. Back in the day, before Bush, Janet Jackson and the FCC's stupidity...we actually used to be able to say these facts on the air.

I do miss America. (That's a Mark Lindsay single).

I've been catching Casey Kasem's show a lot lately, and I did not realize just how big some of the songs were that you play on your show Barry, good stuff! 8)

What planet are you one? I know it's very fashionable to blame Bush for everything......but, you think that sexual talk was more tolerated by the FCC in the 70's & 80's? These were the days when a licensee's "fitness" to hold a license was always an issue.

We have more sexual talk on the air now than ever before, and the FCC only started marking a line in the sand when Stern decided there was no line.

But the FCC was much more of an authority in their earlier days than they were post-Bush.

BTW...you could STILL talk about the Cindi Lauper and 10CC issue today on the radio without an FCC problem...that is if your station management allows it. There is no "Bush-effect" in that regard.

Hard to disagree with that.

The Bush FCC passed a reg about repeating 10cc urban legends? And who can forget the Bush prohibition on discussing the lyrics of 20 year old pop singles.

What planet are you one?

Never underestimate the reality-changing properties of BDS.

Just wondering, but what else could it possible have been about? Glaucoma? I've also heard that the song White Rabbit is about drug use, but don't quote me on that.

And I heard once that the group 10CC's name was a reference to the average amount of male ejaculate.

According to the folks actually involved, the 10cc story is a myth.

The Lost 45s with Barry Scott new time, 7 to Midnight Eastern!

According to Graham Gouldman of 10cc their naming rumour is fact...And yes, I used to be able to say that "Little Willie" by The Sweet (changed to the name "Willy" here in its 2nd month on Billboard, when America realized what a "Willie" was in the UK) was about an erection, but since Janet Jackson's breast baring, I can not. Unless it is a commercial for Viagra, since they pay cash to say the word. Go figure. Either way, it is great fun getting zipping around the subject, or unzipping. Oh, forget it, it is too hard. lol.

According to Jonathan King, who actually signed and named them, and band member Eric Stewart, it is a myth (plus being non-sensical in a physiological way.)

Re: New Time for The Lost 45s 7 to Midnight, 5 hours! Sundays.

I learned a long time ago not to contradict anyone on this board, lol.

I take my job seriously but the business is all in good fun to me. It ain't rocket science, despite what many think. I refuse to let the fun be taken out of it for me by anyone.

Enjoy!
