New TN Purchase

Ok Hartsville! Gallitan, Hartsville, Nashville.....close enough.

Really like to see some original thoughts concerning Ardmore and what you would do with it. I've already made a decision, but it sure would have been nice to see someone do some research online, and throw out an idea or two.

Oh well!

I haven't thought much about WSLV lately. A friend briefly looked into it a year or two ago...

But, whatever you did.. I think there'd have to be a heavy, heavy dose of local programming... maybe something kinda full service, with local news, sports, and music.

Sorry I can't think of much else right now..

With a pure daytimer, sports would be a challenge on DWSLV. You can make some money, but not as good as having a few watts at night.

Man, I saw the condition of the 1110 AM tower when going to a ball game at UAH a few weekends back.. The thing was 'bent' in the middle and looked to be structuraly unsound! Someone save this decent signal that is not reaching it's full potiential on the boarder of AL/TN....

Can anyone takepictures of the tower and email me?? walkerbroadcasting(at)gmail(dot)com

Guys, if WSLV were yours, what would you do with it?

We're conducting research now. But I'm always open to ideas, and getting a strong stream going on this the Tennessee board.

Fire away!
Lash... I am free again at 48 with a load of experience in every aspect of radio (sales, gm, om, pd, md, jock and sbe-member-ENG)... Developed new non-coms for the Way-Fm group in Florida-Tennessee-Alabama and another group in Ohio.. Now an assistant athletic director at a NCAA-II school, doing ENG for a few stations and programming a couple of LPFM's to keep in touch with radio.... I do play-by-play and with no strings or kids, I would love to turn a station like this around.. I've been looking at dark AM/FM's and see a few I'd love to market.. I know Huntsville well and see a HOLE that is big enough for a niche with 35 to 65 year olds.. I am not going to spill my beans on the table.. If you take four capable folks willing to do multi-tasking (air/sales/production/production, etc)... This thing could be a nice living for an owner and some folk who love radio, no matter the market size.... I am looking at a throw away, right now... The one thing I would share is this....PROCESSING, TRANSMISSION, INTERNET and a five to ten year 'down the road' look at "HD" if it pans out and becomes afordable in smaller operations... [email protected] (WAY-FM, KINT-98, WGBF, WCIL-FM, KGMO-AM/FM, WRTB-FM, KYMO, RADIO-U and others in a 30 year history..)...

So it's dark and can't be brought back with a 'filing window'.. Not a good sign.. I thought their critical hours were also post sunset?? I guess not.. I at this juncture would not see it worth looking at.. I see other dark and still licensed facilities more worthy....

Classic Country seems to be a fairly hot format right now. Playlist should never get stale because you would have 4-5 decades to choose from. FromJim Reeves to early Garth Brooks. I thought this would be a great format a good number of years ago before anyone was doing it. When statons stopped playing Conway Twitty on a regular basis....I said to myself " There's a great opportunity here".

Station is day only with no chance of reasonable night power as i understand. Three other bad things: Too close to huntsville. Facilities are in bad shape. Will have to miss out on most of night sports revenue. Will be tough hill to get over, walk away or run if you can.
If not then good luck.

Ernie Ashworth never owned 1560! LET'S GET THAT S*** CLEAR!

Me and Erine were in a FCC battle in 1991-92, when my dad and I bought the property that formerly housed WAMG-AM, Ernie was forced to put up a tower site, which is located on Old Douglas Rd, just outside the city limits of Gallatin, between my station and 1010 WHIN, in 1995. He changed the calls from WAMG to WYXE.

WHIN-AM 1010 has been owned by Jack Williams and Skip Sparkman since 1984. Jack and Skip have interest in WANT-FM, 98.9 in Lebanon, TN, along with Susie Bay.

1560 was licensed to Lindsay Christian Broadcasting, and Faye Lindsay the licensee of WWGM transfer the licensed to me. I filed a Construction Permit to move to WWGM from Nashville to Gallatin and I utlized the former WAMG facility, which still exsist today. Ernie was forced to find another tower site for WYXE because I owned the licensed facility.

Paul Walker, Get Your facts STRAIGHT before you get on here or any other broadcast list making commets about me, my father, and 1560 WMRO. The facts are on the FCC's CDBS data base, where me and my father filed the applications to do what we did to obtain WWGM.

I grew up in Gallatin, Tennessee, and if anybody knows the history of Gallatin Radio, it's me and Jack Williams!

Unfortunalty, My Father passed away this past Friday 2/9/07. So sorry if I'm in a crabby mood folks.

Scott Bailey
President/General Manager
WMRO-AM 1560
Gallatin, TN

SCOTT:

CALM THE F**K DOWN! I never once claimed to know ANYTHING about radio in the tiny lil town of Gallatin! Secondly, I never tried and claim Ernie Ashworth ever owned 1560AM.

THIRDLY.. I NEVER mentioned your father in my post. Don't believe me? Go back and READ it, AGAIN!

I was simply posing a question and mentioned the 3 frequencies I know of in Gallatin.

Sorry that I ruffled your feathers. I'm truly sorry for your loss, but DON'T take it out on me....

Paul Walker

Scott? I'm very sorry to hear about your dad. I'll email you shortly.

Skipper? We know each other, as both of us are old WAY FM/CHRSN guys, and have spent some time talking.

You guys are wrong on the tower, as its recently been inspected and painted.

The one I saw was an older on south of the state road on the Tennessee side of the border.. (I guess an old one with AM insulators)... On the Way.. YES! I was Bob's first hire in 1987 (Ft.Myers, Cape Coral, Naples)... I came to Nashville as the project coordinator in 1991 and worked at Oldies 96.3 while building out and fundraising for WAY-FM's station in middle TN... Sitting here, a single guy again with a CP on the non-com, trying to upgrade, and wondering what to do in my mid 40's??? Nothing pays well in the old small/middle sized regional markets, anymore... I am play by play for one high school and the university I work at, as assistant athletic director... BORED... Where in the heck can a 30 year vet find enough to pay bills and survive... I have gone backwards since returning the home market.... Scratching my head???

Scott..sorry for your loss.

Skipper..just sent you an email. I hear you, friend!

Here's the scoop... A Class "A" that is in the process of working with another group to go Class "C3"... We've got 25k into it, over the seven years we've waited for it and we are one year into the "CP"... My Father-In-Law has put up the cash and we want to get it back to him and then he can leave the board.. My Wife and I are parting ways (Friendly and no kids) after 10 years and we want to make sure it's in a solid Christian group's hands (that offers a format not in the market or limited)...

Chris,

I've been listening online to WWON this afternoon..nice to hear you on the air!

Lots of local spots in the last stopset..

If you are looking for anymore stations, there's a silent one in Tallahassee that needs lots of TLC. You
can email me for more specifics (address in my profile)

I occasionally get up to Madisonville, TN but am not familier with Ardmore. I would have thought
WSLV would have done decently with country and/or classic country..

Its my udnerstanding you can try and get it into the hands of a good christian group, but to dictate what they program would be against the law.

Paul.. To clarify.... We have been in contact with groups interested in LMA'ing it for the four year requirement under our CP and future license... Whoever gets it (Way or anyone) can program it, as they please... I am very aware of the rules and I would not even think of that relm... The board is going to exist with our corporate structure and we will be responsible for the license of whoever gets that lease.. I should have held that a little closer to the hip... I did this with Family Radio and Spirit Communications back in the development of WUFM in 1995-96, when I was the GM in Columbus... Spirit actually LMA'd the opening phase and the got it from Family... Standard proceedure...
