New to Seattle Boards and Radio. Some observations from a new poster:
1. Not much change in Seattle radio ratings in last couple of years. Very stable 6a-7p 25-54 in Seattle in men and women demos. KISW top dog for men along with KZOK. KPLZ top dog for women with KQMV and KRWM in second.
KKWF is top country station but goes up and down. Very strong local Christian station in KCMS and AC station in KRWM especially in fall and Christmas.
very stable successful stations in Seattle!!!
2. Really good morning shows in Seattle. Bob Rivers, Danny B and BJ Shea really outperform their stations and win on the male side. Kent and Allen outperforms station and very strong on the female side, surprising strength with 18-34 women. Good CHR show on KQMV though underperforms station a bit. very stable successful morning shows in Seattle!!!
3. New Entercom KHTP and Clear Channel KYNW are only two changes this year in market that i see KYNW appears to be over after a one share start. KHTP launching well, but probably not a long-term format. Seen these before in other markets, make a splash for six months and then go away. Basically Burns movin ac brand. Didn't seattle do this once before with movin KQMV was it CHR from the start? not a ton of change for a market this size and not much room for new stations
4. Only two real openings in the market in formats. No AAA, i mean real AAA, like Cities Fm. No Pure Rock station that is music focused inbetween KISW and KZOK where you hear a lot of talk 6a-7p. Market is pretty full. Would think stations like KLCK, KBKS, KUBE, KCMQ, KNDD that seem troubled might look at these openings.
5. Too many news talk and sports stations i counted about 10. how does anyone here keep track? tough time for news talk right now but next election they might do better. lots to choose from if you like spoken word along with npr.
market is so strong that these boards are filled with talk about out of town frequencies, kokomo and tv. funny sometimes boring reading. Seattle radio is pretty cool from an outsider just comiing in compared to most top 30 markets. lots more good going on here than bad. Local radio folk should get out of town for a while and see what the real world is like.
random thoughts from reading these boards and listening in town. Nice to be in seattle.
