new website, new format for 1079 indy?

Sounds like they are thinking outside the box. I will bet they will do well. it might not be the same ol hum drum radio that we are used to listening to. Bes tof luck to them.

Yes they could have an easy 5 share with oldies, but they don't want that 5 share. Is that a wise decision? They are the ones who have to sell whatever audience they have, so it's of course up to them. If this is hot ac, won't that compete with sister station wzpl?

Outside the Box?? C'MON they've COPIED A JACK FORMAT THAT IS ALREADY IN THE MARKET!
the music (although slightly different, is still a mish-mash of Crap that has something everybody can hate)...
the ONLY thing they've accomplished is bringing another Juke-Box to Indianapolis, with NO-Human contact whatsoever.
which i'm sure was their goal... PAY NO ONE....

This is More like Jack before Cumulus took WJJK to classic Hits/Rock

Yes, sounds just like JACK. Banking on PPM to get ratings. They won't pay anyone. That's why they got rid of air staff and DOS (who took the knife for Track GSM and Sands' lack of attention to product and accountability).

I'm not sure I see a sound PPM strategy here - sure, the Jack format seems to be performing ok in current PPM markets - although I think these successful stations are less about playing anything and everything, and more mainstream classic hits/classic rock formats. WJJK is. I'm also not sure MY isn't approaching this a bit differently. If, in fact, they're going for an interactive format, driven by listener requests [call in, on line, etc] it would seem this would not cume as well, and be more prone to TSL will a smaller cume audience. After all, depending on just how interactive the station is, how driven by requests, how wide the music selection is [which they say they want], it would seem to lead to a lot of obscure selections along the way that would super serve fewer listeners, and actually drive sampling away. ???

Don't think Scott Roddy ever did any imaging on WLHK. He may have voiced a commercial or two but that's it.

Saying you take requests and actually playing them are two different things. It's easy enough to pick and choose the requests you were going to play anyway. It's always worked that way.

No, that's not what I'm talking about. The imaging voice is, I believe Cam "Buzz" Brainard from L.A., and it sounds exactly like the imaging on Hank. Shouldn't Emmis have a market exclusive contract on this voice?

So far I like the music, but being a jukebox isn't going to get you anywhere. It's been tried with Jack at Susquehanna. What would make this work is local content. Some compelling personalities, promotions, and marketing. Surely they're planning on adding some personality to this. I'm not much of a fan of the "jockless launch."

True. I called in a request two days ago and I haven't heard it played yet. Don't get me wrong I love the music they're playing, I've always been a fan of 80's/90's pop. I just don't see how this is any better than the track. The only thing I can see they got out of this was the excuse to get rid of the jocks.
107.9 won't be the same without J.C. on Saturday nights though. :(

giving the station a listen its not all that bad, but they need more Rock and dance music like Gen X 100.5 in Louisville. I never mentioned it much, but I had a strong feeling that this was gonna be the format, its just not what I hoped for.. They need to play all the 80s and 90s chr hits, not just the hot ac stuff, its like WENS Reincarnated.

Apparently, these formats have been successful in several Entercom PPM markets. PPM arrives in the fall. That's a long time to cross your fingers for a format winner leading to revenue growth.

I know instant results are the norm these days and no one has the patience to allow a new station to grow an audience, but you have to expect the good folks at Entercom can wait eight or nine months for the start of PPM, can't you? In reality, I suspect they know good and well what to expect in the short term and are banking on just that - building to the rollout of PPM. We'll just have to debate the thing until measurable results are available (which does NOT include a horribly outdated Arbitron diary system.)

And any station that will give me Sly and the Family Stone, the Scorpions and Dave Matthews in the same hour has, at the very least, my attention. I know the novelty will wear off eventually, but I love coming back to my computer and seeing what they've played. I used to think I was jaded, I guess I was just bored. My only complaint is the lack of local content and from what I've heard the mandate is no jocks period, "Jack" style. Who can argue with that formula, though, with a tough economy in an overloaded radio market (arent' they all?) - save the bucks where you can. But they could at least get cracking with the local in other ways. Other than that, I'll keep listening.

I would be very surprised if they waited. Have heard that station revenue is well below the market and getting worse.

They're local.

Heard a liner last night.
"Coach Jim Caldwell thinks we should rest our best songs. So here's one from the bench. My 107.9". Think they played "I'm a Barbie Girl" after that.

Sounds like something Sands would write.

and unfortunately it's the only ONLY localized liner I've heard. I'm sure more is coming, but I really hate the idea that this wasn't ready to go at the launch. Guess they're relying on the request aspect to make it "local" - some of our online stations are far more local (indyoldies, circle city rock, etc.)

It's not easy putting a new format together when you're dealing with a time consuming labor intensive format like Christmas music.

107.9 wasn't ready for its format change from WTPI, either.
