New York December Ratings

The New 102.7 has beat KTU in 6 plus the Last few books. It seems to me, Firing Greg T & Carolina from the Morning show & Bringing in Hollywood Hamilton & crew has made little or no Difference. Knowing The morning story is not for public knowledge. I wonder what the breakdown of the important Demos are like. This board used to have a consistent Breakdown every book 📕. But not consistent at all lately 🤷

Yes, old people participate in surveys at a disproportionally high rate. That wasn't news in this forum 25 years ago, and it's not news now.
That does not matter.

Older people may be more receptive to being recruited for a diary or PPM, but Nielsen does not have "too many" older participants in the ratings.

Nielsen has quotas for every stratification variable including age ranges, gender, ethnicity, language dominance for Hispanics, income, education and county or HDHA / HDBA area of residence.

So the percentage of people between 55 and 64 taking part in the Nielsen ratings matches the percentage of people in that age range in the market. And the percentage of 25-34 participants in the book represent the percentage of that group in the total market. And so on.

The PPM panel is supposed to match on all variable the entire market, but "in miniature".

And if there are a couple of missing people... or too many people... in any of the cells, weighting is used to "weigh" them up or down so that their influence it truly proportional.

It's interesting that WNEW 102.7's ratings have been climbing despite no longer having an evening on air personality. I believe they run automated on weekdays from 8 pm-6 am.
Apparently their audience is fine with just hearing music, in the hours past afternoon drive.

Audacy Classic Hits WOCL 1059 Sunny FM here in Orlando is consistently # 1 every month in the 6+, often times by a large margin. Outside of a morning drive show that has evolved into angry conservative talk over the years, the station was on jukebox mode during all other dayparts from March-August of this past year after longtime PM Drive personality Domino passed away. Domino was beloved, but jukeboxing his shift for almost six months did not affect the monthly share or cume at all. There is a new PM drive guy now but the station is still jockless in middays, nights and all weekend long (outside of AT40 the 80s) and it's still the clear leader as far as monthly share goes here in Central Florida.

Good for WNEW. Not everyone wants to hear holiday music, let alone continuous holiday music.

It is shocking to me how well WOCL does. Is it because of, or despite, the morning drive. Although it is in Florida, Orlando is not exactly friendly territory for that morning show.

I used to listen to Sunny all the time. Then the morning show became unlistenable. Then the other jocks disappeared. And then of course Domino sadly passed away.

If I'm in the car on Saturday morning I'll turn it on for AT40 the 80s. Outside of that I can go weeks or even months without listening. I don't need the anger from the morning show, which runs incessant promos during other day parts.

If The Dentist™ was running this board, he would say "PLEASE keep the topic to New York radio!"

But he isn't. We have a different philosophy whereby sidebar remarks are often as interesting and valuable as the topic heading itself.

In fact, on a number of occasions when a thread title is no longer relevant, I have changed it to reflect the course it has taken.

Then again, sometimes this is like that guy in the Chicago bar who says, "How about them Packers..."

I hope you don’t mind me saying. One of my favorite things about NYC Radio Discussions is how A thread Can start with a Question or comment & somehow it turns into several conversations & several brand new topics (hope that makes sense 🤷). It’s Fun

Not only that, but the people who run this site are actually willing to acknowledge that we're not always 100 percent right about everything, and that we enjoy learning from our users.

NJ 101.5, which isn’t even receivable in much of the Metro area, is close to tying The Block in the overall ratings.
Often amused when NJ101.5 traffc mentions the GWB since if you try to listen in that area, it's a mixmosh of Trenton, Poughkeepsie, and some local pirate station.

Another month and no sign of ratings for WEPN-FM aka TJ.....
just some rumblings about "the beat" on Radio Insight lately. Not to be confused with "Rock With a Beat" from many years ago in a different market.
