New York, Oldies Has Returned to . . .

'RLL is a great Real Oldies station. Superjock, Larry Lujack is on mornings with Tommy Edwards. New Yorkers might remember Scotty Brink; he is on middays. The World Famous Tom Murphy is afternoon drive.

I wish Disney would sell ESPN, AM1000. Have Clear Channel buy it and move Real Oldies from 1690 on the dial to a 50,000 watt flamethrower--the home of the former SuperCFL.

Jack statements

You're hilarious.

"Jack's failure as of this time" and "Jack gets lousy numbers" -- seriously, are you saying these things with a straight face? REALLY???

Time for Dreaming: It would be nice if Clear Channel bought WZZN and put WRRL on ZZN in Chicago. Obviously not happening and I doubt CC would be that on a full power signal in Market 3.

Actually 1050AM, but that would be cool too. Plus the signal is powerful, unlike WRLL in Chicago.

Ok, Day Dreaming over.<P ID="signature">______________

I believe he is just talking about the New York Jack. It still needs more time.

Bob Marvin: Just because Jack had a bad trend, doesn't mean it is a failure. Let's give it more time.

This is my point, the numbers of each trend since the format change have been in one direction and that is down. the station went from a 3.5 to a 4 in the winter/early spring to a 2.5 in the first trend and to a 1.7 in the most recent. I'm not suggesting that Infinity will throw up their hands. There will be some tweaking but at this point with all the publicity that format has gotten, WCBS FM is now the lowest rated FM station in the market. I kinow one guy who listens to the station and he's from Western NJ, Not really the NY market. NY isn't a rock market. NY isn't Boston. Play more urban music and maybe the numbers will improve but if Jacks job is to be a station that encourages you to stop by because maybe they are playing something you'd like, how do they deal with long stop sets which are a tune out to begin with?

My guess is if Clear Channel had AM1000, it wouldn't be Real
Oldies. They'd stick the shows they own on it like Rush, Glenn
Beck, etc along with some local talk and go after AM890...

Chicago Oldies

In a broad sense, you're right- problem is, most of those who listened to WJMK either don't know about WRLL or couldn't care less about mostly pre-Beatles music on AM.

"I am doing my best but what can you expect from someone who lives in the cultural center of the world. (no, not Birmigham, Alabama). We're trying to do everything we can even though we lack Super Wallmarts and stock car tracks here and yes, high school football and sad to say minor league sports aren't the begining and end of our entertainment choices."

Bob -- you really need to get out of the city....
Look beyond the large buildings -- see how
others really live -- not your small viewpoint
you've offered here.

I will try to put this simply. THIS RADIO STATION IS IN NYC. Why if I am here in the NY message board should I program a station for people who don't live here? You must be kidding me. This point is almost too foolish to respond to.

WJMK ratings

That's not entirely true. WJMK (as "Jack") has come up nicely the past few trends, to current levels comparable with WJMK (which, let's keep in mind, was never a terribly consistently well performing Oldies station).

Their growth is not like LA, Indy, St Louis or Nashville but it is steady and consistent (which NYC is not seeing). I know you wish it was tanking- it is not.

I thought that WJMK was doing basically ok the whole time they were Jack. It will be interesting to see how they are doing, say by the end of the Fall book.

In 25-54, Jack has been doing better in every month (real months and extraps through August) than its average performace prior to Jack. In fact, the August extrap is the best month of the last 12. And the cume has improved slightly, although most gains are on TSL.

WJMK

Not really. They were always a mystery to me, really- major midwest market, made for the Oldies format over the years. Of course, I also found WJMK one of the totally mediocre Oldies stations and their ratings record over the years bears that out. The din of rage over their demise wound down pretty quickly compared to what happened (and must be still happening) in New York.
