New Yorkers aren't warming up to Delilah very fast.

No, it's not my headline, it's Tom Taylor, Radio-Info.com's columnist.
(I don't know how many people read his column...)

Here are his comments.

New Yorkers aren't warming up to Delilah very fast.

WLTW Added a customized version of the Premiere-syndicated evening show earlier this year, and this time, "Lite" dropped 4.9-3.7, 12+ - all the way to 7thy place. The 25-54 situation was worse. Delilah and WLTW are 9th , 7PM-Midnight.

Reason 1--She's horrible.
Reason 2--Customized or not, it's not the "live & local" show that LTW listeners were used to.
Reason 3--She's horrible.
Well, I could go on, but why? Delilah is okay for small and medium markets where the competition is bad or non-existent, but in markets like LA or New York she's just not good enough. In LA they changed formats and what a great excuse to dump her. She killed off KBIG's night audience who turned off the station in droves at 10pm every night. It was a rhythmic AC with a mix show on before her and she stuck out like a sore thumb. Premiere and CC wanted her to be on KOST but the PD there fought hard to keep her off and why not, the Lovesongs on the Coast show always killed Delilah and is far superior. She might have done better in New York if there had never been a better local show before her but...

WLTW made several bad moves and made them all at once. First they dropped the "Lite" from their logo, then canned the morning and evening shows replacing their night jock with Delilah and had the added competition from FRESH. It's a fact, AC audiences don't like that many changes all at once and I'm sure Jim Ryan knew that, but he had to follow orders from above.

Not sure what they could do. Ostensibly they could get rid of Delilah but it's probably impossible to bring back JJ Kennedy. They could follow suit with WALK 97.5 which just moved Al Lewis to evenings eliminating their love songs show all together and they no longer play any love songs in the evening. But I don't think Jim Ryan is going to want to go that route. Since evenings are not the pivotal morning or afternoon drive Ryan is probably just going to have to stick with Delilah, or eventually go back to local programming and find another suitable host to do a local love songs program. When they switched morning hosts they were able to draw internally from the weekend staff to promote Karen Carson. WLTW still has a considerable weekend staff but none of those staff members have the soothing presence that is needed to be the host of an evening love songs program.

As I see it having a love songs show at night, or any specialty show has been essential for many stations that would otherwise see there numbers fall off after 6 or 7 pm. WLTW's sister station in Los Angeles has always had a nice boost from the numbers that Lovesongs on the Coast has given them. Take those numbers away and it gets a lot tougher for them. I would guess this has been the case in New York. Jim Ryan is a smart man and I would guess that he is miserable right now knowing that the changes that management forced on him hurt his station. Everyone points to FRESH as being a catalyst, but I wonder if the resurgence of CBS-FM might be hurting Lite FM as well? My solution for now would be to search far and wide for the right talent to replace Delilah and then dump her. That may be tough as Premiere exerts a lot of Pressure within the company and Delilah really wants to be on in the top markets. Her ego just won't let her give up on that wish. WALK’s moves at night surprise me. They are clearly departing from a paradigm that has been in place at AC’s of this type for many years…

She is to cookie cutter cute. Sickenly sweet. Most people I know don't like her and I'm no exception. The show is just plain horrible.

Delilah simply doesn't represent the majority of the population in this demographic. Let's face it, Delilah's show is made for medium size midwestern type markets with it's sappy sweet, Hallmark card type appeal.
It is not suprising that it is not doing well in NYC.

BRING BACK JJ KENNEDY!!!!!!

Forgive my ignorance, but where is JJ Kennedy now?

Last time I heard her was on WCBS-FM HD-2 on July 11. It seemed like she was auditioning for an air shift on CBS-FM, and obviously, nothing ever came of it, although I would have enjoyed her on CBS-FM occasionally.

New York knows talent and Delilah is not one.when she tries to console women who have lost lovers, GAWD, it just makes me want to barf up my toe nails. almost sounds like she wants to hop in bed with these women.Let ME make it all better.she's gotta be toasting something while she's on the air...

To me she sounds like the female version of Casey Kasem.

And I've NEVER liked Casey...just because of that syrupy way he talks. Unless it's an effin' dead-dog dedication. ;D

Let me guess: you are not a 30-49 female.

Hey! I'm a 32 year old female and I hate her show!!! Not all of us like that cloying, syrupy, phoney "I pretend I care" attitude on the radio. YUCK! It gives me the willies just thinking about her voice and on-air style. :'( :'( :'(

OK, I'm not a 30-49 female, but I also think that her show is horrible. That show is absolutely nauseating to me too. Awful, awful stuff. :p

So bad, in fact, that comparisons of Delilah to Casey Kasem are insulting to Casey. Basically, this is a show that has a very polarizing effect - particularly in places where other choices abound. IF females, 30-49 are listening, they must be doing it alone because no one else will put up with this dreck unless they absolutely have to.

The numbers don't lie....Delilah seems to be ratings poison in the largest markets. As said above, this was one of several really bad moves that were pulled at Lite. Once again, the old expression that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" is proven.

David Eduardo.. wrote Let me guess: you are not a 30-49 female. Now my time to guess.[EDIT]...Her show sucks ,New York is a more hip market and they catch on fast to twits like Delilah. Truth is off mic, she is probably laughing her ass off at most of her listeners.FOR REAL..her opening theme should be Linda Ronstadt's POOR POOR PITIFUL ME..Dam last market i heard her in made me want to drive right into the nearest phone pole..

[EDIT-inflammatory]

Hello New Yorkers, I am just writing this to let you know she was canned here in Chicago last night. I agree with everyone on this
board who said she was horrible. I'll be hoping you guys will get the same good news soon in New York that we got in Chicago yesterday.

Jeffrey hits it right out of the park..and the problem is, if you look at the ratings in some of those Midwestern markets, her show is doing just as badly as it is in NYC..I worked at an FM in Ohio that dumped her several years ago, after her numbers tanked, and the audience didn't notice..

If you really wanted to torture someone, you could have them listen to Delilah and John Tesh on a loop..it would drive most people mad in a matter of hours..

If they really want to get info out of prisoners at Gitmo, just pipe her into the cells 24/7. She could very well be our secret weapon...
