New Yorkers aren't warming up to Delilah very fast.

David is right. Although I do like Stephanie's use of the word "cloying".

If you have forgotten, Delilah got her launch from Warm in Seattle. I wouldn't consider that a midwestern market. Or a small one. While she may not be as good for some of the faster, major markets like NY or LA, where she is less of a fit with the more rhythmic sound of the market, she is not at all a backwater town kind of talent. It's indicative of what AC is... a format for 30- and 40-something women with families, kids, whatever, who appreciate the schtick that Delilah (and many AC stations' brilliant superwoman paired with idiot guy morning show) offer.

...and in that light, those of you prone to knocking Delilah really need to do some soul-searching as to why you're putting AC radio in general upon a pedestal. It's like you're making the format out to be some kind of progressive AAA or something...

Delilah is still on the air here in Cleveland, why is beyond me. If I listen to her, within 10 minutes I'm usually asleep and only wake up when my drool hits my lap. If the songs she plays are particularly saccharine it might be a puddle of vomit.

Where I get Delilah it is so painfully bad how she is not in studio. The same generic "I just got a call from a family listening in ______" plays every hour. To the point where average listeners have noticed.

There are other stations outside of New York City. WRNQ's "Lite-FM" at 92.1 has Delilah on and so does B-95.5 in Albany, NY still has her on. I'm not a big fan of Delilah as I said before. I remember WHUD pulled the plug on Delilah's show last year. I remember a few years ago, it was WCTW's former "98.5 The Cat".

It's not a matter of trying to make the AC format out to be a progressive, hip format but to put on sappy, generic, non local programming on a station that appeals to diverse masses is not smart.

More like, "not smart" is a signifier for the kinds of "diverse masses" AC appeals to these days...

I see, An AC is the top rated station in the financial and cultural center of the Nation and it's people are "not smart".

Would hip-hop be better for you?

Lino

I've never cared for Delilah either. I'd also prefer a local host (especially for a major market like NYC). But if I absolutely had to choose a syndicated AC evening show, I think John Tesh's is much better than Delilah's. I kind of find his "info - factoids" interesting and I actually find myself listening to his show a fair amount. But I NEVER listen to Delilah. She's an instant tune out for me.

Well, if you want "smart", look at those who're no longer choosing radio. AC is top rated among those who remain, so to speak...

Don't know exactly, but it's been a while. I thought she worked in Boston before Seattle.

Delilah simply doesn't represent the majority of the population in this demographic. Let's face it, Delilah's show is made for medium size midwestern type markets with it's sappy sweet, Hallmark card type appeal.
It is not suprising that it is not doing well in NYC.
Huh????? Have you actually ever been to the Midwest? This explains why you people call it "flyover country." "Nuanced," Im guessing, actually means "head-inserted."

We do agree, however, that Delilah is awful. Live, Local, Interactive, and programming w/ an actual personality would be vastly superior. Not that any idiot corporate suit will ever figure that out.

So.....when did your "smartness" level start to have anything to do with your musical tastes?

I'm sure there's plenty of people (myself included) who are not rocket-scientists, high-powered corporate lawyers, brain-surgeons or philosophers; who also enjoy so-called high-brow music formats, like Classical for instance.

Sure, and a lot of the poor saps and yokels who are afficionados of the art of Thomas Kinkade also enjoy French Impressionism...

"Elitist" with a purpose--after all, within artistic circles, Kinkade's commonly regarded as the artistic equivalent of what Delilah's accused of being on this board. Just pointing out possible double standards here, etc...

The reason why Delilah does well in the Midwest is not because of people's perceived intelligence. It has to do with limited choices, and if you want to listen to adult-contemp music, you're invariably stuck with a station that carries the Delilah show.

She was doing a local show on WVBF (Framingham/Boston) in the early 1990's.
