News Channel 8 to become NEWS 8

About damn time!! Hopefully it's done at the same time as going HD. WTNH still has a looooong way to go though!

I can't believe that that was WTNH's first HD commercial. Here in Providence, their sister station WPRI has been doing HD promos since spring or summer of last year. They also have upgraded almost all IDs and lineup promos to HD.

So, basically, WTNH will be undergoing the same image surgery recently performed on MTV - just cut off the bottom - in this case, the word "channel" from "News [8] Channel"...

I would say WPVI/Philadelphia owns exclusive rights to that theme at this point. ;D

WPVI may own the exclusive rights if the theme is connected to the Action News brand since Buffalo's WKBW had brought back that "Move closer" theme a few years ago but they use the Eyewitness News brand. Last I checked Scranton's WNEP-TV was using the theme as well for their news.

This mornings news show is being broadcast from the bullpen. To quote Ted Koppy "its a little old school today" (one camera, no computers or graphics). Matt and Ted both said that a new studio is under construction this weekend and will "debut" Monday at 5:00.

Does WTNH really think that this is what's going to make a dent in their ratings for Hartford County? I say the answer is no. Nice idea, but not quite in execution. I'll stick with WVIT or WFSB like I always have.

Every station in the market except for WFSB and WCTX have changed their branding over the past 6 months... WFSB is still Channel 3 Eyewitness News...

Which begs the question, if it ain't broke, why fix it? ???

Good question. Granted they're not exactly the greatest newscast in the market, WTNH was News Channel 8 for some 15 years before relaunching as News 8 yesterday and before that they were Action News 8 for many years. I wasn't around, but I think the 70s until 1995.
