News Coverage Of Boston Marathon Explosions

S. Setta wondered: said:
(CBS) was originally going to be a special episode (today, April 18th)of the price is right, but it was rescheduled for May 3, and they're airing a rerun instead. Why air a rerun if they're not airing the service?

While CBS-owned WBZ-4 carried the service locally, maybe the network aired part of the memorial service. I don't know.

Additionally, it was over by the time that "Price Is Right" would be seen on the West Coast.

Otherwise, the episode in question would not have been seen in full in the eastern half of the country.

The story took a turn late last night (April 18th) when the two suspects robbed a 7-11 convenience store in Cambridge (across the Charles River from Boston) near the Massachusetts Institute Of Technology, and killed an MIT campus police officer.

Later on, they were caught in the suburb in Watertown (about five-six miles west of Cambridge), where there was a shootout between one of them and police. One suspect is dead, the other one escaped and is still (at this writing, 3:15 P.M. EDT April 19th) at large and leaving large parts of the Boston area under lockdown.

Just after 11 P.M. EDT last night, Dan Rea on WBZ-1030 mentioned the robbery in Cambridge, but based on the tone of the report, it appeared not to be related to the bombings, so I went to sleep just after that.

Like many others in the Boston area (and beyond), I was awakened by an overnight phone call and told what had happened, so I have been watching news coverage.

It's been very difficult for Boston's TV stations, but I think they have done an outstanding job all week.

They will likely win a lot of awards, but this is not the way they wanted their news coverage to be recognized.

NBC had to apologize to viewers a few minutes ago after they switched to coverage from New England Cable News, where foul language was being used on-air. Eventually they switched their local feed to WHDH.

WLNE from Providence had reporters Melissa Toupin and Andrea Medeiros live from Copley Square on all of their afternoon and evening newscasts, and Dee Dequattro gave updates on their website.

Angela Medeiros live from Watertown today also.

Overall...I've been very impressed with the coverage by WLNE...especially when it came to exploring leads in the case which provided local angles on which to report.

Nice Work Channel 6.

So, I'm curious.... this is the second time this year [the first being February's blizzard] that I've seen WHDH's primetime coverage of an event continue through the 10pm hour, resulting in the coverage being simulcast on WHDH's sister station, WLVI. Why not take the opportunity to switch one of those over to NBC's coverage for the 10pm hour? It can't possibly be Ansin's way of giving the network the finger again, can it?

I caught Ed Harding's interview with the boat-in-the-backyard guy--ch:5-- whose tip to the PD in Watertown helped put an end to this fiasco. Ed told him some "thought he was a National Hero."

Almost everything was exaggerated last week but come on Ed, did you have to play into the heroic narrative that completely? You made the poor guy cry! At least he got to say there was no blood on the boat tarp. One of the few truths we heard all week.

Has anyone interviewed the naked guy yet (who was highjacked)? Now that would be a good get! Ed could tell him he was a hero with a little more gravitas.
