If 97.1 goes my guess 93Q would also flip. They are a combo to hold off KILT

Tubby's not the only casualty. Also let go from Cox is Michael V., or Mike Valdez, if you will. Dave E. Crockett has been dropped to 1 day a week, and Kevin James is now voicetracking shifts at K-Hits. I believe an accountant and a couple of other off-air personnel were axed as well.
On an opinionated note, I am afraid we may very well hear the death bell toll for Country Legends. The ratings are not where they once were, and without Tubby, the mornings just got a little more difficult to navigate. I couldn't imagine 93Q flipping. Cox has bigger fish to fry than flipping their number 1 station in the cluster. If 97.1 flips, it would more likely open 93Q up to mix several of the classics into their playlist. You gotta remember they still have that little stinker at 106.9 to deal with, and K-Hits hadn't been doing so well lately, either.

I hate to be picky, but my name is kevin charles, not kevin james... he's one of our weekenders... I'm now tracking middays.. john prince tracks nights. All of this was budget oriented, not a problem with ratings or talent or anything else. So far as I know, no more changes are expected and no format flips.

Actually 106.9 does maybe well in the cumes but I am not sure how their numbers are in the specific demographics now..I have noticed they started adding songs from the LATE 90s recently......(btw COX, mid 70s through mid 90s is TWO decades...not three...are you sure your people can count???)

Sure, a man can dream. But look at the signal of 97.1. Sure, it may not have stellar ratings in Houston, but it *does* have a loyal fan base.

Tubby is a great guy to have in the building wherever that building may be.
I agree Tubby has always done a good job at 97.1, but his employer has not always done the best job of programming classic country hits around his "presence".
I'm a huge fan of the very old classic country stars and hits, and 97.1 sounded great for a while when it started, but it quickly fell into a repetitive pattern that just got annoying.
It seemed to me that their idea of Country Legends radio was to play the same 100 or so songs from the 60s, 70s and 80s over and over again. After a while it just got boring to listen to. If I NEVER hear Crystal Gale again it will be too soon.
I also wish they would play more classic country songs from the 40s and 50s. But that's just me.

For my money, the best classic country radio I have EVER heard can be found right now on XM Radio's Willie's Place channel.
That is REAL hard-core down and dirty cry-in-your-beer honky tonk country music from the 1940s and 50s. I don't have XM in my car, but I do have XM at home on my Direct TV satellite. Unfortunately, I can only listen to it when my wife isn't at home. She hates that stuff.
I guess my point is that a broadcast radio programmer who wants to know what "real" classic country sounds like should check out Willie's Place on XM.

Smittian, I know what you mean. I would love to hear "THe Lord Knows I'm Drinkin'" by Cal Smith. Little David Wilkins, "Butterbeans" is a good song as well. I wish it was mine. The research handbook would be thrown out the window.

Yep, a decade is 10 years....doesnt matter if the last digit is a zero or not....thus the mid 70s to the mid 90s is TWO, not THREE decades....
Or has everyone forgotten 20years/10 yrs per decade = 2 decades?? (even a 5th grader can handle that

legends is a joke...take there name "country legends" how is that your name but you hear the eagles , ccr , juice newton , gordon lightfoot and dobbie grey , each 8 times a day it seems.....but merle haggard , buck owens , hank williams mayyyybe once a day!!!!!
