News On New WOR Morning Show

I'm hearing a deal has been cut for new WOR morning show. The host is a well known TV and radio personality and the sidekick is a news personality from a competing station (contracts still not finalized...so may be a few weeks still)

Why are current radio management so swayed by TV folks? WABC has Geraldo, pat Kiernan, Rita Cosby...none who do a credible radio show IMHO. Radio is not just TV without pictures!!

Why not put "Bob & Sheri" on WOR in mornings. I love Bob Lacey & Sheri Lynch, they were a great morning team. I've heard it when it was on WCTW's "The Cat" where they still carries the show every morning. It is a ton better than Howard Stern & Opie & Anthony and now that Anthony is out of Sirius/XM. "Bob & Sheri" is still popular in North Carolina when it was first heard on WLNK's "The Link", but it carried on some AC stations, but I would to hear "Bob & Sheri" coming to WOR in mornings soon if they don't need another person on board, "Bob & Sheri" will be available.

I have no idea who "Bob & Sheri" are but no doubt there are talented RADIO people working in smaller markets who could bring a fresh morning show to WOR. This market needs something fresh!

The problem is, that would take research and imagination. And whoever makes the decision would risk losing his/her job if the experiment fails. Choosing a known TV person, while just as risky and far more costly, is actually safer for the decision maker because it's easier to justify to top management.

There's also the prestige factor ... rubbing elbows with the stars and all that.

Jodi Applegate ? Michael Wallace ?

Larry Mendte? Pat Farnack ?

Bob and Sheri do a syndicated morning show out of Charlotte which plays music and is designed for AC stations. It would not be a good fit for WOR,obviously.

Re:

Bob & Sheri?!!! You must be joking.

Comparing them to Howard Stern? Even more hilarious!!!!

A good morning show if you are a 64 year old woman, I suppose. If they were any good, they wouldn't be working in Charlotte -- which, frankly, is a pretty lame radio market relative to size. In fact, their flagship isn't even the top-rated AC in Charlotte. CBS-owned K104.7 routinely beats 107.9 The Link in the ratings.

will WOR hire a morning host by the fall ? Or does anyone care ?
any word who it could be ?

The guy who's filling in right now for Mark Simone is good. Sounds young, energetic, funny, not into himself -- why don't they hire him for mornings? He'd be a 100% improvement over what's on now.

Just caught his name, Brett Winterble -- apparently he lives in LA, does satellite radio and a lot of terrestrial fill-in. THIS is what WOR needs in the morning -- a talented radio guy -- not a boring, self-absorbed celebrity.

No "news" here. Just speculation.

Part of the equation is Clear Channel/Premiere has put successful syndication entries into other dayparts but never East Coast morning drive. The only program that comes close in Cumulus' Imus. I would not be surprised if Clear Channel is looking to develop a show they can syndicate. If they do, all those stations running syndicated talk the rest of the day can fire their local morning show talent and become computers in closets.

Curtis Sliwa apparently agrees:

Great post by Curtis! He also reinforces the positive things I've said about Frank Morano. Talk radio isn't dead ... it's just stagnant.

the WOR morning program does not seem to be a priority for clear channel.
appears they bought WOR mainly to air the Mets , Rush, & Hannity.

Now September & Hilarie & Joe stilll doing mornings on WOR.
maybe nobody else wants to do the show on tired, old, low rated 710 .

Remember back when WOR ran "Elliot in the Morning"? That didn't work very well at all, so they decided to pulled the plug after a few weeks. That was around February or March. And then a few months later, "Elliot in the Morning" is now being heard in the Hudson Valley at 93.3 in New Paltz which is WBWZ's "Rock 93.3" which is another rock station and it is also a competitor to WPDH.

I'll have to check "Elliot in the Morning" on "Rock 93.3" another day. What an excellent move. I hope if the morning show does well on a Rock station, maybe they should put it on WAXQ's "Q104" to replace Jim Kerr in the future.
