News Radio 103.1 WRSC(FM)

Well, they did it.

They blew a perfectly good format up for a regurgitation of WRSC.

Monty, couldn't you find the sales in the Centre Region to make it work? Or, did you not want to have to work so hard?

WQWK / QWK Rock was a format that has survived very well in this market for a LONG time.

Even if you moved QWK Rock to say 99.5, would be better than blowing up into smitherines.

I agree that WRSC would be ideal for FM; but, not at the price of eliminating QWK.

A great idea would be now to put WMAJ(AM) 1450 ESPN Radio on 99.5 FM. You could sell more local sports coverage in the Bellefonte and Penns Valley area. They have the money to make it work. They have longed for a station to cover them more often than not.

Though, WBLF has done this and done it well.

If, you are thinking that this is going to force WBLF to react; keep thinking. WBLF is doing quite well. Has the better shows from the national level. Definitely has more local offerings than WRSC AM or FM.

From my perspective of being an owner and a programmer, it is smart to put WRSC on FM; but not on 103.1.

It won't matter much in the form of ratings, since nobody buys the book (Arbitron) anymore. But, other ratings services are starting to cover markets like State College and will unveil the utter stupidity that management at Forever has entered into, with this "bone-headed" idea.

I wish you the best.

You just need to get salespeople to do their job and leave the programming to people that know what they're doing; instead of programming wannabe's that happen to manage or own radio stations.

Forever, you really know how to ruin a good thing.

But, I am glad you've decided to choose one of the highest Arbitron ratings in your artillery to axe.

I guess that's one determining factor... although it seems more like...

"eenie, meenie, minie, moe. Catch a frequency by the toe, if his brother makes a go, then he should too, but sorry... NO."

Just no.

I really hope you don't sing that song the next time you axe an employee. It may be slightly offensive.
Try rock, paper, scissors... at least they have a slight chance of crushing your scissors, with what?

Oh yea... a ROCK.

Come on now! That would make sense! We can't have the "suits" actually making sound business decisions, now can we?

That might actually benefit EVERYONE! The company AND the listeners!

Is there a more incompetent radio company than Forever? All signs would point to "no".

Since the early 00's, it's just been mis-step after puzzling mis-step.

In roughly chronological order, here's just a few:

- 98.7 signing on as Smooth Jazz? Really? Sign on a format that relies on half African American listenership in the sea of white people that is Centre County?

- Killing off Beaver 103 for Hot when they acquired 107.9? Why? Hot was winning the 12+ ratings war at the time, but Beaver was a brand that made money and targeted adults. The unholy Beaver/Hot combination on 103.1 was actually a very good sounding CHR (Glen Turner was programming I think?), but the branding was off. The "Hot" listeners were expecting a Rhythmic station and the older "Beaver" listeners ended up going to 3WZ. Would have been a better idea to just keep Beaver around and adjust the music.

- QWK to 98.7? Again, why? I guess the 98.7 signal was slighly superior, but 97.1 had no trouble hitting #1 in the Arbitrons in the past. QWK on 97.1 had heritage, and moving it to 98.7 seemed like change just for the sake of change.

- QWK to 103.1. Because the 98.7 switch didn't confuse listeners enough. And because Hot 103.1 was somehow less valuable than a second Froggy (what replaced QWK on 98.7).

- and finally, QWK to death. I'll give them credit for having a good idea with talk on the FM, but why kill a heritage station that, even through the meddling of an incompetent company, had consistently good ratings?

Bottom line: Radio listeners are creatures of habit, and therefore branding and consistency are extremely important. What Forever does, with the constant shuffling of formats and frequencies, is turn loyal listeners away from the medium. Amazingly, Forever has one station where they are consistent to a T, and have impeccable branding- the original Froggy 98- and it's far-and-away the most successful radio station in the company. You'd think they'd learn a thing or two from that example.

I think the new format is great. Most FM stations are virtually the same--some kind of korny morning program and music with jokes all day long. I need radio programming that stimulates thought. I need to be involved in the issues of the day to be a good citizen. Whether you believe everything you hear on talk radio, or whether you don't, it is the discussion that will shape tomorrow--and responsible citizenship demands that you be informed.

I was streaming the same shows from distant stations, recording them, and listening to them a day late. I am thrilled to be able to listen in real time from a LOCAL station!! The putty-heads will bitch for a while, but WRSC will find a whole new listenership and will be better and stronger for it. Now is perhaps the best time for WRSC to make this change. Hang in there WRSC!!

Yeah Forever is pretty bad. It all starts with Carol Logan. If she didn't have the father she has, she'd be working at the mall.

You could have listened on 1390 all along. It's not like 103.1 brings any new content to the table.

Is it true that Forever is planning on dumping either their WALY Format, or their Classic Rock signal in favor of an Altoona based FM talker? I've heard that a former Altoona morning show giant may be in negotiations to return to the local airwaves to headline the new venture. What do you 4ever insiders know?

Exactly who do you think Carol Logan's father is?

Lucifer Logan?

It is easy to pick someone out and place blame. Everyone has a boss and sometimes the person making decisions hides behind a willing or unwilling scapegoat. So the plane crashes. Is it the pilot? the navigator? the genius architect? the greedy accountant?
The problems have already been solved (several times?), but stupid and greedy failed to notice and "fixed" the fix.

YEA SPACKLER CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR THIS ONE. COULD THEY THINK KIRBY IS HER FATHER? TOO FUNNY

The names I've heard were Steve, or some Frank. I could only think of Steve Clark or
Steve Willbit. Don't know of a Frank or Jeff.

Steve Clark=Frank Weyant??

Oh Ya...I forgot. Roy Goshorn always called him Frankie, at first I thought he called him
Frankie because of the alleged incident of stolen hot dogs earmarked for some school patrol
function, or event.
