Well, they did it.
They blew a perfectly good format up for a regurgitation of WRSC.
Monty, couldn't you find the sales in the Centre Region to make it work? Or, did you not want to have to work so hard?
WQWK / QWK Rock was a format that has survived very well in this market for a LONG time.
Even if you moved QWK Rock to say 99.5, would be better than blowing up into smitherines.
I agree that WRSC would be ideal for FM; but, not at the price of eliminating QWK.
A great idea would be now to put WMAJ(AM) 1450 ESPN Radio on 99.5 FM. You could sell more local sports coverage in the Bellefonte and Penns Valley area. They have the money to make it work. They have longed for a station to cover them more often than not.
Though, WBLF has done this and done it well.
If, you are thinking that this is going to force WBLF to react; keep thinking. WBLF is doing quite well. Has the better shows from the national level. Definitely has more local offerings than WRSC AM or FM.
From my perspective of being an owner and a programmer, it is smart to put WRSC on FM; but not on 103.1.
It won't matter much in the form of ratings, since nobody buys the book (Arbitron) anymore. But, other ratings services are starting to cover markets like State College and will unveil the utter stupidity that management at Forever has entered into, with this "bone-headed" idea.
I wish you the best.
You just need to get salespeople to do their job and leave the programming to people that know what they're doing; instead of programming wannabe's that happen to manage or own radio stations.
