Either this is cutting edge or they are cutting their wrists.

I thought they initially had Steve Cannon and George Lehner in the line up. Seems they are now gone.

Well said. That's basically how I felt reading about it.
Getting the old WTVN band back together... it's an interesting idea.
I did hear they were trying to get Bob Conners as well. Maybe that "mystery host" they have on the schedule?

Is this project really necessary? Columbus is already loaded with news and/or talk stations as is. Now there's an online station?

I just can't see BC making that kind of time commitment.

If he is willing to do that for this, then did he why retire? (Unless he was being led, shown or otherwise pointed to the door) Yeah, you get up at the crack of dawn, but when you're done you've got the day to do whatever. This would be a 4 hour daily intrusion.

For grins and giggles, Yeah, maybe an hour here or there. But a daily 4 hour commitment in the middle of the afternooon and early evening? Wouldn't make sense.

I gotta see the business plan for this!
I am hearing Willie Nelson singing in the background....blue skies...nothin' but blue skys from now on...

I'm guessing "Dave From Powell" will also have something to do with this. He might even be the "mystery host".

That makes a lot more sense then Bob Conners being the "mystery host". As has been posted on the Columbus board before, BC is happly retired.
Besides, they probally can't afford to entice BC out of retirement anyway.

Too many oars in this water paddling different directions...Allow me to try to calm the waves.

In what I will call over-excitement, some things were posted, released, talked about, prematurely. I am attempting to subdue those eager fingers because i am not one to show my hand to my fellow poker players. since some info is out there, let me at least try to make sure it is correct info:

I have been asked to play in this game and I have agreed to give it a shot.
Listening to the project will not cost money.
It is application based and as long as the tech people are correct it will be very, very simple to use for listeners.
The BC rumors about hosting a show are not true.
Dave from Mars, or wherever he is this week, is not involved.
There is no cutting of wrists or anything else.
Is it necessary? How many kinds of corn flakes are at Kroger?

What you have here is a group of people getting together to try something new, something that we hope will be well recieved, something that we hope is successful. The project is not a stab at Clear Channel or WTVN, it just so happens that some of the people involved have worked for that company and/or that station. We like each other, we love radio and we're hoping to have a little fun. If during the fun we manage to provide something useful to people in central Ohio and/or make a few dollars, then saints be praised and glory be!

As things become more concrete, I will share. I hope this post was useful.

We will start running some "test flights" in the next couple of weeks. "The Founders" folks, that contributed to get us started will get to hear that fiasco as we tweek things and yell, and forget to turn off the mic to burb...and get it all ready for public consumption. We have set a goal date but that will be released with the final schedule announcement. I am meeting with potential hosts and on-air people and producers, etc. today, tomorrow, Saturday and Monday...like I needed more things to fill my schedule! Ultimately, this is FUN! We're a bunch of kids that found some wood back of dad's shed and we're building a tree house.

Hmmmmm. I guess I don't understand the phrase "I hope as I wrIte thIs from my hospital bed at 2am thIs clearly descrIbes what this game changIng corporate radio KILLER will do!" Doesn't read like having a little fun. Sounds pretty serious.

Del, Maybe it's easier to understand 2:00am, in a hospital, medicated, facing surgery. Under those conditions, someone might be a little fuzzy and should probably have been asleep, or at least cut off from there wi-fi devices.

Do we have dreams and aspirations for this project? Of course we do. Obviously none of us would spend time trying to put this together if it meant nothing to us. No fighter goes into the ring without a little chest-pounding and taunting the opponent, but in Chuckyworld, we would wait to get out gloves on. Not everyone is Chuck, and for that the world should be thankful.

And that may be the undermining of what could be a noble project. High octane independent oriented people don't often play well in the sandbox.

While I'm sure the meds may have been in overdrive, it's not the first time that attitude has been presented. Maybe not so explicitly and in detail, but it's been out there. So it appears that may likely an underlying sentiment of at least from one of the key players (and it appears drivers) of this project. Was this a post surgery posting (oddly now removed) while inhibitions were diminished and allowing for true thoughts and feelings to go on display?

I'm an interested spectator. This type of thing is my OSU football. That's why I wrote this is either cutting edge or cutting of wrists. It would be kind of cool to see something like this succeed. That's cutting edge. Cutting wrists could be anything from failed relationships and financial failure either due to out of pocket expenses (the now gone post mentioned needing 30k to properly finance this project and so far only 3k has been raised from "founders") or opportunity cost failure due to the time that was invested vs time that could/should have been invested elsewhere.

Chuck,

Has you and/or your group ever consider LMAing WVKO-AM a few months ago for this local talk format? WVKO-AM was available a couple of months ago.

What about WBNS-AM? Have you considered WBNS-AM? What about any of the rim-shot FMs in town? Sure would like to hear News Talk 614 on AM or FM radio if that is at all possible.

I agree, Artie. In my very limited tech knowledge, I would think the set-up would be easier if we were to stream a broadcast station as opposed to having a station that is entirely online...I THINK.

I was not part of the inception of the project, so I don't know if the LMA route was considered. By the time I was asked to participate, WVKO LMA was already done. I don't know if WBNS had/has any interest in an LMA for their AM. I would think that it is a keeper for them, if for no reason other than to protect syndicated programming from others.

It's a brave, new world...

Any news on the start-up date?

All the talk, bravado and ongoing requests for founders to assist with start up has pretty much dried up. If they are still seeking backing, it's being done much more quietly.

Would like to see it get off the ground and in the form of the early promises.

Problem is, time is not on their side in terms of some of the hosts still being top of mind.
