News Talk 614

Not at all surprising given the modern age of technology where you can listen in your car through a phone app. Old radio pros seem to be "playing" radio at home a lot these days. Listening to who they really are can often be discovered via the internet stations. Good Luck Chuck and have fun!!

Looks like Chuck and Corporal Craig are now out.

From Chuck's site, http://www.chuckdouglas.net/newstalk614-com/:

"Despite my enthusiasm for the project, I have to be practical. Other opportunities seem to exist and decisions had to be made. I was not alone in this dilemma. Craig Sinclair is in a similar situation. We have opted to remove ourselves from the NewsTalk614.com line-up."

I think Steve Cannon may have bowed out too sometime ago. I wonder if this will ever launch with these events?

If they are going to launch News Talk 614 at all, then why don't they have a launch date yet?
Nothing new on the News Talk 614 website.

Any additional chatter about this or did it end up being DOA?

But did Dirk and his team throw in the towel on this? And then the follow up is why after all the bravado?

Once we know that, the thread can die a peaceful death.

We may never know that. I doubt if even mxyzptlk knows that. But bravado is all that radio has going for it these days; when its executives know that they have nothing of any real value to offer to the public, then all they can do is hype the hell out of it and hope that enough people will continue to be fooled.

And to add insult to injury to those who think political talk is "the" format for talk radio, I saw where Shawn Ireland claims to be adding stations in the near future.

She's jumping later this summer to 93.3 and adding a station in south/southwestern ohio.

Interesting move.  Seems kind of unusual for a 100% music-driven oldies station, especially since (per her website) it's going to be a Saturday morning slot instead of Sunday morning.    Of course they had to leave Sunday morning open for AT40.

As for political talk's slide, it will probably get a temporary bump from the current slate of "scandals" and revelations.  In fact, the latest PPMs show some political talkers (including TVN, finally) ticking up, and others stopping their downward drift for now.  But there's still the issue of the growth in agency "No Rush" dictates that Cumulus keeps citing as hurting revenues.

I at first thought the move to an all music station was sort of weird. But after some additional thought, the demos are closer to her target, she may be adding some tunes (wild guess) and Saturday morning should have way more listeners than late Sunday afternoon.
