Similarity to Clear Channel buying WOR 710 in New York. They're using WOR to clear several Premiere syndicated Talk shows that weren't airing in the NY market, including Andy Dean. But they also are allowing WABC to keep airing Rush Limbaugh, just as they're keeping him on WSB. And WOR does run Dave Ramsey from 2-4pm, so for the first hour, Ramsey's financial advice doesn't really conflict with Rush on WABC.
What to do about a news department? Simple. When CC took over WOR, they got rid of all the station's news people except the morning newscaster who also acts as sidekick to the morning show host and even hosts on Saturday mornings. The rest of the day, they use newspeople who work for co-owned Total Traffic.
I do have to question the delay of Andy Dean till 9-Midnight, so they can air ARN 6-9pm? I don't think I believe that will happen. WOR airs Premiere/Clear Channel's Clyde Lewis from 11pm-1am, followed by Coast to Coast. And from 9-11pm WOR runs KFI's John & Ken from that CC station in Los Angeles. No need for outside syndicated material at night.
Clear Channel/Premiere also has WIOD Miami's Todd Schnidt in the evening. Maybe they'd put him in a slot on WGST? Hey, Premiere even has liberal talker Randi Rhodes, 3-6pm. Would they dare to find a slot for her on WGST as well?
BTW, ESPN Deportes is NOT simply generic Sports Talk for anyone who speaks Spanish. It's very much geared to Mexican sports, mostly futbol, futbol and more futbol. That's why it doesn't work in the East where many Latinos are from the Carribean where no one cares about Mexican futbol. CC should have realized this before blowing up WGST last year.
