Next Year, it'll be Ryan Seacrest's Rockin' New Years Eve 2013

Sadly, I agree with the remarks about Dick Clark. I just caught a little of him last night. I don't know how much he was actually on. He seemed to slur his words more than he did last year. I consider him a (distant)friend so it really pains me to him that way. I know he still goes to therapy but it hasn't seemed to help his speech.
His wife, Kari, looked great, though.

Dick Clark is a tough bird.

By all rights, with what happened, and this is said with all due respect to the man, that stroke could've been a lot worse for him. If he can get in front of that camera each year, so be it. The years of Dick Clark-less NYRE specials arrive, I hope DCP is wise enough to go into the vault, digitize and remaster all the old specials, and get them out on DVD or available to Multicast networks like AntennaTV and the like.

And as usual, KATV Little Rock AR will be tape delaying the 10:35PM CT show an hour.
What KMGH 7 here in Denver was rather unusual (If not utterly strange)

They ran the primetime version of RNYE from 8:00 PM till 11:00 PM (I'm assuming this is NOT including the customary one hour delay normally given to primetime). They had a late newscast at 11:00 PM followed by a rejoining of RNYE afterwards (Which I assume WAS delayed)

What's also strange is that CBS didn't have a New Years Eve special unlike years past although NBC did (SNL was delayed by the special)

Weird.....

Cheers & 73 :)

Not as long as Dick Clark is breathing. Seacrest carries Clark's piss bucket. That's the only reason he's around. As long as Clark is able to make it to the studio, that's all Seacrest is gonna do. Funny thing is, I would have thought that Seacrest's 15 minutes were up years ago, yet people still believe he has talent.

Why you gotta be so mean?

First of all, Dick Clark is a legend. He can do what he wants. He chooses to do this every year. It's the one and only public appearance he makes. For his fans, it's the one thing they can count on.

Regarding his speech, it's not going to get better. Have you seen Kirk Douglas lately? He had his stroke a long time ago and he still slurs his speech. It doesn't get much better. Dick has gotten better every year, and it gives him a goal to shoot for. Very important for recovering stroke victims.

As for Ryan Seacrest, he does this show because he loves Dick. I really believe that. He could easily host a competing show on Fox. This year, Fox did a terribly produced NYE show from Las Vegas with a cut-in from Times Square that, for some unknown reason, kept showing Cee Lo Green, who was actually part of NBC's NYE show.

While I'm on the subject, why did ABC continue to interview fans who were anxious to see Drake, who was on the NBC show? Here's some advice to dcp's production crew: Pre-interview the fans. If they're going to promote your competition, move to another section of the Square. There were a million people there. That's my one pet peave about DCRNYE.

Those of us in the time zones other than eastern have long grown accustomed to the networks catering to the east coast. (As a side note, I actually enjoy that practice, because they DON'T typically delay programming for those of us on central time.) So it would be no big deal to me if the networks showed the ball drop at 11:00 p.m. my time. It is actually an insult to my intelligence to delay the coverage for my time zone. (And if you delay it, then you must time it so that the coverage of the ball drop occurs EXACTLY at midnight my time.) I would rather see local coverage anyway, but no one bothered to provide that this year.

I agree about pre-interviewing people. New Year's Eve should be an upbeat, festive time. But some girl who was interviewed on one of the channels a couple of years ago provided a BIG downer to the coverage by whining about Michael Jackson dying that year. Never mind that it had been six months, so she should have been over it by then! ::)

Rant time:

Enough said. New Years Rockin' eve is Dick Clark. As long as he continues, I will continue to watch and so will millions of others.

Have you seen Kirk Douglas lately?

I watched him on some awards show about 6 months ago, and he stole the show. He was funny. Not like the presenters who read off cue cards on most award shows, who are not funny.

So I say... a toast to Mr. Clark. If you feel uncomfortable about watching the show, you can always watch Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper on CNN, or FOX, NBC etc. You have choices.

Interesting comments, both for and against Dick Clark continuing. Out of the blue (I'm in good health), I had a stroke about 3 years ago - it didn't affect my speech at all, and I was up and OK physically about 2 days later, but I did have had some residual effect, unnoticed to anybody but myself.

I guess my point is, strokes are a crap-shoot - it can affect different parts of the brain. So don't confuse Dick Clark's slurred speech with a lack of intelligence - it seems like he is as smart as ever.

I recall that Kirk Douglas had a stroke in 1996, at age 80. It affected his speech, but not his intelligence. When he appeared publicly and spoke, there were mixed reviews - some said he was brave to appear, but others said he was an embarrassment, and should quietly disappear.

I should add that Kirk Douglas is still alive today, at age 95.

So I ask the people that want Dick Clark to go away - does it really make you uncomfortable that he slurs his speech in a couple of short appearances on the show he produces?

I too was one that was on the band wagon for Dick Clark to retire from the show. But after reading these posts, I now believe, this once a year show may be the sole reason Dick Clark is alive. It gives him satisfaction and a goal to continue with his rehabilitation. So, I for one, can put up with a few minutes of Dick Clark doing his show. If that is something that makes him happy and keeps him alive, so be it. Ryan Seacrest will get his own spot before we know it. Patience.

I don't know that New Year's Eve is all Dick Clark lives for - Like I said, the stroke didn't affect his intelligence, and Dick Clark Productions continues to producing programming - though to what extent Dick himself is involved in the business, I don't know.

As for Seacrest, he get's most of the airtime, so I doubt he's crying about it. He has so many irons in the fire, I doubt it matters to him if it's another few years until his name is in the title of the show.

IN Chicago, WLS-TV has it live from 10:35 - 11:08, then switches to the local New Years countdown they host themselves. Sometime after midnight, WLS-TV then goes back to airing Rockin' New Years, though on tape delay.

Why don't they just add the Chicago countdown to the national show?

I agree. Central time gets shorted by the national New Year's Eve shows. At least in Alabama you could watch the Moon Pie Drop from Mobile.

No, that is something Raycom pipes into all its stations that serve the Central Time Zone, and that is nothing to cheer over considering it's in Mobile rather than Birmingham, which is an insult to the latter.

There's no question Ryan cares about Dick.

I saw Kirk Douglas in a movie made after his stroke. After a while his speech problems didn't bother me that much. I can't remember whether he was as bad off as Dick but their way of speaking is similar. I liked how Kirk chastized Michael on one of the awards shows for something like not speaking clearly. The audience like that.

Dick Clark had on more makeup than Tammy Faye tonight. There comes a time when it's
best to just pause and let go.
Oh, is that how it is?

Last night on "Desperate Housewives" former Miss America Vanessa Williams still looked attractive, but she put on makeup for a funeral and she looked HIDEOUS! A comparison to Tammy Faye would be appropriate.

I just hate to dredge up a semi-old thread (ok, no I don't) but a couple of days ago I saw an ABC promo for this year's show.

It will NOT be Ryan Seacrest's New Year's Rockin' Eve. It's still Dick Clark's show even though he's gone.

Checking ABC's website, it's all Dick Clark, all the time, on New Year's Eve.

At 8pm, ABC has 'New Year's Rockin' Eve celebrates Dick Clark' with your hosts, Fergie and Jenny McCarthy. (No Ryan Seacrest apparently.)

At 10pm, it's 'Dick Clark's Primetime New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2013'.

And, finally, at 11:30pm, it's 'Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2013'.

And Dick might be going up against himself because it's either New Year's Eve or New Year's Day (prob NY Day) that Game Show Network is doing a tribute to Dick with a Pyramid Marathon.

Speaking of GSN marathons, watched GSN's Match Game Christmas Marathon today. Pretty awesome.

The show is owned by Dick Clark Productions. Even though the company has been sold, that's the logo you'll see at the end.

There was a newer thread you could have used, but anyway ...

I tape the show that precedes the big show. I'll watch what's good. That won't be the music.

At 11:30 it's Carson Daly. During what passes for music there, I'll switch over to this hoping for something other than their version of "music".

I want Guy Lombardo!

I know but I have a habit of being involved in threads that drag on for years and years so I couldn't resist bringing this one back ;D
