NFL Playoffs on Philly Radio

My 2 cents...I work as a professional driver, I work every Saturday and Sunday. I am the perfect target audience for the national/WW1 feed of the games!

Unfortunately, there's not enough people in your situation for terrestrial radio.

So Westwood One is just wasting its time and money producing these broadcasts and getting them cleared on terrestrial radio in lots of places that aren't Philadelphia? How curious.

In some markets, generally smaller markets, stations can sell the game broadcasts.
Westwood One does not need to clear the games every place to show a profit.
But stations in Philadelphia, and in most large markets, have pretty much found it does not make good business sense to carry the game broadcasts.
It all depends on what the station can sell to advertisers.

I would think the key variable is what other live, local sports are on at the time. I didn't check, but I'd guess that WFAN / 660 / NYC carried the playoffs last weekend since no local teams were involved; that might not have been the case had the Giants or Jets still been alive.

NY stations also have the Nets, Knicks, Rangers, Islanders, and Devils to broadcast this time of the year, and there are contractual obligations to consider.

"Fred" is right, though...no matter what any of us wish for, it's all about the incremental advertising revenue vs. the cost of the programming.

AFC and NFC championship games on Philadelphia Radio

WPEN will air the AFC game Sunday but don't know about the NFC championship game. I hope that this game gets aried on local radio, not on 920 AM. These Philly stations should know that 920 AM is not an option for moving national and local play by play to that station because of its signal. If this NFC title game don't get aired on Philly radio then something is really wrong with this radio market. I'm asking 560 AM 990 AM, 1210 AM or 94.1 FM to broadcast the NFC game. I don't know about WIP because they have a sixers game Sunday at 6 PM EST.

[EDIT]

the NFL is on radio not really that important....especially out of market games and when the PLAYOFFS ARE ON BROADCAST TV....

[EDIT]
I'm very passionate about local radio here and I want it to get better because it is bad right now to me. Its not all about me, its about radio. Enough about me. I'm so sick of people saying that I WANT THIS AND I WANT THAT. The Bashing stops now. If you don't like my posts, fine but don't bash me about it.

And how do you propose fixing local radio - by instilling national radio broadcasts. Great thinking.

"I'm very passionate about local radio here" - kinda reminds me of that Carlin joke - "Welcome to O'Hare Intl. Airport, where the local time -- of course, it's the local time; what were you expecting, the time in Pago Pago?"

WIP 610 AM will carry the NFC game but.........

WIP 610 AM has the Sixers game on Sunday at 6 PM so they may cut the rest of the NFC game off if it goes on past 6 PM. WIP should just move the sixers game to WPHT 1210 AM to prevent any problems.

WIP will broadcast the NFC game in its entirety

610 WIP's broadcast of the Sixers vs. Spurs game on Sunday will begin immediately upon completion of the NFC Championship Game.
