Charlotte has had two dance heavy stations,,, 95.1 when they went from 95 Double Q to 95.1 the Edge was a CHR with a Dance-Alternative lean for about a year, then went full blown Alternative before eventually skewing back to CHR and renaming it Kiss 95.1.... most of you dont remember, but Charlotte's 101.9 which is urban AC, used to be Rhythmic dance as Kiss 102,,, very dance heavy... Also, 93.3 WBBO,, Power 93.3 Licensed to the Greenville Spartanburg area was dance from 91-93.....
Charlotte isnt as far fetched as one may think. Even Knoxville Tennessee,,, The country Music Smokie Mountain belt has a Huge Drum N Bass scene... probably the biggest in the U.S,,, and from 1988-1993 WOKI then I-100 on 100.3 was very dance friendly,,, but also Rock friendly.
Louisville Kentucky used to have a dance friendly WDJX 99.7,,, the dance is all but gone, but the station still exists as a mainstream CHR,,,, Chris Shebal one of the founders of Chicago's Energy 927&5 used to program it.
Even Terre haute Indiana, Gran Rapids Michigan, and even Fort Wayne IND of all places once had not one, but 2 dance stations, Energy 102.9 and Hot 102.3,,, Energy was pure Dance, and Hot was like the B-96 Chicago sound with Rhythmic POP, Hip Hop and POP-Dance Remixes-house-Euro,,, called Fort Waynes Dance Beat... Yet Fort Wayne hasnt seen a true CHR since Wmee 97.3 went AC in 1994.
