Nicole Sandler Goes Nuts At Town Hall

gordonlee said:
I was going to say something, but this isn't a political forum, so I'll leave it at that. ;)

I'll say something...

Nicole was among several who were singled out because they dare question their congressional representative. She spoke about the incident on The Jorge Rodriguez Show and The Randi Rhodes Show. She will go into detail on her own show tomorrow (Thursday April 27).

Interrupting others... including the Representative's opening remarks, is not "speaking out." It is just rude. town Halls have a format, announced beforehand. You follow the rules, or you leave, one way or another.

It's no different than talking loud during a movie... it is a lack of respect for others, generally born of a belief that your opinion is more deserving of attention than that of the person who has the floor.

That's not a political issue or matter... it is one of basic decency and civility.

Yep, quite an unprofessional way to "Dare to Question.". I saw the video and it makes them look foolish.

Very childish reaction and doesn't further anyones "Cause" acting that way.

Someone just told me of this thread, so I registered here to respond. Mr. Eduardo, you might want to check the facts before you slander me again. I did not interrupt anyone, and I wasn't among the people who interrupted West's "opening remarks."

The story linked in the opening of this thread is from the "Daily Caller" -- a very right wing blog. The video that's been going around was edited (a la Breitbart & O'Keefe), to make it seem that I was just shouting out nonsense.

I went to something billed as a "Town Hall Meeting" with MY congressman. I've already heard his talking points. As a constituent, I wanted him to hear what I had to say - standard operating procedure at a town hall meeting.

If you want to see what I was responding to, check out this video, that I shot.

http://youtu.be/Dq8BEzknL3k

It shows his entire non-answer to a question about the future of medicare, and my response -- a follow-up question. I raised my hand, but even though I was sitting in the 2nd row directly in front of him, West didn't acknowledge me.

So I shouted out my question. I seriously wanted an answer.

It's my right as a citizen and a constituent.

You can go to my blog at www.radioornot.com and watch the rest of the UNEDITED videos from the event, in which people who were in agreement with Allen West were freely allowed to shout out their support, but anyone who dared to voice a different opinion was either threatened with being taken out (as I was after Mrs. West tried to take my video camera from me (yes, that's on one of the video's too), or just kicked out.

So no, I did not "go nuts" and, unfortunately, it wasn't a Town Hall. It was a lecture. If I had known that would be the case, I wouldn't have gone.

After viewing the Nicole Sandler You tube video that she herself posted, I'll have to agree with Dave Eduardo's position that Nicole Sandler is in fact "Rude" and "Obnoxious". Perhaps Nicole should find another line of work because this sort of work doesn't seem to agree with her.

Nicole's behavior on her You Tube video was nothing short of bazaar and down right childish, and as far as Mr. Eduardo slandering Nicole Sandler, as usual he was right on point, in short she's nothing more then a "Loud Mouth" trying to make a splash in the radio or TV broadcast business, and as most of us in the radio or TV business former, or present day, would agree, as the Nicole Sandler video clearly point's out, she lacks any serious ability to perform in a present day radio or TV broadcast forum, and mind you, Nicole is NOT somebody I would consider hiring at anyone of my radio stations with the fear that every time Nicole open's a microphone she'd be getting us in trouble with her mouth, at which point we'd have to call the retainer lawyer's to bail us out of the problem her mouth got us into, and those my friends, are the fact!

However, you do NOT have the right to disrupt a meeting.

There was an orderly process for those present to ask questions. You apparently felt that process did not apply to you. Your hubris / arrogance just made you look like an ass.

My compliments to Nicole Sandler for coming here to answer her attackers.

Clearly if you look back at last year's and '09's video of tea party types at town hall meetings, this is a case of "sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander" or "you can dish it out but you can't take it." Kudos to Nicole for showing up the hypocrisy.

In a historically liberal town with historically liberal talk radio, Nicole Sandler showed up conservative radio and got punished for it. She showed up the hypocrisy of a conservative congressman and got hauled off to jail. Truly for her, no good deed goes unpunished. Meanwhile, conservative talk radio continues to sputter and falter in what is clearly its most unfriendly market in America.

Talk radio hosts are not supposed to be rude and obnoxious? Really? ???

Are you insinuating that Nicole Sandler wears braces? ::) A little dental humor never hurt anyone...

But seriously: Nicole, thanks for signing up to clear things up and give your side of the story. And I apologize if you say that I've taken anything out of context, i.e. the title of this thread. But it was worded so, simply because it was the impression that I got. With no disrespect unto yourself, of course. ;)

And so Nicole Sandler is allowed to bypass the line and just shout her questions and the rest of us can't?

Imagine if even a dozen people at that meeting (on either side of the political spectrum) behaved as she did. It would have quickly shut down the meeting, and I'm sure that wasn't her intention. ;)

Nicole Sandler, since you are reading this forum now, you behaved inappropriately.

P.S. Who IS Nicole Sandler? I've never even heard of you prior to this incident.

P.P.S. I just did a little reading up on you Nicole. How ever did you tolerate working with Bob Grant? Or were you a conservative back in those days. ;D

There was NO LINE! No one was allowed to ask questions. You had to write them on a card. West's staff chose the questions and read them. People who agreed with West shouted out their support with no consequences. But if anyone dared to say anything in opposition, they were escorted out.

I raised my hand (from the second row, where he certainly saw me), but he chose not to acknowledge that I had a follow-up question. So, yes, I shouted out a legitimate question.

If this were billed as a lecture, I wouldn't have gone. Since they called it a Town Hall Meeting, I believed that the congressman actually wanted to hear from his constituents as well.

Thank you Smedge for coming to my defense.

And no, I was never a Republican. But I am a professional, and paid my dues working with Grant.

As a "professional" you should know that slander has a very different definition for public figures.

And the facts are simple: the Town Hall had rules that are common to many if not most town hall meetings: opening remarks, and questions from those present that have been submitted previously.

I did not interrupt anyone, and I wasn't among the people who interrupted West's "opening remarks."

If you shouted from the floor and the rules were to submit questions beforehand, you interrupted. And you violated the rules of the meeting.

I went to something billed as a "Town Hall Meeting" with MY congressman. I've already heard his talking points. As a constituent, I wanted him to hear what I had to say - standard operating procedure at a town hall meeting.

Then why did you not submit your question in advance?

Most of us understand that there will be more questions than time, and many questions will not be relevant to the work of a Representative. Having questions presented in advance avoids the mob behaviour that many people all talking at once can present.

A major purpose of a town hall is to allow an official to communicate to the constituents what they are doing. There is not necessarily a requirement for an open forum, and I'd respond this way were it Al Franken or Ron Paul holding the meeting.

So no, I did not "go nuts" and, unfortunately, it wasn't a Town Hall. It was a lecture. If I had known that would be the case, I wouldn't have gone.

Instead, you might check the preestablished rules beforehand. That would prevent disappointment.

So everyone who submitted a question - and their question wasn't addressed - has the right to start shouting their question(s) during the meeting?

I can't believe it's come to this.... a woman of your age not knowing how to behave civilly in public.

Do you live in a condo? I'd hate to see you at a condo board meeting.

Gordonlee your 100% absolutely correct, but really enough said about what's-her-name, and smedge2006 said something about what's-her-name being a radio talk show host, or something or other, is that what she is, really?

Could have fooled me and for that fact, a lot of us!

Now I know why I don't participate it this nonsense. None of you want to hear what happened, you just want to label me. If you want to see/hear what really happened, visit my blog. If not, keep believing what every you want to believe. I'm done here.

Indignation, yes.

Righteous indignation, not so likely.
